	Katranak's singular focus on training was, to her, anything but boring. Every opponent was different, every time she learned something new, and every battle brought her that much closer to following the path laid out by her mother. She had to catch up so she could outcompete and so far, nothing else and nobody else had drawn her attention away from it. Utsaha was not so single-minded, though, and was sitting today's training out. Off somewhere with the other jackals, Kat supposed. The dark lion was in the training ground, stretching out and waiting for a challenger. She wasn't the only one who spent most of their free time around here and every once in a while it was a surprise to find out who else had been watching for a while, or who she had been watching that finally stumbled her way..

	Huoxin hadn't been to the training grounds in quite some time. A large part of her had missed it, but attempting to be dutiful in her duties outside of normal training regimen had proven to be somewhat difficult for her. A fresh start was in order, and so she found herself here, looking for a challenger. She wasn't sure if she was up to winning, as rusty as she was, but she wanted something fun to learn from. "Hello!" the soldier greeted the darker striped lioness, offering a polite nod at a respectable distance away. "Would you care to spar? I would like to shake off this rust that has clung to my fur for too long."

	Move 1/5: Hit! Total: 3 Katranak watched as a vaugely familiar lioness approached and offered a friendly challenge. She was older than mother, though not by much.. and the fact she wasn't specifically familiar suggested she wasn't known for her skill, but Kat couldn't trust that assumption. There were too many good soldiers to take any of those she hadn't fought before lightly, and experience came with age so there was certain to be something surprising in the bright red stranger. "Of course," Kat responded, already stalking back and forth as if she was looking for an opening. She didn't wait long, though, and lunged forward, paws out, and ready to see how Huoxin reacted.

	Move: Hit Total: 3 Huoxin was thrilled that her challenge was accepted. At times one could find more rude or blunt sparring partners, but her current opponent seemed courteous enough. She would get a better sense of her character through this battle. "Kindly accepted," Huoxin said, before bluntly taking the blow, offering her own counterattack in return. A solid smile creeped up on her face as she felt it land.

	Move 2/5: Hit! Total: 6 Katranak had a bad habit of letting herself get too pleased about a successful first blow, and yet again it got her and she cursed herself under her breath but let out a laugh. "Rusty, you say?" she said, leaning into the blow from her opponent and striking back immediately. So her opponent was indeed a skilled fighter, and assuming it wasn't a trick to claim to be out of practice.. the skills were still there, so Katranak would have to use stamina against her. A difficult task considering spars were often decided quite quickly -- but another successful attack put her on the right track to finding the way to do it!

	Move: Glancing Blow Total: 5 To have a second solid blow hit her was something that Huoxin hadn't fully expected. She knew that she was rusty, but it was easy to convince herself that it was all in her head. "A good hit," she commented. To actually feel that second blow took a bit of the wind out of her lungs, and she gave herself a prolonged moment on her paws to gather up her wits before attempting a second blow. She could tell immediately that it wasn't a good hit, but the older lioness would take what she could get.

	Move 3/5: Glancing Blow! Total: 8 Another hit for Katranak and a near miss for her opponent. It wasn't a sure thing but it looked like stamina would be her best bet for winning this round. So, tempting as it was to slow down and look for an opportunity, she had to go for the quick-thinking, obvious attempts to keep things going at a pace that could tire out the older lioness faster. But then Kat barely struck and she realized maybe it wasn't going to be that simple. "Good dodge," she returned.

	Move: Miss! Total: 6 Huoxin was already beginning to feel herself tire, desperately wanting to ignore it and continue throwing herself into the sparring match. She wasn't able to dodge the next mark completely, and felt the contact hit. Hoping to continue up the momentum, the lioness shot her own paw out, expecting to feel fur but felt only the air instead. Thrown a bit off balance from the unexpected miss, she felt herself slip towards the sand. her shoulder made contact with the ground, and her other three limbs were scrambling to get herself upright before her opponent could take advantage of that lapse in defense.

	Move 4/5: Glancing Blow! Total: 10 Kat had barely complimented Huoxin's evasion before showing her own off, and it was enough this time to have the other lioness nearly hit the sand. Katranak had to jump back to avoid getting tangled up in the scramble to get back up, and by the time she reached out to take advantage of the opportunity.. Huoxin was just out of the way. She was fast despite the near fall, not bad. They had both started strong and now they were reduced to barely getting a claw on each other. It could go on like this for a while, Kat had to find a way to wrap this up before she stumbled, too. Hmmm...

	Move: Glancing Blow Total: 8 Huoxin was blessed with the satisfaction that she could get herself up rather quickly after that stumble; she knew that she was rusty, but at least she wasn't as bad as she had worried. "Well, a blow is a blow," she agreed, grateful that at least her opponent managed to not take full advantage of her tumble. She twisted her body enough to avoid the worst of the strike, and used that recovery angle to attempt her own return strike. She could feel just the brush of paw against body, but at least it wasn't a miss like her last attempt.

	Move 5/5: Miss?! Total: 11 While watching for her chance to end the fight, Katranak nearly missed the paw coming right at her. She dodged, but barely, and backed up to give herself some space to act. For someone claiming to be rusty, she was keeping up well. Not taking the lead but certainly not a sure loss, it would be close. So that meant.. Kat only had one chance to make sure it wasn't a draw. She took a deep breath and lunged forward-- and she completely missed her mark, but how Huoxin responded would determine the result. It would be over in a flash..

	Move: Glancing Blow Total: 10 She could also tell that the end of the sparring match was coming. She was tired, and felt like she had learned what she could have in this fight. At least, that she had gleaned enough to know that she once again needed to spend more time here. And yet... her opponent missed! Huoxin used this opportunity to try and even out this match, but as she felt herself reach out to strike, her fatigue was blatantly catching up with her. She felt another half-hearted blow hit, but it wasn't enough to really be anything other than a tap. "Well done," she replied, picking herself up after realizing her loss.

	Outcome: 11-10, Katranak wins! Katranak froze when she felt another mere tap from her opponent, about to reach out in instinctive retaliation until suddenly her opponent conceded. It had been close but still clearly in favour of the younger lion, so it was simple to accept the victory. Still, it wasn't the most satisfying kind. "You too," she said, relaxing the tension in her body and stretching the stiffness back out of her legs, "I hope it helped shake the dust off." Hmm. She looked Huoxin up and down, wondering if this was just a test to see how much had been lost over time or if she was genuinely interested in improving once again. It didn't matter much to her, of course, so she simply shrugged and offered a smile. If that was the performance of an out of practice lioness, she had a lot of potential to be a valuable training partner. "I'm Katranak, by the way," she said, "Come back anytime, I'm usually around here." Fin!
