In the Garden of Monsters

Watching the man leave, Argyle would make a mental note to never drink the water in Sinnoh. Assuming it wasn't the air or the food. You know what, better to just pack his own food and bring a germ mask to be on the safe side.

Once he was certain the man was gone, the young Butler would go about the task of trying to find the back door. There had to be one around here somewhere. Fire regulations and all.

Starter Pokemon: Croagunk [M]
Name & Level: Jekyll, Lv 10
[Temperament] Naughty
Bio:The story of how Argyle met Jekyll is a bit of an odd one. After purchasing a bulk shipment of skin rejuvenating mud from Sinnoh's Great Marsh (Guarnteed to take twenty years off your appearance!), Mistress Rosevelt had set aside some time for a fully immersive experience with the product, during which she received quite the surprise. It would seem the mud had come with stowaway in the form of an egg. Unfortunately it was about this same time the egg decided to hatch, splattering the aristocratic woman with muck and eggshell. After a shriek and shrill cry for the nearest Argyle to attend her, Verde arrived and was immediately ordered to dispose of the creature, although not before cleaning up the mess it had created. Whispering a snide remark just below his breath, both Mistress and Argyle were in for a surprise when the newly born Croagunk began to snicker devilishly. It seemed the Poison-type had heard the boy, and shared his sense of humor. Amused by this fact the young Butler then went about the task of convincing Mistress Rosevelt that the Croagunk would be quite useful in his regular duties, allowing him to make the manor to "shine as radiantly as you do Mistress Rosevelt". Little more in the way of convincing was required on the boy's part, and so he obtained his first and for the time being only Pokemon.

Since then Jekyll has proven a good match for Argyle, frequently snickering at the boy's comments be they made aloud, or simply implied. Unlike Argyle however Jekyll does nothing to hide his wicked nature, frequently mocking others quite openly and then laughing about it. Though cruel he is not crude, and more than willingly to amuse himself by catching the enemy off guard.

Immediately seeing the advantages of owning a Ghost-type, the youth would go about putting on a comedy routine. Relying on an old act performed for his mistress's pets, and the hope that Jekyll would do his part, the pair sent the Gastly bowling over with laughter. Argyle would find the backdoor... or what was left of it. It seemed the good captain had little patience for barricades, and the thing had been smahsed of its hinges. The poor owner was in for another money loss. But at least the young student had finally made it out of the store!... the the other side of town, a ways away from his next destination. He'd have to spend a bit more time on the streets getting to the store.

For a moment Argyle would actually look at the debris which had once been a door. He considered sifting through it. A large plank of wood or a good doorknob could come in handy for striking people with as needed; however he'd eventually side it wasn't worth the risk of splinters.

Stepping out once more into the light of sun and streets, the boy would turn his attention to his secondary goal. He still had something else to collect after all. It would seem his detour to the back of the store would make it a bit of a walk.

Deciding he didn't feel like getting mugged in these mean streets, the boy would release Jekyll onto his shoulder.

">Was the sun always that bright?<" The Poison-type croaked, shielding his eyes from the fiery orb in the sky. Apparently his eyes had adjusted to the darkness of the back room.

In truth Argyle was walking with his eyes closed. He'd need a minute before he could see properly. Red eyes and all.

Scanning his surroundings carefully, one hand on the bag at his belt, Argyle would do his best to weave through the streets. He'd avoid crowd wherever possible, and cross the street when necessary. He was no stranger to city streets after all. The Mistress liked to travel occasionally in order to show off. Not all her travel destinations were well thought out however.

Jekyll for his part would watch Argyle's back, though occasionally he'd sit on the boy's head in order to run a slime coated hand down the back of someone's neck. OH THE LOOKS ON THEIR FACES!

A cute little pigtailed girl skipped pass Argyle, eagerly licking an ice cream cone. if Argyle happened to be looking closely, he'd see that the girl was ACTUALLY consuming a poor Vanillite. it whimpered as the horrible child-shaped masticated dug into the icy flesh. Unless Argyle felt like saving him, the Vanillite was pretty doomed. Another young life lost of the mean streets of Ostglass, simply another morsel between the jaws of life.

The reaction the Vanillite would receive from Argyle was likely something that Pokemon of it's type would be used to, a cold one. The bow didn't arch a brow at the sight, he barely batted an eye. Though a mere servant he'd spent his time among high-society, witnessing and listening to tales of their many 'exotic delicacies'. Why in certain areas of Johto there were those who ate the raw brain of a live Aipom, screeching and flailing in agony beneath the table.

Such things were illegal of course, but the boy had a feeling 'legality' didn't come up much in the day to day of this particular city.

So it was the youth would turn his back on the sight, neither rushing to the rescue of the Ice-type, nor attempting to end it's misery. He had business to attend to, and he didn't have time to play 'knight', be that in shinning armor or cloak of dark.

Jekyll as per his usual inclination would find his mind wandering off into far more unusual pastures. Strange one might even call it. After all, how many licks DID it take to get to the center of a Vanillite?

Making his way down the street and closer to his ultimate destination, Argyle's mind was already long since away from the subject of the Vanillite. After all he himself enjoyed some nicely seared fillet O'Magikarp now and then.

Jekyll on the other-hand was questioning to himself was questioning whether Vanillite was actually Vanilla flavored, or if that was some sort of marketing gimmick.

A tiny figure arced through the air, a falling star composed of violet fur and moxie. It'd lept off the roof, for some unknowable reason. The figure landed gracefully before Argyle, revealling itself to be a Purrloin... and a rather dramatic one at that, given the way he spun in a circle, lashing out his tail. He'd somehow fashioned a little cape out of a trashbag and a domino mask out of a paper bag and markers. Well, he might have been living on the street out of trash cans, but that didn't mean he needed to be boring! He struck a pose, one paw outstretched to the street as the other pointed almost accusingly at Argyle. The cocky Dark-Type fixed the boy with a grin. >Hand over your heart to the Joker Phantom!< He paused for a moment, shifting his weight backwards and eyeing the human's attire thoughtfully. >Or your valuables and gold, that'll work. < It seemed Argyle was being mugged! By the tiniest thief!

Argyle would look at the Purrloin with a critical eye. Of course not used to life in this particular city, nor capable of understanding the feline's 'your gil or your life' speech, the boy was operating under the assumption this was some sort of street performance. He expected the cat would hold out a little tin cup for loose change any moment. Perhaps do a little dance or attempt to 'sing' while standing on someone's back fence. That old routine.

Jekyll on the otherhand, as always, had other plans. Donning a paper boat hat, a mustache made out of a rotting banana peel, and raising a cracked magnifying class of dubious origin to his eye, the amphibian would declare ">So we meet at last Joker!<"

Lowering his magnifying glass, the Croagunk would stand up as he began his tirade ">Every Case! Every clue! Every sleepless night has lead to this moment!<" Sweeping his arm the Fighting-type would point at his Dark foe with the magnifying glass ">The Purrloin is out of the sack, and you won't be getting back into it<" He declared, eyes glinting sharply ">We've got you now, and you won't be getting away this time!<"

A croaking snicker filtered through the frogs teeth as his mouth split into a mischievous grin ">You can't see it, but we've got you surrounded<" He jeered, plopping back into his usual seated position on Argyle's shoulder ">You can't escape, and I dare you to even try!<"

Was this a devious plan on the part of the Croagunk, or just another sign of his growing mental instability? Either way it was a gamble. The question was...would the Purrloin take the bait?

The Purrloin watched the bizarre Coragunk's little performance, grin never leaving his soft, fluffy face. >Another fan, I see~< he drawled, striking another pose. This... probably wouldn't help Argyle's perception of him as an insane street performer... and well, he was at two-thirds right. >And I'm surrounded? My, but you do want to see something spectacular! Perhaps your heart is worth keeping around... I'm still totally selling your gold, though.< My, this was more interesting that the usual rando he mugged on the street! Perhaps it WAS some foreign detective... or a madman. Either way!

But now was the time for EVEN MORE DRAMATIC PROCLAMATIONS! >What you don't know, Inspector Froggie-gata, is that I have you right where I want you! And your plucky girl Friday!< Here he'd point right at Argyle... well, the youth was pretty androgynous. >Right here and now! This is how the Joker Phantom makes his grandest theft! YOUR LIFE! Unless you feel you can catch me before I catch you~< With a whistle, he bounced into the air, spinning in a strange dodge.

As per the usual formula of these events, Argyle had no idea what was going on as the two Pokemon exchanged words. What was hard to miss however was the Purrloin's change into a more aggressive posture. Well...at least when he stood still....a dodge perhaps? He supposed this wasn't a street performance after all....though you certainly could have fooled him or the average passerby with these getups.

Jekyll meanwhile gave a ribbiting snicker as cat kicked off this confrontation in true ">Get yer eyes checked. Dr Wattsocks is a more distinguished young lad, and you won't escape the keen eyes of Shercroakholmes!<" The Fighting-type would cry as he leaped into the air. Shame he didn't actually know any Fighting-type moves.

Aiming himself like a living torpedo, it was unmistakable the Croakgunk was aiming to land a Headbutt, but as he flew through the air he would toss his banana peel face accessory onto the ground below. An insurance policy. If he missed, this cat still wasn't landing on his feet!

The Purrloin's graceful arc only just barely pulled him out of Jekyll's path. He'd fall to the ground, and coincidentally landed with one paw RIGHT on the banana peel... someone had great comedic timing. He'd slip and go flying back into the air once more. One backflip!... Two backflips!... Thr-- no, wait, two and a half... for the Purrling would hand hard on his face as he came back to earth again.

For a moment, he'd just like thre. Had he knocked himself out? Was this battle over before it had begun? The little cat burglar's head snapped up, so no. >A brute! Brutality, I say! how could you possibly want to harm such a lovely face?~< He'd flutter his eyelashes at the Croagunk, catching the lighting his warm green pools. Staring directly at Jekyll, it because clear what he was trying to do... Charm the frog into submission!

Watching the 'performance' playing out before him, Argyle would deliver a slow clap as the Purrloin landed on it's face. Smacking so perfectly into the asphalt took real skill. Truly.

">What you call brutality I call a sharp wit kiddo! Now let's get this show on the road!<" Tilting his paper hat forward, the Croagunk would stalk forward like a detective from the 50's. ">Just call me Croak Tracy~<" The next instant he was off like a s**t, the middle finger of his hand turning a bright purple as his limbs snaked forward. He was countering with a Poison Sting! Seemed rather than him being green with envy, he planned to make the Purrloin purple!...well....purple-r.

(22-11)+(19-3) = 27 DMG! Purrloin is at -7 HP

>... I always get my maaaaaaaaa--< A showman to the end, the Purrloin would watch helpless as the Poison Sting flew right at him, piercing him between the eyes. The dart dug right into his head, barely stopping front his brain. Indeed, the little Joker would live to dance and steal again... but perhaps he'd be more cautious in the future.

Either way, Argyle and the greatest detective in the Ostglass streets were free to go.

Jekyll gains 49 EXP!

In the Garden of Monsters

Unconcerned with the state of the Feline, Argyle would merely turn from the scene and depart.

Jekyll would leap onto the boy's shoulder, tossing his hat at the cat and proclaiming ">Here's lookin' at you kid!<" He didn't even know where that was from.
