Tendaji Illnesses

As in any world, there are always sickness and disease. While Tendaji doesn't suffer from the same kinds as the people of Earth did way back when, there are still some mutations lingering around the present day.

We've turned to our owners to come up with illnesses for our little world, so if you have an idea: PM Suhuba.
It will go through an approval process where we will work out the details before being posted in this thread.

Notes on Illnesses
|| Only owners can decide whether their character will catch it. So contagious characters cannot force an illness on someone else.
|| Serious illnesses may allow for loss of limbs. These illnesses should be seriously considered before catching.
|| Loss of limbs will negatively effect stats in battle, and may cause a character to lose the ability to fight altogether. (stat effects will vary based on limb lost and weapon used)

Crystal Rot
(Caro Lapidae)

A form of flesh eating bacteria. It enters through wounds, consumption, or through other "holes" in the body when swimming. However, it's only contagious to other wounded people or sick people; a healthy person with no wounds cannot get sick unless they get injured, swim in contaminated water, or drink contaminated water.

Area(s) || Most common in Jauhar, starting to reach outward to Tale and Sauti.
How to contract it || Open wounds, swimming in or drinking water contaminated with the disease, coming in close/intimate contact with another actively infected person while sick or severely injured.

Symptoms

|| Frequent, but short lived, fevers. Always accompanied by excessive sweating.
For those injured:
|| Any wound sustained takes on a light blue hue. If the person is Shifter, the color is visible as light blue in the day and as dark blue in the evening. They may also become numb or only sting if pressed upon. The surrounding skin may also take on a bluish hue, if there are many wounds or if the wound is large.
|| After a day, the light blue color has turned dark blue and some "crystallizing" may start. Be warned, these are not scabs, nor is the wound healing. What's happening is that the tissues under the wound are dying and drying up, which is what makes them look like a scab at first. As the "crystals" grow larger, they stick together and may fall off, leaving a gaping wound. New ones may form if the wound isn't properly covered.
|| At this point, if the infected person isn't in quarantine, they really should be. The fevers have become more frequent and can even cause memory loss. However, they may still be mobile and able to communicate clearly. An odd gray-blue liquid may start to come from all the wounds that they have. It has the thickness of milk and smells sweet-sour. This liquid needs to be cleaned up carefully or simply avoided completely, because if someone were to touch it and not wash their hands or then touch someone with injuries, they too, could become contaminated.
|| The liquid has begun to "crystallize" and "eat" whatever flesh it may have come in contact with. People can lose arms, legs, pretty much any limb if enough of the liquid has reached that area. Think of it as scaling that wraps around the limb or area and chokes it, leaving it dried up and useless. If the liquid has reached something vital, such as the throat or the head, this person is as good as dead at this point, unless the infected limb is cut off, such as an antenna. If that was the only space that the liquid touched, amputation could save their life.
|| Ultimately, if left completely untreated, the person will die.
For those swam in or drank contaminated liquid:
|| If they have no open wounds or injuries, they will only experience fevers at first. However, they may find that they are fatigued, itchy, or very irritable. The fevers can become very severe and can cause brain damage if left untreated, though vivid hallucinations are more common.
|| Soon, they may find that they can't move their muscles or they may suddenly start shaking. Anxiety attacks, paranoia, and loss of hearing, sight and smell are very common.
|| Ultimately, the person will either die of a seizure or from a mental episode.
|| If they have open wounds, follow the injured pattern but skip the wounds turning light blue. The disease is already in their body and can nest much faster, causing rapid infection to occur.

Treatment

|| HEALING. Get them to a healer, quickly! If you don't have a healer nearby, have the person eat as much fruit and drink as much clean water as possible. Give them herbs, natural things, medicines. The more vitamins they have in their body, the easier it will be for their body to fight the disease.
|| Get them to a safe, WARM, space. The sweating may not look nice, but it's actually helping. Keep all wounds tightly wrapped and covered in blankets to keep the sweat out. Don't let the wounds get wet or they may spread faster.
|| Keep them alert. Talk to them, sing with them, do whatever you can to keep them company. It'll help them.
|| Make sure they eat, drink, and sleep on a schedule. Don't let them get up or remove their bandages.
|| Don't rile them up or make their heartbeat go too fast. The disease will travel faster if their blood gets pumping. Keep them as calm as possible. Stay calm. Just stay calm. You don't want to make them feel any worse than they do by freaking out, and you don't want to make any mistakes when treating them.

Blue Fever

An illness that seems to only manifest in those who have body crystals and causes intense fever, chills, and sometimes a debilitating cough.

Area(s) || Common in Zena but has been seen in Sauti and parts of Tale
How to contract it || Blue fever is a virus that infects those with a lowered immune system. A small cough can be a gateway for it to work its way in and cause more issues and damage. It seems to affect only those with crystals, which seems to have most healers puzzled. The most common way to be infected with the virus is through drinking contaminated water, or eating contaminated food. Mostly it is food that has been left to sit out for more than two days.

Symptoms

|| A high fever that borders on the line of dangerous.
|| Cold chills that wrack the body and cause discomfort.
|| An intense cough that leaves the lungs feeling as though they are being shredded. Can sometimes result in blood being coughed up.
|| A blue tinge to the whites of the eyes and lips. This sometimes confuses healers into thinking it's a case of hypothermia.
|| This blue color also rings the body crystals and causes the skin to look as though it is dead.
|| Fatigue. Most of those infected tend to want to sleep for extended periods.

Treatment

|| Find a healer for the infected.
|| Make sure they keep hydrated since the fever can burn through their body's reserves of water quickly.
|| Keep them on a normal sleep schedule. This helps their body to work extra hard to fight the illness when they do sleep.
|| Make sure they sleep on their side to avoid choking on any blood that is coughed up.
