Cavera was starting to perk up. She spent equal amounts awake as asleep again, instead of mostly asleep and wheezing so raspily. Her smiles were still weak, but they were there. Aviforth, though he was growing to a near too-big size, had always done his best to sleep at her side--press his nose into her hands for some reassurance. She was his everything, he would take her to the moons if it meant she would no longer be sick. Yet all he could do was slough through each day as it dragged by, listening intently to each breath. Breath meant she was okay, even if her rest meant their bond was quiet.
Yet as the weyrlings were herded out towards others of their class--the healthy pairs, and the candidates, Aviforth’s once bright, showy wings dragged against the ground. They felt heavy, as if lifting the massive fans were a great effort now--and it felt as such. His greying hide was filthy, and made it hard to sleep at night. Cavera had a soft habit of getting the barest specks of dirt long before Aviforth had registered them to be irritating--and why had he never noticed or appreciated it of her?
Was his ill manners the cause of her illness?
Did humans get sick if you didn’t say thank you enough???
But now he was filthy… With Cavera too ill to clean him. Food wasn’t hard to come by, for there was no shortage of hands trying to coax him to keep his strength up. Yet he was coming to understand that perhaps he should let someone clean him once again. With a clean hide and a full belly, that might show His that he was alright! She could focus on just feeling better.
Yet, who would he pick? Seems he was late to the latest wash and feed, but he needed to be bathed. Aviforth wandered until he found a candidate who seemed not too busy at the moment, and butted up against his leg. Excuse me, He all but creeled, looking up at the boy before nudging his knee oh-so gently. Do you think you could help me… Please? The mannerism is added on almost like an afterthought, because it very much was. Cavera had been trying to encourage him to ask politely for things before she had fallen sick.
