It was admittedly quite strange.
When she froze, he froze. When she moved, he moved. It had become a dance that no one had agreed to and yet she was the assumed lead. For what it was worth, Byu never intended to follow her for as long as he did. The distraction was welcomed. The less he had to think, the better. But it just sort of happened. And then it just continued happening.
He was going nowhere fast, but she was leading him somewhere...
And when his nose was met with a surplus of markings, signifying some invisible threshold crossed, Byu's physical body stiffened. Instinct drove his toes into the soil but it took his mind a lot longer to catch up. She was leading him somewhere. No, she wasn't leading him... he was following her somewhere. Or did she know he was following all along?
Wait. Wait. Wait. Was she pride-born? Was this her pride? Oh Gods was she one of them? Whatever reason he had for remaining silent, and all the work he had done to cultivate that level of stealth was lost in an instant as his mouth fell ajar, allowing heavy breaths to release from his chest. Full of stress and active scenting, he couldn't be bothered to acknowledge how audible it was, not anymore. He sought for traces of familiarity... for signs of his captors. Desperate to find it now rather than later, over not finding it all. When none of those presented themselves, he scented for others within the immediate area. Males, females, it didn't matter. His experience with both had been violent and uncomfortable, he would never put anything past genders ever again.
But even in that, he seemed to come up empty-handed. Whether it was adrenaline or otherwise, Byu could not pick up on anything but the lioness before him, and all that was left to do was slump back onto his hind quarters. Defeated.
Their hold on him would never loosen. The Nergui were with him, haunting him, like ghosts. And now, to add on to the piling weight, he would have to confront the stranger he had been stalking for days.
She would have to be the one. His silence would hold fast. His eyes would remain trained to the earth between his forepaws. She would have to be the one to initiate while he sat, praying:
Here's hoping they'll put me to work, and then forget all about me.

The pale chevalier had taken up a post on the borders of the pride, the lonely expanse of the wilds giving him some space to think. The landscape was generally calm, and the sounds of the sea crashing against the shore could be heard for some distance, lending a calming hum to the background. It wasn’t too long ago that he had found himself here, walking aimlessly towards this place, not knowing what he would find or who he would meet. Not knowing how long he had travelled or from where he had started. He couldn’t even be sure why he was going anywhere at all, in the first place. Perhaps he hadn’t found his purpose yet. He wondered if he would even know it if he came across it.
He wasn’t terribly concerned or in a rush to find answers for the questions lingering in his head, but he didn’t deny that they were there. Just more background noise. It was a weird sort of comfort. Maybe he would one day move past them, like he had moved onward to this place. The male shrugged his shoulders, heaving a sigh as he stared at his paws, nails digging into the dirt. The smell of salty air was heavy in his breath, and he licked his lips anxiously, nose twitching against the pride’s scent. His green gaze drifted up as he made to survey the borders again, ears pressing forward through his minty mane to strain against the echoing sea.
Looking to his side, he caught the glimmer of pale pelts in the distance: two of them, moving in a staggered manner. Gaze narrowing, Nyaminyami stood from his spot and turned to make his way towards the newcomers, to head them off.
