Permafrost was happy, completely and utterly happy. She lounged, tired, but content, at the farthest point in the back of the den where she'd been for a few weeks already. The rest of the pack knew that she neither wanted, nor needed them nearby at the moment, and they had thankfully given her space. Only an equally ecstatic Frost Shatter was allowed near and that was to ply Permafrost and the pups with snuggles and licks. He had been wonderfully attentive, though his alpha duties took him away from his mates' side now and then. Permafrost had been right in her prediction that the babes would come in the winter, during the largest storm so far this season. That had been three weeks ago - but the blistering winds and frigid temperatures still had Hornfels Hollow at its mercy. Luckily, the pack was fattened this year and no one had suffered from hunger as of yet, but most of the pack members were staying in the larger part of the den instead of venturing out. Permafrost could hear them now from where she lazed, and expected that Frosty was with them as she was alone with the pups at the moment. She gazed adoringly at the three small fluffs, before leaning over and licking the closest one, the only boy in the group.

Sundog, for she was kinda sure that's what her mam had called her, snuggled happily in the warmth around her. She loved being in this warm place, surrounded by fluff with only the occasional mewing of her siblings to wake her. And every now and then a large wet tongue would run itself over her fur. That was her mam, or her pa. She knew them both by scent, and more recently she'd seen them as well. Purple eyes had opened, and all she could think of her parents had been giant. They were the largest things she had ever seen, and she hoped that one day she to would be that large.

I have no idea why I started this when they are so young >.< But at three weeks the pups should just start learning to walk --- might be fun to do another pup RP after when they are older and already ambling about in late winter / spring too.

Whispered Dusk, she heard her ma speak that name for her she was certain, stretched herself out and lifted her head to yawn. She curled herself back up and cuddled more into the warmth beside her siblings and the fluff of her ma. Occasionally a tongue would run over her fur, and she was sure it was her ma or pa. She had learned to distinguish her parents by scent and could almost distinguish her siblings, though she wasn't quite sure how many of them there were.
Dusk had yet to open her eyes all the way and peer around at the world. Once in a while she half opened her eyes and glanced around, but everything was so much bigger than her, and it scared her a bit. She heard the mewling of one of her siblings, but paid no mind and buried her head into someone's fluffy side with a happy sigh.

User Image The first solid thought the pup had was: This is mine. Things would soon branch out from that singular truth, but he held onto that one for now in the same way he held onto his mother, and both would be nursed.

For what felt like forever, there had been something loud and howling beyond the wonderful softness and warmth. Melting Point, so named for the look of snowy streams forming down his neck and paws, hadn’t thought much of it until the noise was gone, as his limited attention had been diverted between suckling, sleeping, and being vaguely aware of four scents, one which came and went. But in the quiet, warmth, and care, he grew restless. He might not have been the first to open his eyes, but he was determined to be the first one to look around and see what else was his!

Feeling a tongue bathe him again, Melt squeaked a bark of defiance as he struggled to leave the circle of warm bodies. His little ears flopped as he did so. The rock floor was deeeefinitely different, though, and Melt stumbled over himself with a huff. “I’m ready!” he said despite his face plant, already trying to learn how legs worked. “M’good!”

"Yes you are my dear," Permafrost gently assured as she watched her little son struggle away from her attentions and try to work brand new legs. She didn't laugh at his wobbliness, although she wanted to from the sheer cuteness of him. She also didn't grab him back to her side despite her desire to. She would give Melting Point the space to learn how to get his footing by himself, and knew better than to belittle his efforts will he figured it out. Instead she turned her attentions to her daughters. Pondering them both a moment, she turned her tongue to the lighter of the two and proceeded to bath the little tyke, keeping an eye on Melting Point the whole time.

The tongue took Sundog by surprise as she'd been snuggled up next to her sister, and she yipped once in pure shock. But, having experienced it before, she soon relaxed into her mother's attentions. She had been on the verge of sleep before, but now she was waking up. Sleepy eyes peered around, snagging on the small form of a white marked pup wandering outside the range of their mam. Sundog blinked, but had no urge to follow them. She was content to stay still and observe from the warmth their mother was radiating. But it was interesting none-the-less to see what they were doing. Figuring her other sibling may also be interested, Sundog nudged them with a small paw. "Up!" She squeaked at them.

Frost Shatter loved the pack but he couldn't deny the urge that was constantly in the back of his mind screaming Puppies! Go to the puppies!. For the most part he could ignore it, but today, when the weather was bad and the the few members who had ventured out had already returned, there was very little use for his presence. Perhaps Polar Sun had realized this too because she'd given him the look. The look that told him she had everything more than handled (like usual) and that he should get back to his mate. That reassurance was all he needed to make his way back to his little darlings. Eagerly trotting to the back of the den, he only slowed when he was close. Thankfully, because low and behold, it seemed that one of the pups was making a grand escape. "Honey, it seems that we have a devious little pup to take care of!"
