Du eventually fell asleep despite the thoughts on her mind and awoke only when the sun graced her eyes and made it impossible to sleep. Du forced her eyes open to see a huge pair of pink eyes gleaming in her direction as Niamh waited for her to get up so they could start their journey. Du squinted her eye against the sun and lowered her head onto the pillow of the sleeping bag again. ”Ready to go, partner?” Du could hear Niamh’s tail thumping heavily against the sleeping bag in response. ”Alright, let’s get ready.” Du was still groggy, her voice deep from sleep as she lazily pushed herself out of the sleeping bag and started to make breakfast - combing her hair while she was waiting for her breakfast to cook. It was going to be an interesting day, or at the very least, hopefully a good one. Whenever Du started to nod off once more, she felt Niamh push up against her in order to wake up her human so that they could hurry up and get moving! She wanted to go and move on from this place already so that she could see more of the world and make new friends.

After Du was fed and had groomed both herself and her pokemon friends, she gathered up her camping stuff and headed upon her way into the tall grass once again. She looked around with Niamh by her side, using her nose to help find the scents of nearby pokemon. Du had to admit that pushing grass aside all day and constantly looking for pokemon was getting kind of… boring. She wanted to raise her pokemon but this just seemed like it was taking forever, she was trying to mentally brace herself though, she heard that there were places in the region that pokemon hid extremely well. The thought was a bit of a bother to her but she was determined to keep at it and hold herself true to her goals. There were no shortcuts to becoming a trainer after all. This was the best way for her to go about things. Still, she really did wish that there was something that she could do to distract herself from the teeth grinding monotony of what she was doing.

Exiting the Lab, Rina noticed that Vaniville Town seemed to have a totally different feel than when she came here before.'It must be because I'm a Pokemon Trainer now,'she thought, grinning for what seemed like the hundredth time today. Yep, she was a Trainer! And that meant she was responsible for taking care of her Fennekin, and helping it to grow."I wonder if it needs to spend lots of time outside of its Pokeball?"she wondered out loud, holding the shiny red ball up to her face as if she could see her Fennekin sleeping inside of it.
Deciding that it was probably a good idea (and because she wanted to pet it), Rina pressed the white button again, releasing her little fox friend in a beam of light."Fen-Fennekin!"it cried happily, wagging its bushy tail and rubbing its body on Rina's legs. Laughing, Rina knelt down and petted its soft ears gently."That's better, isn't it?"she said, happy that Fennekin seemed so pleased with being her partner.

When Rina opened her arms, the little fox hopped up into them to her great surprise. Giggling, she gave Fennekin a soft kiss on the cheek."Good girl, Fennekin! You can stay up here for a little while~"Standing up, she looked around Vaniville. It was a small town, but pretty, and the air was clean and fresh - just like her hometown of Santalune. In fact, she had never remembered coming here before today. The forest was dangerous to walk through, unless you had a Pokemon partner.
"It's a kind of cute place, isn't it?"she asked Fennekin, whose ears twitched to listen to the songs of some Fletchling passing by."Fen!"she agreed, bouncing up higher to sit on Rina's head, her bushy tail wagging as she watched after the birds."Do you want to chase them?"Rina asked with a laugh."No, they're trying to go somehwere.. Maybe if we find a flock on the road,"she said as a compromise, mischief sparkling in her eyes.'Maybe I shouldn't encourage bad habits,'she thought, frowning a second later. This Trainer business was hard!

Well, Vaniville Town was pretty small, and there wasn't much to see."Let's make our way back to Aquacorde,"she told her Fennekin, who perched happily up on her shoulder while Rina walked toward the gate and the short path. She'd had an escort the last time who would protect her from wild Pokemon... but now she would have to take care of them herself. She paused at the start of the trail out of town, clutching her bag and gulping slightly.
As if sensing her tension, Fennekin reached down and licked her cheek. Startled, Rina turned her head to look at Fennekin, blinking slowly while their eyes exchanged an unspoken message.'We can do this.'With new confidence, Rina grinned and marched along the path, holding her Fennekin close. With Pokemon at her side, maybe she really could do it!

Little did Rina know that she was about to get the chance to test her courage! She and Fennekin were about half-way down the trail to Aquacorde Town, when the bushes on the side of the road started to rustle. Rina froze, her eyes pinging towards the movement and watching anxiously. Fennekin clung to her shoulder, as if mirroring its trainer's emotions.
A few seconds later, a shiny black head comes poking out of the bushes, and Rina quickly gets out her Pokedex."Scatterbug: The Scatterdust Pokemon. When under attack from bird Pokémon, it spews a poisonous black powder that causes paralysis on contact. The powder that covers its body regulates its temperature, so it can live in any region or climate."Closing the dex, Rina nodded."Scatterbug, huh.. Alright, Fennekin. Let's show it what we've got!"
Fennekin hopped down to the ground and Rina's feet, baring her teeth and poised for action."Ember!"Rina cried, and Fennekin opened her mouth wide and let loose a red-hot flame. Scatterbug shrieked and tried to run away, but quickly got caught up in the blaze and collapsed, singed and dazed.
Rina blinked dumbfoundedly."Is... that it?"she asked, almost laughing at how scared she had been."Wow, Fennekin, you're really strong!"she praised, before reaching into her bag and pulling out a Pokeball."Alright, Scatterbug... I'm gonna catch you! Pokeball, go!"She threw the pokeball with all her might, watching as it popped open and sucked the unconscious bug inside. The ball gave a weak shake, stood still for a moment, and after what seemed like forever to anxious Rina, finally clicked shut.
Rina couldn't contain her excitement."All right!"she exclaimed, picking up her Fennekin and jumping in circles a few times."Great job, Fennekin! Now we have a new partner!"Grinning, Rina stooped to collect her Pokeball, then called Fennekin back up onto her shoulder."Let's try and make it to the next town now, so we can heal up our new friend.. and maybe get you a little treat,"she said with a wink.
Kalos. That was their stop. Erryn had no idea where Kalos was or what it was like, but she figured it was better than being in Alola at that moment. Hopefully those people hadn’t seen her and they were safe for the time being. When the boat docked, Erryn and Bryant where the first to disembark, the Riolu doing his best to keep the egg hidden just in case someone else wanted it for themselves. The little town they walked into was a cozy one like Pallet Town, but seemed more....Was it fancy? Pallet Town didn’t have much in the way of stone work whereas this town, Vaniville from what someone nearby said, seemed to favor it."This place is nice. Do you know it, Bryant?""...Lu."Erryn frowned. That didn’t seem like the normal “not the talkative type” response. Did Bryant not like Kalos? Why?"If you don’t want to be here, we can go back to Kanto....I don’t mind.""It’s alright. I can tell you don’t like being on the boats."Aw. That was sweet of him. Erryn gave a smile before deciding to stay in Kalos for now. If Bryant got too uncomfortable, then they’d just leave."Okay. While we’re here, let’s see if we can find a map or something."
It didn't seem the Pokemon in Vaniville were all that strong. Her team wouldn't really benefit from battling them; it'd just be cruelty to fight them at this point. So, maybe she'd go a little further into Kalos? While they were here, they might as well train for the gyms Bryant's so interested in. Though, she'd...avoid Kalos gyms just in case Bryant got too uncomfortable to deal with and they needed to leave the region in a hurry for his sake."The ice is melting.""Okay. Let me get Cuno."Erryn grabbed Cuno's ball and let the Articuno out, watching as it waited for Bryant to put the egg down to reforge the cast of ice."That's an interesting way to incubate an egg. Or, are you trying to keep it from hatching?"While Erryn nearly had a heart attack, Bryant and Cuno had much more aggressive reactions to the stranger that snuck up on them. Cuno readied itself to defend the egg, but Bryant chose to stay with his trainer. The man held up in hands in surrender, seeming to be genuinely surprised at the reactions he got. At least from the Pokemon. He even took a few steps back to show he meant no harm, though that really only appeased Erryn and Bryant.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to frighten any of you.""...Who are you?""Augustine Sycamore. I'm the local professor here in Kalos.""Like...Professor Oak?""Exactly like Professor Oak."That was enough to calm Bryant and Cuno, though the avian still remained on guard as it continued to cover the egg. Sycamore seemed rather interested in Cuno and what it was doing."Fascinating.""Did you need something, Professor?""What?...Oh, yes! Forgive me. I was out getting some fresh air and saw the Articuno with you. Is it yours?"Erryn tilted her head in thought before looking at Cuno. It looked back at her with a certain look and she shook her head."Cuno has his own ball, but I wouldn't say he's mine. Why do you ask?""Truth be told, I would very much like to do a bit of research on it. But, only if it'll let me. I'm willing to give you both something in return."
Erryn wasn't too sure Cuno would like that very much, but she looked at it to get its opinion and the bird seemed okay with it. At least, it wasn't making any show of disapproval. In fact, he almost looked curious."You won't hurt him?""Oh, no. Not at all. Just some quick observations. I won't even touch if it makes you or the Pokemon uncomfortable."She was still a bit skeptical, but he seemed sincere enough and Bryant wasn't showing any signs of aggression anymore. Riolu were super in-tune with that, weren't they? At least, that's what the PokeDex said. So, she moved aside and watched as Sycamore approached Cuno carefully.
The interactions between Cuno and the professor were interesting. Sycamore kept his word and avoided touching Cuno, instead opting to ask it to lift a wing or if it was fine if he took a feather that had fallen from the Pokemon's body. He clearly had a lot of respect for the creatures. Erryn was intrigued and impressed by it."We should ask if he knows anything about the egg. What species it might hatch into or where its native to.""Really?...I guess if he's a professor, he might know. I'll ask when he's done with Cuno."

After the professor was done with his observations, Cuno having been remarkably cooperative, he finished up his notes before returning to Erryn."Did you get everything you wanted?""I did indeed! And, as promised, some payment for time."Sycamore reached into what she figured was his field bag and pulled out two things; an egg of some kind, a bunch of candy of some kind, and a weird blue and black stone. Erryn tilted her head at the items as she took them, confused."I can see these must be new to you. What I've given you are very useful to trainers. Lucky eggs and rare candies help Pokemon grow stronger at a faster rate."Well, the egg and candies sounded really useful for some quick power boosting if she ever needed it, but that didn't explain what the stone was.
"Um....What about this?"The professor smiled before placing his finger over his lips in the "shush" motion."When your Charmander evolves into a Charizard, come back and see me. I'll show you how that stone works then.""Huh? How did you know I have a--""Professor Sycamore! You have trainers waiting for you!""Coming! I'll see you down the line, mademoiselle~."Erryn was so caught off guard as Sycamore moved passed her to return to his lab that she completely forgot to ask about the egg. It wasn't until Cuno pecked at her that she snapped out of it.
"I forgot to ask about the egg! And, how did he know I have a Charmander!?""I've heard professors often talk to one another to share research or discuss promising trainers. It's possible Professor Oak mentioned you to the other professors; he seemed very chatty while I lived at his lab.""Really?...Does that mean Professor Oak thinks I have potential? And, do you know what this stone is, Bryant?""I believe he may have sensed something from you, yes. As for the stone...."Bryant stared at the stone for a considerable amount of seconds with a small glint of recognition and disdain in his eyes before looking away."No. I don't know what it is. We should get moving."Bryant didn't give her a chance to ask what was wrong or try to pry into why he was lying, which he obviously knew she caught onto, but Erryn didn't really take offense to it. He looked...hurt...by looking at the stone and it brought bad memories up that he didn't want to talk about, she wasn't going to force him to. Erryn put the items in her bag before following after Bryant, Cuno giving a soft, curious, and concerned coo as it followed them. Clearly, Cuno picked up on the tension, too.
Esben and his team took to hiding in the back of the train under the most spaciously abandoned seats available. Which, on a train, was very few and far between. Luckily, everyone else seemed engaged in their own little worlds and didn’t pay mind to the odd looking boy and his pokemon huddled under the seats. At least until it came to a stop. At about that point, Esben was pushing his way through the crowd and almost knocking people over just to get off the train.

While he was happy to have temporarily escape Duncan, Esben found himself face with a new conundrum. Mainly, he had absolutely no idea where he was now; they certainly hadn’t found water or a boat as intended, so how did they get here? Sure he’d hidden on the … odd metal cave thing? But he didn't recall moving all that far. And yet the location he was in now hardly looked anything like the place he’d come from. What was this sorcery?!
He grimaced and unconsciously cuddled Flef (who he'd retrieved from Byr's care while they were on the train) closer to him, even moving a bit to usher the remainder of his team to crowd around and stay close. This place was very… bright? Cheery? Weird was the word he really wanted to use. He was so used to cold tundras and snow and… well there was greenery and forests too back where he came from but the buildings. And how well the stone pathways were laid. It was just all too much!

On top of that it was such an open area that he felt at any minute Duncan would come lumbering out of nowhere to assert his dominance and drag him back to the pits of who knew where. And Esben was not at all willing to go without a struggle. And it would be a struggle.
"C’mon all, we’re goin’ for the forest! We can’t stay out here in the open like this!" He announced, earning him a few looks from some passer bys that were just exiting off the train themselves. He didn’t bother addressing them or looking at them or acknowledging the whispers that some were engaging in or the looks of ‘is that boy lost? Should we help?’. No, instead Esben started forward down the nearest path towards trees and such. The sooner he was out of sight, the better.
