 The Redwoods weren't particularly welcoming when it came to trees. They were near dead, mostly leafless and rather stark in appearance. Hel supposed once they might have been proud and strong trees with a lush canopy above, but time had seen to that. As she wandered the thick, barren trunks she supposed it served a reminder to all that you weren't invincible and some day you would end up like these trees. Old, cold, and alone while somehow still making up a forest.
Hel didn't like to dwell on dour thoughts for long, though, so she quickly shifted gears and began to chase a rather pretty leaf that was blowing about in the very slight breeze that carried through the mostly bare branches above her head. She pounced and missed (on purpose, leafs were hard to play with), letting her temporary friend flutter ahead of her again.
"Little sneak," she accused playfully as she lowered her front end, paws outstretched before her, rear end high in the air, tail a-wiggle. "I'm gonna get you!" She pounced again, this time pinning the leaf between her paw and the ground even as the wind picked up again to try to take it away.

Sly had a pretty good lot in life as far as he was concerned. Was he a flashy coon? Nah, and it was perfect for him not to be. He could skitter around and look as harmless and practically camouflaged as he pleased so long as he didn't open his big mouth.
Except Sly liked to open his big mouth.
So, for instance, as he lounged on his break from the tribe in a tree sporting fruit, lazing away in the shade and nibbling on a particularly juicy paw-full of berries, he could have kept quiet. He could have simply allowed the wolfdog gamboling about closer and closer to go about her day without further interruption. But Sly was in a good mood, which was to say he was in a capricious one. And that meant sticking his snout into a stranger's business for the hell of it.
"Nice one!" he called, shifting just so that he could lie along the branch, propping his head on his free paw. The raccoon licked his lips. "Dastardly things, these leaves, y'see. Think they can just go whatever color they want and not get caught. You showed 'em, yes you did, miss. Soon we will rule the trees!"

Hel's ears pricked up and her fluffy tail went stiff as a voice came from up in the trees, startling her just a bit. She looked around with wide eyes as she tried to pinpoint the source and when she finally saw the masked face of a raccoon her body relaxed. Fluffy tail a-wagging, Hel grinned up at her audience as he applauded her performance.
"Why thank you!" she said, dipping into a little bow. "Yes, if they'd just stay up on the branches they wouldn't be so much trouble," she added, playing along with his little game. It was so much nicer to have someone to talk to even if it was a silly topic.
"You're setting a pretty good example for them," Hel giggled as she lifted up from her bow, gazing down at the red and orange leaf pinned between one paw and the dirt. "You see?" she said, speaking to the leaf. "Maybe if you behaved like this nice raccoon you wouldn't be in the situation you're in now!"
She lifted her paw and let the breeze take the leaf away, more interested in the potential friend up on the tree branch than the temporary one on the ground. Fixing her bright gaze up towards him once more, she cocked her head to the side and gave him a friendly smile.
"If we're to rule the trees together we should probably know each other's names at least! I'm Hel."
