As they started through Coumarine, Brian checking to find the fastest route to the next gym, she reached up, grabbing Lucy's arm, and gently pulling her around to hold her in front of her. For a second, it looked like he was going to dismiss it, but then he turned, setting her with a look as they walked. "You do know she's smart, right? Pokemon aren't children. They're as intelligent as we are, sometimes more. You don't need to talk her down like that," he said, looking at her with a slight frown. He almost looked... disappointed. Or disapproving. Mel blinked, her eyes wide. "I know that. I wasn't talking her down, I was just explaining--" "You don't have to do that, either. You're their trainer. You're in charge, Mel. You don't have to coddle them or explain yourself," he insisted, going back to the map as they neared the edge of the city, "You certainly shouldn't be doubting yourself just because you haven't trained one of them for a while..." Something in the undertone of his voice as he muttered that clicked for Mel, and her mouth thinned. Her jaw set, and she stared at him, hands balling up by her sides.
