[PRP] Brighter Than the Sun (Nyekundu x Shahla)

A large yawn escaped the maw of the brightly-colored lion, signaling the end of a night asleep and the beginning of a new morning. Nyekundu rolled over and off the large rock atop which he had been sleeping, landing with a springiness on his four paws. The sun was still rising, but the flat lands Nyekundu currently occupied were brightly lit with sunshine. It was going to be a beautiful day, thought the lion, and he intended to take advantage of it.

Before he could venture off, he inched his front paws forward and stretched long and low, enjoying the feeling of shaking the sleep from his bones. He smiled as he leaned back, bringing his body back to an upright, standing position - stretching always felt so good.

Now that that was done, the lion glanced about a bit lazily. Food should be his first priority - he figured there would be some small game around here somewhere. He actually knew of a nearby lake that drew critters of all sizes - so he set off through the grass and the sparse trees to find the nearest body of water.

Ruler of Everything

Shahla had gotten up early, earlier than even Aki had- The lioness had felt the need to move around and prove her own self-worth and so she had ended up by the waters of a large lake. Would she be scolded by Aki for leaving without saying a word? Probably, but Shahla had finally started to turn a new leaf. Some said once you hit your middle-aged years you might change, whomever had said that had certainly been right. Her time wandering with Aki, strengthening herself and realizing her lover and pride were part of a past that was no longer a defining factor for who she was- That time, that energy. That was who she was now.

Dark blue eyes scanned the area, a few prey animals had been happily sipping at the water’s edge, however her presence had spooked them. Frowning, the petite lioness dipped her face in for a drink, eyes never leaving the surface of the water. One could never be sure if a log would grow teeth. The cool, murky water offered gentle soothing for her dry throat. Smiling, she lifted her head with satisfaction- Had her memory been better she’d have recognized the area as her old pride lands, but the scent of her family and the passage of time had changed it.

Deciding to wander through some tall grasses, Shahla paused as the sound of shuffling caught her attention- Had Aki already caught up to her? Craning her neck to see overtop of the tall grasses, dark blue eyes spotted a bright pink bobbing mane. Eyes widening, Shahla retreated back into the grasses, heart racing in panic. Did he see her?!

Nyekundu was happily, obliviously, trotting along when as he neared the lake he saw a flash of black and purple bolt into the tall grasses nearby. He stopped suddenly in his tracks, glancing about for some clarity. "Hello?" the large lion called, afraid to move forward in case he scared whomever was hiding deeper into the grass. "I mean no harm," he followed up. Before he received an answer, he decided to pad slowly towards the lake. He dipped his head down, taking gentle, deliberate laps of the water.

Once done, he turned his attention back to the grasses. He was determined to figure out who or what was hiding from him. He wasn't an unfriendly lion, after all, but his size could be a bit daunter, especially to smaller critters. But the figure he saw seemed near his own eyes - he'd wager a bet that it was another lion - but he really wouldn't know until they revealed themselves. Nyekundu walked slowly into the tall grass, determined to figure out this mystery.
