The Residential District
Home grown, Cubical Fortresses

The Residential District is as dark looking set of buildings around 15 stories tall full of apartments. Due to the nature of the City, people generally keep to themselves and try to mind their own buisness. Their apartments are usually well protected and booby trapped to protect against theft, stalking, and other assorted lesser crimes. Tourists generally dont come this way, and people dont answer the doors unless they are expecting someone, and even then the answer why holding a weapon...

Amai walked into the residential district. Looking about it looked quite barren, much like all the other areas of this city but the club. She let out an inner sigh. We came so early we didn't give time for people to move in or settle down. . . Can't imagine anyone wanting to settle down here with a family though. The mood of this place is. . .hostile. Even with no one else around. She turned, walking down the path backwards, seeing if Mod was still following her along with the golem, seeing her small forming group she turned back to the front. I guess we can knock on the doors and ask some of the residents that are living here now.

Mod walked behind Amai, looking around and taking in the scenes. He was still on a intel mission he didn't know what the original had come up with yet but he still should bring back something. He noticed they arrived in a residential area. People didn't seem very helpful and many eyed them as they walked."They don't seem like they would help us..."

Amai looked to him and nodded. Sighing softly. She didn't want to disappoint Sanshi or Sebastian by not getting any information. "Maybe so, . . but I have to try. I need to talk to someone who knows what's going on in this strange place. Make sense of it. . ." I can't be a failure to him. . .

Mod looked at her oddly as if wondering why she wanted to know what was going on, though if she really thought about it she could just ask him. Though he did say he just moved her since he village was destroyed so he could say he didn't know."Well, you can go ahead and try I'll back you up." He said with a thumbs up and a smile.

Amai nodded to Mod. Almost laughing at his smile. It was goofy and comforting, almost reminding her of another person she knew. Sebastian. . . If only I could face you. . . but I can't. "Thanks Mod." Walking into the big apartment building she coughed, it was a bit musty and yanked at her lungs with aggravating oders. As she walked down the first round of hallways she knocked on the doors. Her mind drifted off else were. Back to Sebastian as her small little alabaster hands passed each creaking door. "Hey Mod. . . Have you ever liked someone? And, were too afraid to tell them how you feel. Scared of things to change in between yo--" Her voice trailed off. She was at the end of the hall, and none of the residence had came to greet the pair and the golem. "Sorry, it's none of my business." Her voice grew quiet, just above a whisper. As she turned some unneeded tears began to swell at the rims of her eyes. Amai to her surprise almost smacked right into Mod. Stumbling past him rushing back down the hall to check the others. "S-Sorry!"

Amai stopped and turned back looking at Mod a few paces behind her. "Yes? I'm just going to check the next hall and see if anyone will answer their doors." She cracked a smile. A bit disappointed in herself. I can't do anything right. . . . I bet Sebastian is fed up with me half the time. "I'm okay though. . . just. . . a bit lost in thought I guess. . . . . . I should probably get my head out of the clouds." Laughing lightly she continued back to walking into the new hall. Knocking on all the doors. Once again, not getting a single response. Biting her lip lightly. "Just this boy. . . " Amai muttered under her breath to herself.

Mod looked at her, he could tell something was off, he had known her for long neough. But a random stranger like him shouldn't."Oh ok." He slowly followed her when she knocked on the doors. Nobody answered like before so he just stood back."There used to be this girl...back in my village she was amazing...strong...beautiful...smart."He then looked down to the floor."Never told her how I felt...always felt like she would reject me..."

Amai turned looking at Mod with a half smile. "Oh? . . . Who would turn down a charming face like yours." Turning back she continued knocking on doors. "You have charming features. Almost like my Haji. . . . .Well. His real name is Sebastian." She looked back at him for a moment continuing. "That's the guy I like." Going back to her task she knocked on a door. Hearing a woman in the room cursing at her to leave. Cracking a half smile she laughed lightly going down the hall to the other doors. "He's smart. . . surprisingly strong. . . and quick." Stopping once more she leaned on the wall. Resting her temple adjacent the cool surface. Turning back to him moving her forehead on the wall. "I might even say I love him . . . . but. . . there's something about him. As kids. We were always so... close..... but now. He's been getting more distant. . . and I think he's hiding something from me." Pushing off the wall she grunted some. "He probably has a girlfriend in another village or something. That might be it. I think I can get a few cold shoulder hints. . . .but it's whatever. It's his life. . . and I'm happy for him either way.. . . . really." Her voice changed to hurt as she continued knocking. Her gentle taps turning more into rude bangs. "I'm happy for him. . . " Really.

Mod smirked at her comment."You'd be surprised." He looked at her when she mentioned him. So she thought he had charming features? Then she said that he was the guy that she liked, he froze slightly. So this entire time she was talking about him? Was he really that blind? Well she was guilty of the same. When she mentioned that he was surprisingly strong he thought about the time when he killed that beetle. He had to show a little to much of his strength in that one but it was worth it to get them out of there. Mod still hadn't moved from when she said she liked him but then she went on to say she might even love him. His stomach started feeling weird and he felt warmer. If he could only just tell her how he felt. But she would hate him for having a clone keep an eye on her."Well, maybe you should tell him...I'm sure he has his reason for being distant but if you tell him he might be closer..."That was a lie, he knew he couldn't tell her half of the things about him."pretty face like yours... i'm sure he probably has the same feelings." Her knocks soon became loud bangs he got a little closer to her to stop her but the door opened. But all he saw was something glint, a knife in someones hand heading towards the distraught Amai. Mods hand grabbed the person wrist and slammed it against the wall you could hear something audibly crack as the person dropped the knife. Amai couldn't see Mods face because he was standing inbetween him and the attack from the door. Mods eyes glared down into the attackers eyes who like frightened to his very core. Mod let go and the man retreated into his home and Mod closed the door."I think its too dangerous to stay here." His anger subsided and he smiled and Amai gently placing a hand on her elbow."Lets go."

Amai's heart had stopped as the man came out with the knife. Frozen in place as Mod had dealt with it. Cursing at herself under her breath she nodded to Mod. Turning back to head out of the building complex. Her face covered in shadow. Going back to their subject as her pace quickened. "Maybe. . . . But from what I've been able to tell he only likes me as a friend. At the most annoying. . . I'm always getting in his way a freezing. . . And everyone thinks I'm weak and helpless when I'm not! Always having to keep extra eyes on me like some weakling child that needs a nanny." Sighing she stopped at the doors. Opening the doors she shook herself. "I'm probably a little kid in his eyes. . . We went on this mission once. . . and I froze up. I could have fought. But ended up being the damsel in distress." Looking back to Mod as the exited. "And after I haven't been able to look at him right since. . . . I can't imagine of what he thinks of me now. . . . And now, a year later. I'm on this mission. . . and I have to have an escort." She gestured to the golem. "And you. . . but I know your not here to 'protect me'." Technically he already has. *sigh*

Mod walked with Amai."I see, well you will never know another feeling unless you reveal your own." Unless you disguise yourself as a another person and secretly protect said person. Mod thought to himself he felt kind of bad deceiving Amai like this but it was for her own good. He listened to her while she continued talking then mentioning him. He chuckled and scratched the back of his head."True, it just looked like you were a bit lost earlier."

The young man wandered into the residential district of the city, looking around for the building the man had told him about. When he spotted it, he ducked into the small alley between the buildings across the street and watched the door to see if anyone appeared with something that looked like a shipment. He thought about just walking up to the door, but reconsidered when he noticed a couple of small traps set up that people around were simply avoiding like they knew they were there all the time. Also considering he was alone here, Hiroto thought it best to air on the side of caution. He would continue to wait as the morning came, the cool air of the night sobering him up, and watched the building for any activity that could surround a potential armor shipment.

As the night wore on and the cool blue rays of the morning sun first peeked over the edge of the horizon, at long last a suspicious man would appear. Navigating the traps with professional nonchalance, he approached the building. He gave two soft raps against a window on the lowest floor and then pulled out a pocket book. The window slid open about a half-inch and the book was passed inside alongside a few whispers. Then the man would check over his shoulder and mumble: "Shipment's waiting around the corner. Give it about fifteen minutes before grabbing it. It'll be cleared by then."

Then the man would set off back down the street like nothing happened, not bothering to wait to get his pocket book back.
