Upon Shigen’s landing, dust was sent up, causing him to stifle a cough, waving at the air in front of him. The light was filtering in from the top in ineffective ways, making it difficult to see into the shadows caused by the overhanging debris not to mention the fallen arch structure of the artifact exhibit. Shingen could see some of the exhibits still somewhat standing while others were entirely buried. “Zen!” He called out, wondering if it was short for Zenitsu or Zenimaru. He took a few steps forward, eager to find this person and begin sanitizing the entire museum.

A few feet ahead, Shingen could see something moving when something gripped his right ankle. Shingen shot a look down at his leg, feeling the grip quickly tighten. One of the ghouls, partly dismembered by a fallen beam was growling at him, although without it’s bottom jaw. A look of disgust was followed by the gesture of his hand and a blue rectangular prism appeared through the head of the creature, rendering it suddenly motionless. I can still feel the barrier wasting away which means I should probably keep from touching these bastards and whatever they’re swimming in.

Shaking his leg free, Shingen continued on down the exhibit and noticed something coming up by his feet. The black substance he had seen before had pooled heavily ahead and was swaying every which way. Deciding to stay off it, Shingen walked over it, a blue platform forming under every step he took. “ZEN! ARE YOU DOWN HERE?!” Shingen shouted when a black mass rose right in front of him. A great swell in what looked like a black pond rushed upwards and towered over him.

A dozen or more red eyes looked back at him from within the darkness including one pair that suddenly appeared behind him. The ugly growl of the undead echoed around Shingen as they made their appearance once again. ”Fine. I’ll play.” A blue katana of pure energy slipped into existence, lighting up a devious smirk. The ghoul’s outstretched hand from behind was abruptly airborne along with the top of it’s head. Blue panes of energy shimmered dimly in the dark, trailing towards the raised black mass, flickering as the black bodies of the undead converged on a dancing sword in the dark.

Rotted flesh was rent, only recognizable nearest the only light source in the area. The blue sword pirouetting around a central point. Ater more than a handful, it began to seem like they were only increasing in number and not at all trailing. Unbeknownst to him, the black goo had amassed enough density to increase it’s effectiveness. Shingen sped up with the increase in numbers. Red eyes and decayed teeth flashes around him as he severed limbs at the joint and jaws at the hinge. The larger containment around the area began to flicker as Shingen shifted focus to fending off the masses.

Then, as if recognizing it was nearly free, the black liquid surged into two more ‘pillars’, rising beside the largest one. Shingen noticed them just in time to see both of them rise aggressively and come down on him as if seeking to drown him. Finishing a swing of the sword, Shingen threw his free hand underarm in the direction of the pillars. Black goo splashed outward from it’s point of contact: a blue barrier the height of a man just past Shingen’s hand. The large containment barrier suddenly disappeared and the cursed goo continued it’s spread along the floor again, just a dozen feet from a partially buried and unconscious horned golem.

She was staring right into Édouard’s eyes, though they were shielded by the dark lenses of his sunglasses. The intensity of her gaze told him she was, as per usual, going to be stubborn. Normally he’d seen this behavior from her when self-interest was on the table but that wasn’t the case today. Did she actually have feelings for this guy that’d gotten caught up in the collapse? He had hoped this Zen person was just a casual fling because then it wouldn’t be as hard to convince her to leave but those eyes were stormier than usual.

His right eyebrow shot up and he let out a soft sigh. He took a couple of steps off to her left and gazed down into the destruction and stayed that way a couple of seconds, his face difficult to read until there was a small twitch at the corner of his mouth. He was deliberating the best way down. Though to be fair, from what he could see Aella wasn’t going to stick the landing anywhere below her. The bits of floor, ceiling, and wall, were jutting out at odd angles and it seemed like the perfect recipe for getting an ankle caught. Something caught his attention and he looked a bit further on. He could hear the other guy calling out for her boyfriend. He wasn’t keen on jumping down in sight of the BoM man only to be lectured about going back up and escaping. Plus, it might prompt the guy to ask questions about what he was doing and why he had that sword. He looked a bit more to his left and saw what might have been a more concealed spot to make the descent.

His eyes shot back at Aella quickly before he began moving again. Now off her right he tapped his foot on the tile flooring and shrugged a bit. He half turned to face the raven haired classmate once more and motioned his head toward the spot he was standing. “Don’t do anything until I tell you it’s clear.” He said sternly. He was about to turn his full attention back to his jump when he paused and added: “I mean it. If you just come down on your own and break your ankle, I’m leaving you here.” With that he turned his back to the ledge and hopped down. He dug the tips of his shoes into the side a bit and pushed off before slowing himself so he didn’t end up being the one getting hurt.

A large cloud of dust erupted under him and smaller bits of debris were shot out from the spot, bouncing and ricocheting around like tiny bullets. From her vantage point, he’d have hopped down and then there would have just been the unusual dust cloud. The spot he chose wouldn’t let her see that he’d actually managed to slow himself for a very soft landing and that was by design. As the cloud began to disperse and waft away he looked up toward the broken top of the floor. It wasn’t far down enough that he needed to shout so he called up to Aella. “Go to the spot I was at and jump. I’ll catch you.”

As the words left his mouth that sickening feeling that’d been creeping around in the back of his mind and the deepest pits of his stomach came back. Whatever was holding back the black goo was just about gone and soon the undead would begin swarming the museum again. He wasn’t focused on any of the ambient noise from further down the collapsed trench but he could hear them—they were starting to emerge from rubble. He cursed under his breath and moved around a bit to see down the way from behind what was left of a support column. He caught a glimpse of a light moving around and it was broken up by moving shapes. It must have been the BoM officer or whatever they called themselves. There seemed to be a lot of them already. He went back to the spot he’d landed at and called up to her again. “We’re out of time! Those things are already here and they’re attacking that other guy!”

tab I'm the violence in the pouring rain.

  • Aww, was Ed actually being sweet and deciding to help her? She would have patronized him for doing so if Zen's safety wasn't in question. So instead, Aella gave him a nod of confirmation. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. You'll leave me to die if I'm dead weight. We're clear on that." So she waited for him to give her the signal like the good girl that she wasn't.

While she waited, stormy irises remained locked onto Édouard as he tested the edge of the collapsed floor. She could sense his frustration and concern, but she wasn't about to leave Zen behind, especially when there was a chance he might still be alive down there. It wasn't about love or not- or maybe it was, she didn't know. They weren't in that deep romantically, but the friends with benefits dating thing they were doing was built upon something far more substantial. The physical affection and stuff was just a bonus really.

What Ed was doing, she didn't know. She thought perhaps he was going to shoot at the rocks or toss something down there to even them out a bit before he helped her down or something. What she didn't except was for Ed to jump down there himself! Who was he and what had he done with the sociopath she was used to? whatever, she wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Maybe through all her encounters with Ed, he'd developed a tolerance for her. Still, she couldn't keep the surprise from showing on her face. Dark lashes were wide, stormy hues frozen with shock. The angled slope of her jawline was slack, porcelain skin smooth and relaxed. Plush lips parted and both brows rose.

"Are you okay?" Aella called down to him through the dust cloud, unsure if he landed alright or not until he instructed her to jump from the same spot. "Okay..." She murmured, clearly unsure about the wiseness of this decision but doing it anyway. Landing on Ed would be a hell of a lot better than landing in a crack of two jagged pieces of cement and rebar. Her slender form quickly squirmed and shimmied up the edge she had her legs dangling over and moved to the spot Ed jumped from.

"I can help with that, just catch me!" Aella said and jumped without hesitation. Unlike the movies where the girl would land perfectly in a princess carry, Aella wasn't around to just jump down a** first. She was more like a monkey jumping onto a tree or a child jumping to a parent, both arms out and body ready to fully wrap around and latch onto him. Even if he wasn't ready, she was grabbing onto Ed in her decent, in a koala-esque manner. Hopefully he was prepared enough not to go tumbling when she landed on him.

Either way, whether she was climbing down from Ed or scrambling up from the debris pile, Aella would find her feet quickly and start digging in the rubble close to where she'd been standing when the floor collapsed. Aella had no idea where Zen ended up in the rubble and the other man further down hadn't mentioned out loud that he spotted him, so she assumed he would be closer to where she had been and began digging there by cupping her hands and pushing stuff off the top. Seeing as how Ed was now stuck down there with the rest of them, she might as well put him to work.

"Help me move these rocks Ed, the faster we find him, the faster we can get out of here."

Shingen was working up a sweat as he fended off the increasing horde of undead until he noticed over the two from before over his shoulder. Pushing off backwards to create some distance between himself and the enemy, he then put his palm out in front of him and a large wall, floor to ceiling appeared, separating the three from the monsters. He was only half surprised they came down for their friend but things were quickly getting out of hand, Shingen had lost concentration in all the frenzy and his containment barrier had fallen. Now it was only a matter of time before the entire museum was lost to the ever invading black goo.

The ghouls collided against the semi-transparent wall, bent on breaking through to their prey and the black goo itself was seeping through the time cracks in the walls and ceiling. ”This whole place is going to hell. If the BoM doesn’t get here soon, we’re not gonna make it!” Shingen was only half lying. He still had more to give but it required general destruction and widespread demolition.

While he had his head turned to talk to them, a black tendril had bored through from one of the vents that was now unrestricted from the containment dropping. It found Shingen and lunged at his head seeking to pierce it through. He quickly parried it with the sword in his other hand, fending it off time and time again before cutting it’s end off where it fell on the floor and liquified once again from it’s more solid attacking constitution. Looking at the small puddle it had formed, Shingen noticed it begin to creep back to the main body which was still spreading.

It was then that Shingen noticed a face with a singular horn just under one of the piles of debris. ”Hey, right there! Is that him?” Shingen shouted as he took another look. It was almost as if he’d seen him before. It was likely he’d seen him walking around the museum but he felt like it had been in a different setting. The horn also made him question just was he might be. Regardless, the situation had changed and Shingen was more than annoyed. Walking up to the barrier wall in front of him, he placed his hand on it. The ghouls could see that and converged on the warm flesh right before their eyes and seemed to piled over each other for first dibs.

Suddenly, the barrier shattered into glimmering dust and was being pulled violently towards Shingen’s outstretched hand. Everything that was making contact with the barrier and even a large portion of the goo was being pulled as well. It was as if a vacuum had suddenly appeared in the palm of his hand. ”I’m done with this.” The suction caused winds to pick up in Shingen’s direction but would all fall to the same place as everything else. After a moment or two, everything settled and Shingen was left standing there, holding a strangely smoldering black sphere that resembled a pill in his hand. The immediate area in front of him had been cleared although all that did was slow down the incoming undead and there was still the goo’s source further back.

Aella’s landing, if you could call it that was slightly awkward but he’d managed not to lose balance or drop her. As soon as her feet had made contact with the broken ground she was off digging into the pile of debris roughly where she’d been before the collapse. She was moving some pretty descent chunks of rock and rubble but there pieces there that would be difficult. He knew he could move them with less effort so he walked up next to her and inhaled deeply before his hands reached out and clamped onto a piece that might have been a support of some sort. Édouard wasn’t one to flaunt his abilities and so he’d never really given much of a display of how strong he was. He grit his teeth together and began pulling. As it began to move some the pile it was sitting in began to be disturbed. Smaller bits of stone began falling away revealing he’d chosen a piece longer than he was tall. It was solid and the other end was very snuggly buried. He repositioned his feet and with a strained growl he wrenched the object free and then hurled it further down the trench with a grunt. He let out a heavy sigh as it made a thunderous thooming sound upon landing. He gazed into the opening and saw nothing.

He took a second to take a breath and glanced in the direction of the other man down there. He narrowed his eyes trying to get a firm handle on how well he was dealing with it. It didn’t appear things were going all that well. As he was watching, their mysterious foe had attempted to end the man in one hit but had failed. But regardless of this man’s quick actions, it was not a comforting sign. He’d been trying to talk to them but he hadn’t listened. Now he was addressing them again only this time Édouard had caught what he’d blurted out. Looking down, he could see the horn but not make out much else. He wasn’t really the one to verify if this was Aella’s friend or not but even if it wasn’t him it was someone and with witnesses around leaving them behind wasn’t in the cards. He quickly navigated his way over the ankle twisting mess and reached the spot where the face was. Édouard glanced up to see the other man walking toward the wall he’d created. He shook his head some and began unburying as much of the person in the rubble as he could.

He glanced at Aella quickly blurting out “Is this your boyfriend?” hoping she’d say 'yes' so they could grab him and leave the museum before the entire thing fell on them or they got overwhelmed by goo. He’d grabbed onto Zen’s unconscious body and pulled on him so he was now more than half exposed before the sound of the wall shattering caught his attention. He watched as the writhing mass of undead began being pulled toward the other man’s hand. He could feel wind being drawn in from around them toward the circulation he’d created and he gestured for Aella to speed up her work. He wasn’t entirely sure what the end game of this little trick was but it wasn’t but a few more moments and the winds stopped and the horde that had been directly in front of the man was gone. He blinked behind the concealing shelter of his lenses and raised an eyebrow.

It seemed this man had eased the threat a little. A little showy perhaps but he wasn’t going to complain if it gave them more time to remove Mr. Horn from his dusty prison. Speaking of which, had Aella’s man had horns or a single horn? He didn’t remember. Looking down at the now mostly exposed Zen it finally dawned on him that the person they were fishing out of the ruins of the exhibit was a golem. He stood up straight and adjusted his shirt some letting his cold blue eyes give Aella a good once over. He wasn’t very particular about whether personhood belonged to a golem or not but he couldn’t help but let a snarky thought or two cross his mind. Had he known what this guy was at the start, he may have judged the entire effort not worth it and left. It was a little too late for that now. He wasn't sure if any of this had translated to his facial expression or not. If it had, it wasn't like she'd have the focus to dwell on it. He might have even made a remark or two under different circumstances but he was all for canning the smarm for now. He what had happened down there was a temporary solution and that the clock was still ticking. For all he knew, they could be swarmed the moment they got back up on the ground floor so he went back to removing rocks off of Zen.

tab I'm the violence in the pouring rain.

  • Amidst the chaos and rubble, Aella's landing had been a dance of grace meeting disarray. Ed's solid frame caught her easily, her motion coming to a stop as her slender form wrapped around his then slid down to meet the ground. Bare feet touched the jagged terrain, sending a shiver through her frame, yet she maintained her balance on this treacherous stage. She had to. Instinct insisted that Zen had been caught in the collapse and he was unconscious or worse, so it was up to her and whomever she could get to help but no one would be as invested as she was. They might even leave him there once they discovered he was a flesh golem.

Fingers gripped stones and rocks with a fierce resolve as she began to tear through whatever debris she could. Each piece she unearthed revealed a fragment of the museum's history, a testament to the havoc that had befallen it but Aella was interested in none of it. She did not care for artifacts or history. The most powerful weapon could be buried here in the rocks and Aella would toss it away the same as any other piece of broken plaster.

Thankfully Ed actually continued to help her. She hadn't expected much from him, he seemed like the type to look out for himself and she was already grateful he'd helped her down there, so when he started helping her dig, Aella looked up from the spot she was frantically clearing to acknowledge his efforts. There was no smile, just the connection of her stormy gaze with his dark, impenetrable shades. He might not have been looking at her, but she felt like there was a silent acknowledgement before she turned her attention back to her task. And then the rubble began to shift. Thick lashes flashed wide as the pile beneath her began to shift and tremble. Immediately, she snapped her eyes back to the blonde and cleared out of the way by backing down off the shifting mound of rubble. What looked to have been a bust sized piece of concrete ended up being much bigger.

Slowly her jaw went slack. His strength, concealed beneath layers of nonchalance, emerged as a tempestuous force, shaking the very foundations of their surroundings. She watched him grunt as he pulled the pillar up from the pile of rubble, his muscles straining, and with an abrupt motion, sent the colossal obstruction hurtling away like an elemental fury, its thunderous descent echoing through the shattered halls. Aella was shook. Sure, Ed was fit. He seemed stronger than average and had some shady connections that she suspected might run into the Undercroft, but there was nothing that stood out much. He always skated under the radar, rarely drawing attention. And now what- SUPER HUMAN STRENGTH?!

"Are you ******** kidding me?" The stunned words popped out of her mouth in the moment of shock before she shook herself and reminded her brain to focus. This wasn't the time, she could grill ******** superman later. Wait- was that why he always wore his glasses?! COULD HE SEE EVERYONE NAKED?! Focus Aella. "Nevermind."

It was then the other man called for them. Aella had mostly ignored him up until that point. He seemed fine on his own and with how willing her was to just jump in, she assumed he was museum security or BoM or something and was just doing his job. But then he mentioned Zen and all of a sudden Aella was prancing through the tunnel to his location as if she were a child hopping the rocky shoreline of the beach on summer vacation. Ed still managed to get there first, he'd been on the closer side of the pile he more or less dismantled on his own but Aella knew just from the one horn that it was the boy she was searching for.

"That's him!" Aella cried before Ed half pulled him up. She quickly looped an arm under his other shoulder to 'assist' even though Ed clearly didn't need help lifting anything and then continued to tug futilely at the unconscious guy as Ed cleared stuff off his legs. Likely Aella would injure him more with the way she tugged on him like a child trying to pull a stuffed toy that was stuck but she judged the scenario urgent enough. Just because magic sucky guy had made everything go away for a moment didn't mean that they were in the clear. She was very familiar with how Astarot's curse worked thanks to her interactions with Ash. It was gonna keep spreading until some holy magic or life energy cleaned the area and while she could use her own life energy to rid someone of the necrotic touch as she'd done with Zen's hand earlier, she had no idea how to do so on a grand scale.

"Don't give me that." Aella frowned at Ed's silent judgement, able to discern a vibe from him despite not saying anything. It was the slight curl in his lips and the way his jaw muscles flickered in disapproval. "Just help me carry him, he's half rock so..." So he's too heavy for me, but clearly not for you. The rest went unsaid, but she didn't feel the need to say it outloud. They both knew he was plenty strong enough at this point. "Got any idea how to get out vacuum box guy?" Aella asked the dude holding off the monsters.

    Post Theme:Spit Out The Bone

A guttural sound came from the direction of the goo. Shingen could see the gathering of the black sludge into a single location. Piling to the height of a large man, the goo hid a crooked smile, barely coming to it’s surface. There’s no way.. The goo began to solidify now into the shape of a man, eyes glowing and devious. “Run. Now.” Shingen said to the other two with a slight hint of fear in his voice. A blue staircase formed behind them just high enough to get the other three to one of the passages out of the building.

Shingen raised the smoldering pill up towards his mouth, feeling the dragon inside yearning for what was coming. Black sludge dripped from the dark shape just ahead of him, muscle and chains wrapped around it. Shingen dropped the sphere in his mouth and winds of energy flowed into him, transferring to the one inside. A red hue emanated from Shingen’s eyes now, strengthened. “This simply will not do, where is my welcoming party?” Said a course and sarcastic voice. “You’re supposed to be dead” Shingen said as he stepped up towards him. The man chuckled. “You can’t kill a ghost!”

The two suddenly disappeared. A crash could be heard in the chamber above, high up on the wall. Sitting in the hole made, lied Shingen, holding back the fist of the chained man. Blue gauntlets covered Shingen’s hands. When the man saw his attack had not landed, he began to unleash a rapid succession of strikes. Shingen followed closely, blocking them as quickly as they came but as he did, he was being buried deeper and deeper. Finding a gap, he gripped the monster’s wrist and kicked him out of the hole, blue gauntlets formed over his feet. Shingen launched himself after him to catch him mid air but his enemy swiped a back fist at him, a solid black mass in tow which Shingen barely blocked with a cross guard, sending him down to the cratered ruins below.

As Shingen landed, the man threw out his hand down at him and black tendrils shot out at him, like urchin’s spines. Having landed on his feet, Shingen diverted the ones converging on him, snapping them as they were parried at the forearms. One of the spines landed on the ground beside him and the man used it to pull himself suddenly on Shingen, throwing an elbow strike to his head. The agent managed to raised his own elbow in a close guard, the impact transferring to the ground below, sending dust up and out of the hole. The two began to look like a dark blur as they danced around each other, trying to land a strike.

The chained man suddenly swept Shingen off his feet and kicked upwards at him as he fell. Shingen held up his arms to block him but the impact broke through, launching him up at the ceiling on the top level. The air was knocked out of him although a blue curiass now covered his torso. Before he could come off the ceiling, his opponent was already on him, firing spines out of his arms, stretching out to skewer him against the ceiling. Throwing his own hands out in front of him, Shingen formed a blue barrier wall large enough to stop the skewers. Then as he fell onto his own barrier, it disappeared into blue dust as Shingen lunged at his enemy with a lancelike extension from his right hand made up of magic.

There was a splash of black goo and the two fell at opposite sides of the chasm. As Shingen tried to catch his breath, the grinning monster opened it’s hands at it’s sides, chains falling to the ground off his body. He took one up and began to swing it as he walked around the edge of the chasm to where Shingen stood. Shingen walked in the same direction, encircling the open chasm. He clapped his hands together and pulled them apart to form a full length spear of energy like he had done before. The swinging of the chain began to take on a black color as the end amassed the large shape of a scythe’s blade.

The two then threw themselves at each other at the center, blue and black specks flashing at the point of impact. The shaving off of blue magic flashed a light alike a spark while the black goo simply splintered outwards at the walls. They would cross the chasm time and time again. Each time, meeting in the air. The beast would swing his large kusari gama in circular motions high and low, making Shingen duck back from the highs and parry away the lows. Then, another sweeping low swing came and Shingen jumped into a spin, lunging the spear at him at the end. The man threw up the back of the chain, spinning it rapidly as to shield him from the lunge but as he was sent back a bit. He then brough back the front bladed end and spun around to bring it down onto Shingen’s head.

Jumped back, the scythe struck the ground and suddenly countless spines shout out from the ground out towards Shingen. Hopping back onto the wall, Shingen swiped some of them away but they weren’t stopping. He ran along the wall to avoid them, swatting them away as they came with his spear, once, twice, thrice then twice more. The chained beast doubled down, feeding into the ground that black goo that continued to fire up black spines on his location. Shingen would jump, run and slide, moving up along the walls and around the room as he dodged the skewers. Turning in the air, he could feel them moving the air nearby, only barely missing him.

The entire building was trembling. The walls shook with the impact of the spines. The battle ensuing was further destabilizing the foundations of the already crumbling building. Dust and various sized debris fell from the broken walls. There was no telling how long the two passages out of the building would remain open. Even they began to lose integrity as they had been created through brute force without accounting for structural load. The survivors who had escaped along with the onlookers from the outside stared on with confusion and fear. They didn’t know what was happening and if they were safe where they stood. Some began to leave and gain more distance as the building seemed to want to erupt.

At this point, Shingen’s ingested strength was beginning to wane. He would form large rectangular pillars above and send them below, trying to crush the beast but as he did, the monster would swat them aside with his chains. Although it seemed pointless, he continued to send them down, knowing his strength was reaching an end and perhaps reinforcements could arrive to help in time. With each attack, however, the beast seemed to grow in size now. It was not being pinned down but instead was growing his size by absorbing the pooling goo around him. This isn’t going to be enough. I’ve got no choice. I’ll have to open the gate. As the beast grew larger than the chasm was deep, Shingen made two different hand signs and closed his eyes. His abdomen began to burn and he let out a painful cry.

The seal at his core was activating and he could feel his life force draining from him. It was a sickening feeling that he could only describe as what it feels like to have his life slipping from him. At the same time that this was occurring however, he could feel a great physical and magical conversion. The illness in his stomach was quickly becoming his strength and like a rushing river, it converged on him. Opening his now shining eyes, Shingen threw his hands out at his sides then at the beast, countless of rectangular prisms the size of swords forming in the air and firing themselves at him.

They did not stop as Shingen poured out his power into the attack. Hundreds began to fall down on him like a meteor shower, peppering the monster all along his body, tearing down through him. With the swiftness of a machine gun, they shot down. Although the beast still stood tall, he tried to swat them all away and even laughed as if they tickled him, only tearing away the black goo from his body to the ground. ”Annoying as you are, you’re still just a mosquito” He thundered mockingly. But as the attack went on, the small pillars were forming a circle around the tall beast. Shingen then began to bring his hands together, concentrating his attack in a spiral around him when he suddenly brough his hands together.

Eight quick hand signs in violent succession were made. Maeda-style Sealing Technique! Sacred Coffin! Shingen’s hands ended together with fingers pointed but interlaced. He quickly then swiped something out from his pocket and threw it at the beast. The grin of the beast suddenly turned to a frown as the single bamboo stick from before sailed through the air, blue walls forming up and around the monster. The stick lodged itself in the beast’s chest as a multiple layered tesseract encased him. It began to shrink, threatening to crush him. He writhed and resisted but after a few moments of shrinking smaller and smaller, winds converged on the stick. And with a loud snap, he was gone.

Shingen fell unconscious down into the chasm below, the rock candy stick right beside him.

Édouard could only smirk at Aella’s comment. But, when she turned to the other man for suggestions on escaping it became apparent that things were still not going well. Beyond the man the inky black substance had begun coalesce in a single place and take the form of a man. He couldn’t help but stare at it for a moment before the man’s voice snapped him back to the present. Édouard turned and looked at Aella and her attempts to pull Zen around. It was clear this wasn’t going to work. He glanced around quickly as the BoM man and the black tar began fighting. There was a thunderous noise from above them back in the room that used to house the exhibit. The rumble that resonated from deep within the walls and floor gave him concern. Who knew how well this place would withstand a fight?

He crouched down grabbing onto this Zen characters’ arm and pulling his mass over onto his own back. “Up is the only way out. Preferably away from what’s going on up there.” He half-looked over his shoulder a bit, straining to see if he could see any more of the fight. Then he began rising off the ground slowly. Zen was, in fact, heavier than he’d assumed. He wasn’t too heavy for Édouard to lift by any stretch but moving the golem around certainly was going to be cumbersome. He let his icy eyes examine the debris wall in front of them to see what would be the best way up. He let out a grunt as he adjusted Zen’s bulk and contemplated things.

As Shingen and the thing were fighting, he made sure to try not to get distracted by it. At last, he realized that he would have to cheat a bit. Aella was right there but she might not understand what was happening. He raised a leg and stomped it into the wall of rubble firmly. As she leaned forward on the leg, there was a sudden rush of wind that kicked up more dust and small bits of ceramic and tiling. With any luck, Aella wouldn’t have any idea where it came from and he hoped she’d attribute it to the battle going on near them. He could feel the force pushing himself up, the weight of Zen’s unconscious body seemed to ease enough to scale the debris wall without too much effort.

Finally, he launched himself up, bounding a couple feet further up the face. His other foot came down and pushed into the rubble as he used it to push off for another jump. He probably could have just gone straight up to the main floor in a single shot hell; he probably could have just floated up there. But if he jumped up the side, his witness might think this was part of the strength he’d displayed a few moments earlier. At least he made it over the edge and landed on the floor. He leaned forward and let Zen roll off of him with a heavy thud. He stood up straight letting out a sigh as he adjusted his shirt. Édouard moved back toward the edge to tell Aella to start climbing but found his attention being drawn to the fighting.

The figure formed from the black goo had a scythe, and it attempted to bring the blade down upon the other man. It missed but the blade hit the ground and everything started shaking. Numerous spine-like protrusions were now shooting out of the floor in an attempt to impale the man. Édouard hissed a bit knowing that any second now his little plan to cover his tracks would backfire in his face and bury all of them alive. He leaned over the side and glared down at Aella. “Hurry up, this place isn’t going to take much more of this!” he barked as he turned his attention back to Zen. He did a quick check to make sure the exits in the wall the BoM man made were still open and luck would have it they were…for now. Édouard grabbed the golem once again and began making his way toward the nearest opening. Once he was outside and safe enough away from the museum, he’d dump Aella’s stony boyfriend off and make a discreet exit from the area. He’d worry about if his two companions made it after he was away with his prizes. He stopped at the opening of the tunnel bored into the museum’s wall. He turned around to make sure Aella was coming. It’d be awkward if he rescued her stone-man only for her to be trapped a collapse. Zen would never know and he’d never say anything to anyone, but it would be sort of a waste of effort.
