National Geographic says that 700 asteroids have been identified by NASA which are big enough to incinerate earth and cause a mass extinction similar to that which eradicated the dinosaurs.
They only identify those whose orbits intersect that of earth.
They estimate there are 300 still unidentified.
internationally, the number of scientists dedicated to preventing this threat are numbered, according to one of them, at "equivalent to two shifts at McDonald's".
do you feel threatened?

let's hope so!
but even then, the number is only slightly over a dozen.
America devotes more people to renaming fish (seriously) than to saving us from armageddon.

other than old age an asteriod is the natural diasater that's most likely thats to kill you.
