A loss had not deterred Zuka. In fact, it had driven him even more. From the battle he had, he knew the lions of the Firekin were well trained, and that was what he wanted, to be trained by the best. He had gotten close to winning too, he was sure of it, but his lack of fighting experience let him down, and let the other have victory.

He'd spent the next few days nearby, resting, regaining his strength, physically and mentally, to fight again.

Now he was ready, waiting to see who would approach this time.

This was not at all where Geni wanted to be. Even if it was home. With the pride agreeing that bright yellow pelts were no shame at all, the one place the bright red lioness wished to be was next to her sister, Erle. Erle could finally return, and hold a rank other than Huria with her yellow fur and black markings. That was, above all else, what Geni desired.

Instead the return Water-Seeker found herself confronting a fireless male looking both determined and hopeful. Ugh. A challenge. Not at all what she'd wanted today, but it would reflect poorly on her to let this male go by and hope someone else would take care of him.

"A Duel, huh?" she asked aloud. "You've got some nerve, fireless one."

Zuka watched as the red lioness approached. She was more what he had expected from the lions of the desert than the white furred, yellow maned lion previously. She did not look to pleased to be accepting his challenge. Perhaps she was of the opinion that outsiders should stay outside. Not that it mattered. Zuka knew he was able to join if he won a duel, and that was what he came here to do.

"My fire is on the inside," he replied, his voice calm.

He stood on all fours, preparing himself for the fight ahead.

"Shall we start?" he asked. He did not want to strike an opponent unprepared.

Well, it was a proper response, sure enough. At least he had some wit and some manners. Not that Geni cared. The red lioness was often called rude, for her in sorrow at her sister's absence, she could be brusque and cruel with words and actions.

Hence she saw no need to dally any further with this stranger.

"Sure," she replied, and immediately charged headlong towards him.

He would show her that he indeed had the fire. It did concern previously that he had no red on him. He was white and grey, but his worries had been quelled when he fought the other white lion. He had no red either, and yet he was here in the pride. He would show her that he could belong here, just as if he was born here.

Her charge came soon after her response. She was not messing around. Zuka was prepared though, already putting into practice some of the moves he'd learned from his past fight.

As she charged he waited until the last possible moment before stepping to the side, avoiding her collision. She was now in the perfect position for his counter.

Zuka lashed out, as she missed her attack, hoping to knock her over.

The blow fell, but not solidly, and Geni stood her ground against her opponent. Sure, it was easy enough to evade a charge - she'd clearly broadcast her intent.

But now he'd left himself open and she was at his flank. The lioness took a swipe at the long spread of the lion's side, clearly intending to get a bit of her own pride back.

Zuka was trying not to expel as much energy as he had in his previous fight. He wanted to make each move count, make sure everything was well thought out. He did not want to make a mistake this time.

His calculating left him open however, and he soon felt a strong paw connecting with his side. The blow shook him, he would have to be more aware, and knocked him back. He winced, he would remember that one for a few days.

He charged forward to batter her, hoping that he was close enough that she would not react like he did at the beginning.

Charging headlong was a simple enough move to read. And yes, Geni thought about sidestepping her opponent the way he had done to her earlier. But that would be stupid and, more importantly, repetitive. Winning a fight was about more than knowing a single attack.

The red lioness stood firm, braced against the white male's charge, taking the full hit in the knowledge that it would bring him into her range with no escape.

Once he had come, Geni rammed her skull into her opponent's. That would teach him a lesson!

Ouch. That one hurt. Zuka leaped back away from the lioness. He hadn't expected her to take the hit, and then be able to retaliate. He had a lot to learn.

Zuka paused, using this moment to take a breath, to regain some strength. He didn't want to lose again.

He waited for her to make the next move, biding his time to use it wisely.

The lioness smiled inwardly, refusing to let her challenger see how much the headbutt hurt her. It wasn't the most pleasant thing to do by a long shot, but the effect seemed well worth it as the white male backed off for the moment. That meant the initiative was in her hands now.

However, Geni was more interested in seeing the lion's reaction than in beating him into a pulp, so she circled, refusing to stay in the same spot she'd occupied before.

She was tough. Zuka wasn't sure what to do next. She was watching him. It was no in his hands to make the next move. But what to do? Last time he had hit her and hit her well, and she'd taken it, almost invited it in, just so she could get a blow in return. He shook his mane. Was she trying to psyche him out? If she was, it was working a little.

Still, he was here to win and to become a member of the Firekin and to learn all he could about healing. He would not lose sight of that goal.

He charged at her again, and as he approached he reared and pulled back a paw in an attempt to knock her shoulder.

Again, Geni let the blow land. While he was touching her, the challenger was in easy range of anything she cared to unleash upon him. Besides, her shoulders were strong and she was sure the blow was nothing vital.

The Water-Seeker opted to go slightly more violent than she'd been thus far today. She angled her head and opened her jaws to bite down on the offending foreleg that held a paw on her shoulder. She would savor the taste of his fur...and blood.

Zuka wasn't sure what to make of this lioness. She was just letting him hit her. Were there others like this? He was sure the while lion he fought before had never intentionally let him hit him. But she was. She didn't even move.

He was sure his attack would have connected hard, and it did. But he wasn't expecting her to turn around and clamp down on his paw. Her teeth were sharp and he didn't want to let her leave any permanent marks. He shook his forearm loose from her grip and stepped backwards. Eyeing her off once more.

Zuka watched her closely, his icey blue eyes hoping to anticipate whatever was coming next.

When the stranger shook his leg, she let go obediently. He stood apart, watching her. His pale eyes looked uncertain, possibly nervous, potentially afraid. Geni offered him a smile that was as red as her fur.

"Good," she told him. "You're right, there is fire in your soul. The Motoujamii-Simo welcomes you."

Without further ado, the Water-Seeker continued her interrupted journey back home. If the white male followed fine. If not, well, no loss.

It... was over? Zuka felt that there was no clear winner, both had gotten in some good hits, it seemed like an even match.

He felt a wave of relief and pride wash over him at her words. He'd proved his worth. He proved he had the fire.

"Thank you," he said, offering a small smile in return. He followed obediently behind, eager to start his new journey.
