I always figured Nerds are just really smart, and Geeks have one or more obsessions. Please post any arguments/elaborations.

Nerds.. Nerds are all about the Japentai, D&D, A/V Club and pocket protectors ((I should know, I'm 2/3 nerd)) and Geeks, are everthing that a Nerd and Dork don't cover. They are both a way of life, not a "Title of School/Society"

The knowledge of a geek spans the vastness of anime, video games, role- playing, fantasy, science- fiction, and far beyond. Star Trek, Trigun, The Lord of the Rings: This is the way of geekhood.
A nerd's passion is learning. If there's new information about technology, science, politics, or anything else that comes across as being scholarly, this person knows all about it and then some.
Whether your question is silly or serious, if you ask it, their answer will come.

Nerd - all around smartie - can be an RPGer, anime fan, programmer, Lord of the Rings reader, or lab rat - but is also socialy proficiant.
Geek - incrediably specialized - math geek, video gamer, ect. - absolutely lives for one particular thing - can be socialy proficiant
Dork - socialy inept.
cross classing is possible.

True definition of geek: Somebody who bites the heads off of chickens.
Besides, nobody uses the term "geek" in the real world anymore. Nerd just pretty much covers it all.

The only difference in my opinion is that Geeks don't dress tacky like nerds.

Well I'm a nerd, and for some reason I hate the only 100% geek example I know of. well hate is a bit harsh. It's more like being god danged tired of hearing his non-sense about the girl he likes (because she looks like an anime character, geez, he doesn't know a thing about her, that's all the reasons for him to like her) and random stuff like "Badabang Ignis" that he says when he doesn't know what to say. Plus he's allways making ew yu-gi-ho's decks and telling me everything about it! boring

Whether your question is silly or serious, if you ask it, their answer will come. This is correct. Nerd's learn (generally) more practical things. Both are, however, smart and usually a bit odd. I personally am incredibly weird, but very well put together and decent looking. I am a 2/3 geek 1/3 nerd. Ask me anything Final Fantasy, Japanese history, Norse mythology, or physics and I prolly got it right here for yah.

You really can't label people until they're 14 or older, and start to divide up into crowds.
