It was an unusual feeling to return to a pack that she was still unfamiliar with, but held some high ranking regardless. She met one of the scouts at the border with a slight bow of her head, only to receive a curt nod in response. It wasn't outright rude behavior, but Praise the Light could read between the lines. Respect had cautiously been given, but not many seemed to actually like her. Hemlock Holms was... fine. They had gotten along during their journey, and she hoped that his ascension to the rank of Ambassador would help ease the heavy scrutiny on her actions.

She was the granddaughter of the pack's Alpha, though not the only one. Her twin remained in her mother's pack, The Coven of the Pale Raven. Praise the Light had returned home with her father to the Swamplurkers. Both of them acted as a necessary bridge between the two packs, and so far the relationship between the two were good. Praise the Light would not mess that up, and so she shrugged off the sharp looks sent her direction, the whispers behind her back.

Praise the Light needed to report back to her grandfather, though the trip had been more for her pleasure and served as an introduction to the role of Ambassador for Hemlock Holms. She felt anxiety twisting in her stomach - the Coven was a pack she knew well and was comfortable in, but the Swamplurkers were still nearly unknown to her. They were of a completely different spirituality, and their lives revolved constantly around it. She found talking with the pack a stressful game of picking up the lingo and deftly dodging social blunders.

At times it was exhilarating. Other times it was just plain exhausting.

"Just get it over with," she whispered to herself with a soft sigh. Her entourage had departed, and Praise the Light was left alone to make her way back into the heart of the pack.

          ((final word count: 1242))

Heart Breaker roamed through the pack after he had just seen his mother returning from the borders. With a quick conversation with her, he started to walk around aimlessly in the pack, looking at how things had changed since his pup years. He had been raised on the outskirts of the pack with his mom and she always had ambitions for him to join, but Breaker had other plans when he reached the age to explore on his own.

He had taken a year to explore the large world of Kells, even making it to the Redwoods and meeting a nice wolf, but he knew something was missing, his family. He knew his mom was in the pack but his dad, he had no idea where he could find him. He was even unsure he knew of his existence.

          Well, sucks for him then.

With a cocked grin he started to look around at wolves he remembered and ones he did not know. He knew he was hoping to move up in ranks within the pack to make his mom and her sisters proud, but it was proving to be more difficult then he had hoped but what he did know what with moving up sometimes required knowing others, and luckily for Breaker, he was a very personable wolf, quite like his aunt.

With his head held high, probably too high for just a hunter, he started to quick side smiles and nods to wolves that crossed his path. He would ensure that most knew his name.

It figured that the first wolf she stumbled across outside of her own travelling party was one she did not recognize. Praise the Light was familiar with some of the more prolific families, but even then she still struggled to remember all of their names. She would have to do better. The female smiled at Heart Breaker, stoutly refusing to acknowledge that she had no information about this wolf. His name and rank were a mystery to her, and like a majority of the pack his coat was dark. The paler markings on his coat were not quite pale enough to be considered spirit-touch - too cream rather than white.

So, it was unlikely he was a part of the Runnel, then. Not impossible, but unlikely. That would hopefully be enough information to get her through a quick conversation with the young male without triggering any severe social blunders. She might even be fortunate enough to get by with a quick 'hello', since he seemed to be on the move.

Praise the Light also had a report to make, so if worst came to be she could use that as a convenient excuse to get her out of an uncomfortable conversation. "Good day," she greeted Heart Breaker with a brief nod of her head. She could have said numerous other things such as 'the spirits whims are favorable' or some other romanticized saying, but she had a hard time believing in them. It was easier to avoid the subject than lie about her beliefs.

As Breaker made his way through, he noticed a female wolf heading his way who appeared to be in a hurry. This triggered him to spot on that she might be of higher rank, especially with the pure white that littered her coat color. He was still getting used to the standards that the pack adhered to. He remembered that his other had talked about it slightly, but the year or so that Heart Breaker had strayed away from Swamp Lurkers searching for anything and everything, he had somewhat forgotten and had to have his mother explain some things.

One thing he did remember was that white-colored wolves were often spirit-touched and usually were held on to a different standard. Thinking that she was a higher-up in the ranks, he was stunned when she had spoken a few words in her direction.

With a shocked look, he calmed himself down and nodded back, "The day is better now." Stopping to turn his body to face the female wolf, he side nodded and decided that was not the best thing to say to another wolf in the pack. He was still trying to adhere to pack life and not rogue life of flirting and adventure. Rethinking his strategy, he nodded again, keeping his head a bit low. "Good day to you as well."

He was not sure where to go from here. She appeared to be in a hurry as well and did not think that he should take much for her time, but if he could gain a friend in the pack, that would make his life here a bit easier.

"Ah," she answered with a slight lift of her brow. His initial, more flirtatious response evidently would not take him far with Praise the Light. She was aware that the pack was a little... more free-spirited than she had grown up around. Her aunt had two suitors that were equally valued, and she still found herself a little scandalized by that information. Praise the Light was not interested in following those footsteps - she was far more focused on building the relationship between the Swamplurkers and the Coven.

She was relieved that he seemed to retract his own words, or at least approach her in a more suitable manner. He was different than what she was used to, where words were chosen carefully and thoughts kept close to heart. Most of the pack was... different. Praise the Light was not sure she would ever fit in, but she had her father here to guide her. His blood in her veins was the strength she needed to be a Swamplurker.

"Thank you." Her words were crisp and clean, but she naturally gave off an unapproachable vibe. "I have only just returned from my trip," she informed him, expecting that he knew who she was and what her role in the pack entailed. Her arrival to the Swamplurkers had caused quite the stir, bringing about a new rank within the pack to accommodate the need to build alliances outside of the pack. Praise the Light was terribly young for the responsibility, and many did not agree with her small rise to power.

She was a lovely source of gossip, and so she expected that most knew her even if she did not know them. "Have you seen the Alpha? I am on my way to report to him."

As Heart Breaker listened to her words, they struck him as a bit odd. Seeing others through his peripherals, he noticed that her presence had caused a bit of commotion and it somewhat made him feel out of place. He was not sure if she was welcomed or she was just well known. He made it a priority to ensure that he figured out who she was. He was sure that when he found her name out that he would know exactly who she was. He listened to her intently, making sure to keep his distance from her.

Being on his own for a while, he knew how to read body language quite well, and could tell that she was in a rush and he did not want to take up much of her time. "Your trip? Hopefully, it was an uneventful one, in the best of ways." He honestly did mean that. He knew how life was outside of the pack's boundaries and while some days were uneventful, other days were ones of him fighting for his life.

"I apologize, ma'am." he added at the end. If she was looking for the alpha, he was for sure in the presence is someone higher up, and now looking at her, he was started to recognize her. If she was who Breaker thought she was, it would be smart of him to become acquaintances. Being a hunter, for the time being, he was hoping to potentially become a scout to escort others to the pack lands. "However if I see him, I will ensure to let em know, Ms..." He trailed off into a question.

At this time, if she would answer, he would surely know who she was. Looking at her, he took a slight step back and relaxed his position.

"It was eventful just enough," she answered with a wry smile. Most of the pack knew of the fledgling bond between the Swamplurkers and the Coven of the Pale Raven, but she was not about to divulge details to someone who she did not recall by name. The information was relatively harmless, but she would not be such a fool to share it easily. "Regardless, it was good to be home for a bit." The words slipped from her mouth before she realized her blunder, and she pressed her lips into a thin line of disapproval over her own words. Right, this was her home now.

It still didn't feel like it.

She pulled herself from her thoughts, lest she become lost in them while trying to carry a conversation with a fellow pack member. Being called 'ma'am' amused her, and the slightest hint of a smile graced her features. Though, she did hope that it did not become a habit for others to call her as such. It occurred to her then, that not unlike herself, he did not know his conversation partner as well as one would assume.

Praise the Light felt a little better about not knowing his name, but she also refused to lay such obvious bait to try and get it. "Praise the Light. Don't worry if you have not seen him yet, by the time you actually do I will probably have already found him myself. I just figured it would save me some time if you knew his location already." Her name was a bit of a mouthful. Most wolves would have donned a nickname by now, but she was not comfortable with the familiarity of it... being called something informal.

"If I am lucky he will be at his den with the rest of the family." She did hate doing debriefings in the presence of others, however... and she still felt a little out of place among her new family.

Praise the Light? He had heard that name before and he now knew who he was in the presence of. Feeling somewhat ashamed that he did not place her, yet knowing he had never met her nor had he been told what she looked like. She was absolutely a looker, one that Heart Breaker would have gone after her in the wild, but unfortunately, in this new pack-life, he had to understand when and where to hold his tongue. Plus, he was still dealing with his demons, demons he was not willing to talk about with anyone. He did notice the slight smile that broke over her muzzle, being called ma'am sure did make her happy.

"Well... Praise the Light." She had a beautiful name, one better than his own which his why he had to abbreviate it to his nickname as Breaker. Many always turned a grin or a grimace when they heard his name was Heart Breaker. Finding himself in his thoughts as well, he pulled himself away, looking back at her.

"I'm glad you have made it home safely." He knew that she was an ambassador, and those chosen to forge alliances with other packs were held on a pedestal, at least in his eyes. He was hoping, as his ascent to Scout, that he would eventually be asked to accompany the ambassadors to other territories. He already had quite some time exploring the forest and the boundaries of the redwoods and might become an asset to the trip.

Well, if I'm going to shoot my shot, I better just go for it.

With either bravery or stupidity, he spoke up. "Perhaps next time, I could accompany you.. or another ambassador on a trip to another pack's land. I took a year and traveled on my own before returning here." He figured now was like any time to stand up to show he was willing to move up in the ranks, but he would soon have to make his trip to become a scout. Quickly he added, "I'm still trying to make this place feel like home."

He was unsure why he was divulging this information to her, maybe cause she was the first wolf that had stopped and even said words to him instead of just walking by.

          "Well, anyways, safe travels ma'am."

He was unsure if she was in a hurry to make her way over to the alpha, or if she was interested in a continued conversation.

"I would pity the creature who tried to mess with a child of the Coven and the Swamp," she replied with a wry smile. Angering a pack as large as the Swamplurkers and a pack with a handful of powerful seers seemed like a terrible mistake for an individual to make. Even if she could handle herself, she never traveled alone now. Her last party had been especially large, considering she had brought along Hemlock Holms for his apprenticeship. She was... vaguely confident that he would not screw anything up if sent on his own next time.

Praise the Light arched a brow, not expecting to be propositioned so boldly by the young male wolf. It was certainly a bold statement to make and she could admire the bravery it took to make it. She pressed her tongue against the roof of her mouth as she thought how to respond to his request. It was not her place to approve of disapprove of the idea, but how to speak such a thing kindly? "Perhaps," she agreed. "I would take the request to the Alpha if I were you. I can always put in a good word, but I know the kind of wolf my grandfather is, and he shows a great deal of respect to those who approach him with confidence." It was the best advice she could give him, and hoped that he did not take her words poorly.

"Yes, I hope my path continues to be fortuitous." It sounded as close to a dismissal as she was likely to get, and she could not imagine herself making it through too much more conversation without exposing the truth that she did not even know who this wolf was.

"Farewell, I am sure I will see you again," she concluded with a slight bow of her head, enough to be respectful but not nearly enough to show deference to him. Then, the young ambassador turned away to find her grandfather and finally deliver her report.
