It had been a long time since the sandstorm that nearly chased the Firekin out of their home. Too long, Adanna thought, as she wandered out into the desert. She was about half a day's walk to the Northern Outpost when she started slowing down and started combing through the dunes, looking for a landmark she had seen in a dream, one that told her that the Goddess would be returning soon. Hopefully she wasn't too soon, it could be a long wait if her gut feeling was wrong and it was too long a walk back to risk staying out in the wastes alone and waiting.

Of course, she knew she was being followed, too. Her nosy, eager children were waiting for this day, too. Which ones would show up was yet uncertain but they would no doubt catch up to her as her course changed to scouting from travel.

She stood silently in place for a while, closing her eyes and feeling the wind around her. This was the right spot, more or less. The nearby mountainous area between the pridal land and the outpost was nearby and the angle seemed right. Now she would just wait to see who showed up first.

Ashwathi couldn't help herself; she followed after her mother. It wasn't out of a feeling of clinginess, but moreso curiosity. She knew that her mother was very independent, and there were many times where it didn't seem like it would lead to much if she followed her mother. Yet... today felt a bit different.

There were too much strangeness around, and Ash did not feel terribly comfortable with her mother running off. Not on her own. So she followed. She wasn't terribly quiet in doing so, but at least it seemed like her mother was humoring her, even with the distance between them.

And then her mother stopped. It made Ash stop too, and she wanted to see what happened. But....nothing...

"Mother?" she called out a bit softly, not wanting to disturb her too much.

Adanna turned to see the daughter most like her standing nearby, and she wasn't particularly surprised.. though she was surprised to see her alone. She actually offered Ashwathi a smile and gestured for her to come over and join her, and finally she sat down in the sand.

"Come to wait with me, have you?" she said, "I think she's finally coming back today, we wouldn't want to miss the chance to welcome her, now.."

She almost sounded sincere. Adanna's feelings about her mother were complicated, it affected the kind of parent she was to her children. She did her best not to play favorites, she made sure they knew they were loved and trusted, and she watched them proudly as they started their own lives in the ranks of the Motoujamii. None of those were things she had thought she had from Ayira, but she was starting to wonder..

Ashwathi bobbed her head for a moment, glancing around her mother's area before approaching and sitting next to her. "Well, to be frank, I was a touch worried when you left on your own. I didn't hide much from following you, but..."

Ash let the sentence fall, not sure what her true intentions were. Selfishly spending time with her mother? Or just wanting an excuse to stray from her own duties, even if just for a few ticks of the day.

"Well, I can wait here with you, if you would like." She wasn't sure what else to say; her mother was someone that she cherished, but also was a source of mystery too. In a strange way, as a child never saw the full other side of their parent.... the role of parent played too heavily in Ash's mind.

"Do you think your Uncle will show up at the last second? He has a strange habit of just knowing things," Adanna said, glancing over to her daughter and realizing there was no point pretending that wasn't also true of the two of them, "Well, he never seems fussed about it and yet he still shows up so often."

Adeyemi had been a surprisingly good uncle, Adanna wondered if having nieces and nephews had softened something in him.. but he really was still the same gruff, strange fellow he had always been. Just had enjoyed having a small army of lions who seemed to look up to him.

She scanned the horizon, wondering if he just might appear.

To others it may seem unnerving that her uncle would just materialize right when he was needed; or to know where he should be when something went awry. As Ashwathi breathed, she never questioned his talents in being so intuitive. It just was. "He may," she mused for a moment, picking at a stone that was protruding from the sand. "Or he may know to stay away, just for once."

Though, when did one stay away when their curiosity could be filled?

"Perhaps he is off with one of the others; not everyone is keen at staying out of trouble." A trait well shared by a good number of the Motoujamii, if Ash would be honest with herself.

Right now, Adeyemi's laidback and smug attitude was enviable, but Adanna just couldn't have the same careless confidence. Change was inevitable, she'd been through plenty of it, and she knew enough of the future but there was no way to be sure what was going to happen next..

"Ash," she said, glancing at her daughter and then looking straight ahead again, "God's blood can be a blessing or a curse, I don't know what's going to happened next. If the Motoujamii can really accept a god, especially one that is not Finar-si.. I just don't know. But we won't be able to deny our connection to her."

The Hongshan would know, if they didn't realize already.

"Mmmm."

Ashwathi was tossing around her mother's words, the warning reverberating within her soul. She did not understand the god's blood that thrummed within her body, nor how it was something she could use for the greater good. A power that was not terrible strong within her, but she did have a strength that she knew could be improved upon if she rose to the task.

"It will be curious to see if they question my loyalty, as this is my homeland. Do you expect retort? Rebellion?" Though she had her siblings were strong, they were but a couple twigs in a windstorm; too few to be of any strength against many.

"The history of the Motoujamii is complicated, you know the stories of the Simo and Safi but I don't think that conflict ever died, it just quieted down," she said thoughtfully, "We'll be finding out if the Safi can accept another god at the same time we find out if the Simo will accept any god, it could end up being the one thing that truly unites them."

If Adanna, Adeyemi and their family had to turn against Ayira, would they? When she really asked herself that, there didn't seem to be any question. Ayira valued survival more than loyalty, she proved that when she fled the Hongshan. The right answer was not to die for her but to survive despite her.

"Of course, it may depend on what Mother does."

Just as Adanna said the words, a hawk appeared on the horizon, travelling at an unusual speed and growing to an unusual size as it came closer. Eventually, it landed atop the mountains Adanna had sat facing and the form changed into that of a winged lioness.

Ayira was home.

"Yes," Ash nodded. She had heard stories, some anecdotes, some personal. It was a history that seemed final and well in the past, and not an issue that may suddenly revive itself like a curse. She only could hope for the best in this situation, and would do her part to asset that survival among all was the key goal.

And, as her mother's keen intuition revealed itself again, their visitor had arrived. She took a step forward, her blank fire marked foreleg pushed outwards as she offered her a small bow.

"Welcome, Grandmother."
