When Veikel was taught how to knit, idly and in passing by an elderly rider with too much free time and a sore back that needed a special ointment, he never thought he'd enjoy it as much as he did. In fact it was safe to say he was mildly obsessed over it as he spent any moment he wasn't working at his actual craft to work at this side craft. Getting the materials he needed had been easy, as he wasn't exactly the type to spend his marks recklessly anyway, and so small projects turned into larger ones which turned into something akin to a problem.

After completely drowning his family in various knit goods, the journeyman healer decided to turn his attentions towards others that he knew. Others who had been kind to him and likely wouldn't throw gifts back in his face (literally and figuratively). So he started on a sweater with someone in mind, a face he hadn't seen in a bit through no fault of the young man's own. A young man who also had a dragon (he could maybe knit a neckwarmer?) and well. Hmm.

A couple of months passed with him working quietly, happily, and eventually the final products were complete. It seemed just in time too, with the cold winter weather at hand, and so the healer set out to find his rider friend. It shouldn't be hard considering he saw the pair only a few days ago, but then again for Veikel "a few days" could also translate to "six months".

He tended to zone out while he worked.

It was the western continent, by far it was far warmer than the one he had grown up on and he could honestly remember a more biting cold, but Liaven despised cold. Of any sort. His jacket with it's huge hood and the mask over his face that was more a habit at this point than for any medical reason that used to exist, made it so that he was just a walking bundle. Which to Sarbath was both annoying and incredibly amusing. She would take her turns at poking him with her nose, chirping and bugling about as she hopped on her awkwardly short front legs.

Liaven was absolutely not amused.

Fluffing himself up just a bit he stuffed his notes down into one of the wide pockets he was thrilled to have with this particular riding jacket and cast a glare at the green. "You could just stay out here? And not follow me?"

Oh but where's the fun in that at all? Nope! I'll join you on this little trip. Let's be off! Sarbath bound in front of him, her wings tucked delicately around her sides so that she didn't disturb anything as they walked into the healers ward looking for something specific.

The object of his search came right on waltzing in, and Veikel's face lit up like a tree ablaze. A bright smile crossed over his face, and he waved his fingers down in an effort to get the rider's attention before using his name. "Liaven, over here!" In his arms he held two packages, one clearly larger than the other, and rather than waiting for his companion to walk over, the journeyman healer started towards him. "You must be a mind reader to come in today because I was just about to go looking for you."

The packages were held out towards the other man, Veikel's face still a large and messy smile. "These are for you and Sarbarth. Happy Turn's end, er, or...belated Turn's end?" Did he really need an excuse to give someone a gift? Probably, as most grown men didn't just go around handing things out to people. People who, really, were they even friends? They knew one another a bit more than to just be passing acquaintances, but.

It didn't matter, Veikel wasn't that deep of a thinker on things like this anyway.

In their interest of going to find some numbweed for the pull in Liaven's back, it was honestly any sort of miracle that the teen heard his name called at all. He was cold, in pain, and unamused with everything that was happening in the Weyr that day thanks to his aches. Such it was likely a good thing that his mask covered his face and left only his large sad looking eyes that always watched the world with such an attention to small things. Veikel didn't deserve the full extent of his grumpiness that was merely brought on by his pain and exhaustion. The last fall hadn't been kind yet he'd been unscathed beyond this.

We were lucky. Sarbath said soberly only to him, her exuberance all but exploded as Veikel held out packages that were clearly gifts though. Her whole body wiggled and it was only Liaven's arm bracing to keep her long tail from smacking into something that held off the inevitable crash of medicines and tools from the floor. In her wiggles she pressed her nose right to the healer's chest and oozed off a wave of happiness and joy to him, trying to pull her rider closer despite the wall of silence she was getting in response. You brought us presents for Turn's End? You remembered us Rock Man!

Oh yes, she remembered him and his strange rocks that she'd helped move once before. It had been a fun game while it lasted. The long green turned her head back towards Liaven and used her tail to somehow shuffle him forward. Please don't mind him, he's actually in some pain from the fall yesterday. We were coming here for numbweed for his back. Sarbath explained specifically to Veikel. However she turned more careful words upon Hers, I believe this was special, don't be rude because you're in pain. What were you taught?

Closing his eyes so they didn't give away his mood with their reaction to what his dragon had said to him, Liaven steeled himself and walked forward to take both packages from the smiling and happy man. Sarbath gave another wiggle of joy when he did so, her eyes turning bright purple from happiness. "Sorry, just stiff today. You didn't have to get us anything. Really." Never before had he received a gift from someone and the small teen wasn't sure how to repay it when he had nothing to offer up in return. "Did it set you far back in marks?" Though his voice was muffled behind his mask, it came out as gentle and concerned.

"Hahaha, it's wonderful to see you too Sarbath, though I wish it was in better context." He'd been happy to see the teen come in but finding out he was in because of pain and not just for walking around had Veikel's tune change somewhat. He still offered the wondrous green dragon an affectionate rub or two, hoping she could hear the delighted thumps of his heart from beneath the layers of clothing. When she turned away and Liaven moved forward, he sighed.
"The whole point of a gift is to not worry about the cost, you know, and even if it was I wouldn't tell you." He gross his arms now that they were free of their package, and motioned for the pair to open their presents.

"Go ahead and look them over, and while you do that I'll go fetch you some numbweed. It'll be from my personal stash so you don't need to worry about paying to replace the supply." He pointed between the rider and the dragon to stay put while he scampered off towards the back. As he moved away there was an audible pop as a firelizard came from Between, and the proud look on her face and in her eyes vanished once she figured out that Veikel was gone.

Several loud and unhappy cheeps were directed at the dragon riding pair, as if it was their fault that she'd failed to arrive and greet her bonded at that exact moment! How dare they, henk hwenk hwenk!!

A trilling thrum pulled from Sarbath when Veikel rubbed at her head, always quite amused by the healer who always seemed to have far more energy than her own mellow rider. It was all the more amusing to drag Liaven around by the nose to meet those that were fun, so that they could have fun. Today was a little less fun before this, but with the packages that her's was holding her curiosity helped the day to start getting better and she wiggled even as the healer walked away. He has a very good point, sometimes gifts are just that. There was a tone to her voice that made his eyes narrow just slightly.

"I suppose that's fair." Liaven said in his quiet voice, running his fingers along the edges of the packaging so that he could pull them apart, the largest of the two first since it seemed that was Sarbath's. Once her's was open then he could focus on whatever his was while she... well maybe that was a bad idea. Knowing the green she might get so excited that she'd start hopping around that would be the worst. It was only after a moment that his head snapped up from what he was doing when he realized that Veikel had wandered off to get him some numbweed. From his own supplies!

Don't focus on that, open those up! He said you wouldn't have to replace it or worry about it and he sounds as though he's super serious. Sooooo... Sarbath's head knocked at his hand gently. That would make all of us happy!

Resolute, Liaven ripped open the largest and found something that looked as though it had been knit by hand. One of his eyebrows lifted as he stretched it out and found that it was knit into a circle that was wide enough and stretchy enough that maybe just... the teen held it up for Sarbath who slid her head through it and immediately began to jitter in excitement. It's so beautiful! Did he make this himself!? Is yours the same? Open it! Open IT! Exactly what he was worried about happening began to as she whipped her tail in happiness, eyes whirling blues and purples of enjoyment. At least enjoyment until a very sqwaky fire lizard began to honk in her face with anger, leading to her head tilting as her body stilled.

"Look, you went and insulted her with your joy." Liaven was actually kidding, a rare occurance but to his luck his expression was hidden behind the mask.
