It had been a long day for Shar and Yulaniath, but it wasn't over yet. This morning had consisted of waking up early for the healers to clear her to leave their care where she'd been for three nights as they tried to get her wound to stop bleeding from the violent hatching. The sharp claws of Skerath had caught Shar on her legs and back as she had quickly tucked into the protective position that she'd been trained on since day one of her Candidacy, but there had been a lucky catch of one talon along her shin. It had split her skin wide open, right down to the bone, and although the slice had been gory it hadn't been particularly deep. It was difficult to keep from bleeding, though, as the area where she'd been cut was where the skin and bone were at their closest with no muscle between them at all, usually where bruises would form when scuffling about at night in the dark and banging your shin onto a coffee table. The talon had made the cut wide enough that her skin couldn't be properly sutured together, leaving her to wait for the wound to scab and start to stitch itself back up.

Her leg had passed inspection, though, which had set the new greenrider and her companion off to classes for the first time. It was exciting and there was so much to learn and do now that they'd shifted from Candidate to Junior Weyrling lessons, and on top of being forced to socialize with Ar'din and Alque and making sure to get two copies of everything for R'iz who was still with the healers, Shar barely had time to make a run back to her old dorm to grab her things. Most of the essentials had been brought to her new dormitory but there were a few little things that had been left behind that she needed.

Most of the other new riders were still out and about doing chores or interacting with their dragons and friends, but Shar and Yulan were on a mission. The tiny green carried a small satchel over her back for Shar full of light things that wouldn't weigh her down too much while Shar carried the books and other things that had been left behind. Their going was slow and Shar's gait was punctured with a rather awful limp, but the look on her face showed nothing but delight.

"It's going to be great sleeping with everyone tonight," she said as they made their way into the dormitory for the women. It made Yulan laugh softly, the noise echoing in Shar's head.

You? Excited to sleep with a bunch of people? That's a surprise.

"I meant more that it's great to be out of the healer's wing," Shar corrected as she nudged the door to the bedroom open with her hip. There were beds spread out in the room, enough for all of the riders, and there were so many with this clutch that it was a bit of a tight squeeze. Everyone had space for their things, though, and Shar ambled over to the bed that looked fresh and new, as if it hadn't been slept in yet. She found some of her belongings under the bed after a quick peek and settled the rest down on top.

"All right, this is us," she proclaimed as she took the little bag off Yulan. The small green unfurled her wings and gave them a little flap to stretch them out before standing on her hing legs to place her front feet on the bed, nosing the blankets with delight.

These smell much better than the healer's did. And they're softer too, she cooed with appreciation before turning her head to gaze at the bed beside her. I wonder who will be our neighbors. I can't wait to see everyone again.

Shar paused in putting her books away on the little shelf by her bed to glance at the two beds on either side of them. They were both neatly made and nothing gave away who might belong to which bed.

"I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Everyone should be coming back eventually."

It hadn't failed to escape Iathe's notice that one of the bed's next to hers had remained empty after all this time, but Skerath required all of her attention and care for the time being. Though it didn't surprise her to find out that the new rider in question found herself confined to the healer's wing in order to recover from the wounds she'd received, Iathe could only spare a brief hope that she'd recover quickly and without incident. Her hours of free time were often consumed with long talks with other weyrlings, or, more frequently, entertaining Skerath. A busy Skerath was a behaving Skerath, and she'd already had to deal with one slightly mauled mattress when she'd left the little green to her own devices.

"Your talons grow longer than any dragon I've ever met." She murmured quietly, knowing she'd have to file them again soon as they walked back to the barracks. They were wickedly sharp, and, seeing as some deadglow of a candidate insisted on playing rough with her.... well, for everyone's sake, Iathe took it upon herself to trim them as necessary.

They will be a boon in a hunting. Skerath replied, content. Suddenly, the green snaked her neck out, her eyes flashing orange for a moment.

Iathe paused, wordlessly questioning her bondmate... and then she saw them. A green she didn't recognize and her rider--clearly released from the healer's at long last. The young woman didn't hesitate, clearing her throat to make her presence known. "You're... Shar, aren't you? And Yulaniath? I'm Iathe of green Skerath. Though I believe you were... informally introduced to the latter." She offered a hand at once, her expression serious and slightly sympathetic, but not unkind. "How are your injuries?"

Skerath made a wordless rumble as she settled near her own wallow, her multi-faceted eyes fixed upon her green cousin. She was not at all apologetic or ashamed of her actions upon the sands... They had occurred before she had found Iathe, and remorse, if she felt any, would do nothing to change her past actions.

As Shar finished putting her things away, Yulan took it upon herself to slide under the bed to the left of their new sleeping space. It was pretty empty save for a pair of boots and a few dust balls which she snorted away. Popping out the other side, she gave the bed a sniff, but the bedding must have been freshly washed because she couldn't pick up the scent of her siblings or cousins on it. She moved around the foot of the bed to return to Shar's then passed it to try her luck on the second bed.

She hadn't gotten very far in nosing her way under the bed when footsteps caught her attention. She snaked out back to Shar's side, standing up on her hind legs to see over the top of the bed, her tiny frame still much smaller than many of the others who had hatched with her.

Sharmine, someone is at the door.

"Hm?" Shar turned just as the other rider and her green paused, the two pairs locking eyes. Shar tossed a glance down to see which dragon was here and her leg ached for a moment as that same dark green face with bright wings that had bore down on her on the sands just a few days ago peered at them, orange eyes flashing dangerously. There was no fear in Shar, though. She had grown up in the Weyr and knew that a baby dragon couldn't be held responsible for the destruction it could cause.

Words from the other rider drew her attention upward and she nodded, confirming that she had identified them correctly. A small, wry smile crossed her lips as she glanced back down at the dragon - Skerath - and nodded.

"Doing well," she said as she put her last book down on her bed for now. "It's a tough slice she gave me, not much skin to stitch back together. But it'll heal, doesn't hurt much now." Her tone was that of one who clearly loved what she was doing and was well aware of the risks that came with the honor of having a dragon choose her. She took the offered hand and gave it a firm shake in return, clearly not at all nervous about standing so close to the green that had been the cause of her injuries.

Yulan was pleased when the duo came closer and she bobbed her head in greeting before moving towards her cousin, eyes swirling green and blue and just a bit of yellow, not wanting to be overbearing or annoying. She reached out with her nose to touch Skerath's tail, booping it gently.

Hello. I didn't hatch before you found yours, cousin. It's an honor to meet one as strong and powerful as you. Yulan loved each of her family members and could see their strengths as well as their weaknesses as boons and pitfalls. Skerath was passionate and driven and could give Iathe everything she had, just as Yulaniath would do with Shar. Their temperaments were what set them apart the most, she felt, and she knew that not every dragon wanted to be hugged or played with or talked to constantly. She could be Skerath's quiet bed neighbor if she wanted or they could hunt small prey together out on the grounds. Either way, she held no resentment for the injuries bestowed to her own rider and she wished for nothing more than a relationship with her cousin.

"Excited to get into classes today," Shar went on as she let go of Iathe's hand to motion to the books above her bed. "Got a bit to catch up on but I'm itching to start."
