Sure enough a few months after her pact with Lihau there had been cubs to follow. Gur had been the first lioness in the pride since the move to have gotten pregnant so the crystal healers had been attentive to her every need. Cubs were a blessing and the pride had yet to experience home grown cubs or blood. A few marriages had happened which promised the next generation to soon hopefully follow.

All and all Gurs pregnancy had been a symbol of hope that the pride would prosper and that these beaches and caverns were sealed as their home.

The birth had gone over well too with the help of the crystal healers and some shines. The first two cubs had been easy but the last two made Gur want to die as they were more stubborn. For hours she'd laid there with the aide of healers to try to give birth and for hours nothing would budge. Who ever was left inside of her seemed to not want to come out just yet and Gur wasn't about to have that so she stubbornly kept at it until finally a lump of gray had come in to the world followed by a lump of cinnamon. There was as stillness in the room when the fourth had been born but Gur had been too tired to be upset that she had just birthed a cub was doomed to bare the title of shattered.

Recovery had been quick from the birth and the cubs were all healthy which Gur was quite pleased with. All of them bared the names of the order of their birth being one two three four or Eins , Kaksi, San, Ivee. All the cubs were girls and all bore the same shoulder markings. The interesting thing was the last two girls were twins but couldn't have been more different as San had an ideal pelt that would be favored with in the pride while Ivee's pelt doomed her to have to leave when she was grown.

The fact that Ivee would have to leave did not sit well with Gur as she felt it was not the girls fault that her blood had stained her pelt in the eyes of the pride. There was another option that Gur was considering which was to contact her family to come pick up the cub at the borders. There was no time wasted in deciding as this would make it so that Ivee would not live her young life as an outcast that had to part from her sisters and it would give her a better life among other family.

The decision was not an easy one but for Gur it seemed to be the most logical one as she very much wanted her daughters to have the best quality of life.

A seagull was sent with the message to her sister shortly after the girls got their soul gems assigned. Ivee's was Serpentine and Gur made sure to tie a necklace with the gem around Ivees neck.

A week had passed and she had gained the blessing of Faun to go ahead with her plan. The blue lioness took the burnt red female in her maw to the border and waited. She could only hope that her family would come for the girl. She could only hope that Ivee would be loved and accepted among her family.

Kadaj wasn't one to ignore the summons of his own children, so when word reached him of Ger's intentions to see speak to him again after so many years of silence... the older male felt overcome with joy and stern a sense of duty to answer the call. Duty to his family and to his pride, he would see her again to find out why she was calling for him after all this time, after so many years of worry and sadness. The red male was unaware of anything Ger might have needed to say, or was going to say... he only knew that deep down inside seeing her would do him a world of good. He was a father after all, and he loved every one of his cubs, regardless of how old they had become.

Tiah begged to come with him so she could see her pale sibling again, but Kadaj insisted she stay home - she was fat with cubs after all and travailing in her condition wasn't the best idea. So, after a lot of firm insisting Tiah agreed to stay behind and rest, leaving Kadaj to fill her place with another familiar face.

Sia.

They hadn't really talked after the nasty falling out the two had weeks ago, still, he knew if he was going to trust anyone with the task of traveling to see his long lost daughter it would be her. She was after all... his best friend. Together or not, he needed her more than she could possibly fathom. So he had requested she join him on the journey, not really knowing what to expect from any of the females in his life. The poor idiot was so tired of feeling helpless when it came to this sort of thing. Still, he would try his best and hope that come sunrise she would show up and join him.

They needed to head out as soon as possible.

Dawn was always nice at first until all the memories and emotions started to flood back in. Sia had been awake before the sun (which had become something of a trend ever since Kadaj had--since Sia had broken up with Kadaj). She'd spent extra time tending to her hair and accessories as usual, but try as she might she couldn't get anything to look right. She'd tried the gold bangles, then the cuffs, then the hair pin, then two hair pins, then a cactus flower (which she found had stupidly closed overnight, and by then it was too late to pick a fresh one). So now there she was, staring at her naked shadow on the wall. Blank. Bare. She took in a breath and stood tall, holding herself like a queen. But then her gaze hardened. Her head dipped. Her posture fell. She sneered. Sia pushed away and skulked out of her den.

After some time of walking, the lioness cast her eyes to the horizon. The sun was just beginning to peek. She was right on time, dammit. She hadn't wanted to be too punctual, but now she was almost at the meeting place. Of course it was a given that she would go anywhere or do anything Kadaj asked her, but he didn't need to know that! Ugh. Whatever...it's not like he could assume she had rushed out to meet him or anything. Not that it mattered. She didn't care anymore, and neither did he.

"I'm done with you," Kadaj's voice echoed in her mind. Sia felt a cold pit in her stomach. She caught herself before she came apart and stood tall, feigning nonchalance. She rounded a dusty outcropping and saw Kadaj ahead, his eyes to the horizon. She'd pretend she wasn't happy to see him, pretend that the first beams of morning sunlight that played against his clay fur and icy eyes didn't send her head and heart swaying, that he didn't look like the most perfect and beautiful rock--her rock.

Only when Sia was close enough that her own fur was striped with first light did she finally call out, "Hey." No nonsense. She would mask it all. "So what now? Which way?" she asked, biting back a yawn. Fake, of course.

Gur was beginning to worry that her seagull may have not made it to her sister as she had been sitting on the border with a very young cub for some time. She had Fauns blessing to be here and to do what she was going to do but she wasn't sure she had her families blessing. This was the moment of truth and if she had to wait at the border of her pride she would to make sure the cub ended up in a life better for her than she may find here. Thoughts started to swirl in Gurs mind of what may happen if no one showed and if Ivee was doomed to live her young life here before, ultimately, she was cast out and the amount of pain it might cause her growing up never quite as accepted as her siblings.

The lionesses ears lowered some feeling guilty for allowing her self to have cubs in the first place knowing her blood had a great deal of rust. Ivee was not a surprise but an inevitability and now she had to deal with the sins of her mother.

Gur wasn't about to give up though. The female stayed poised at the border in wait.

Kadaj had very little time to think about his strained relationship with Sia or where they even stood as friends, the second she showed he would insist they head out, so without much else being said the two did. The travel would be a long one, but it had to be done. He would not ignore an invitation from his own child. The sudden contact after so many years felt dire.

* * *

Along the way Kadaj would explain how Tiah and Gur's mother left as quickly as she came, taking with her most of the cubs the two shared. Tiah was the only cub he was able to keep, because when she left she did so in the dead of night... without warning or a goodbye. So all of the years Kadaj had spent separated from his own blood, it was not by choice, not by his own choice at least.

Maybe that's what drove him to see Gur after all this time. Maybe that's why this meant so much to him.

As the two travailed they stopped at a silver shore kissed by ocean waves. The place was so unfamiliar and strange, yet he was told she would be here waiting for him. So, with a loud voice he called out, Sia beside him.

"Gur?" His heart sink deep into his chest. Would she show up? Was he at the right place? The large male was starting to worry. If he and Sia were still on good terms he would have turned to her for comfort, yet he knew he couldn't right now. Not with how things were. So instead he stood in silence, hoping his daughter would show her face. A face he longed to see again.

As Sia listened to Kadaj explain the relevant pieces of his broken family history, the sun rose higher and the lands around them changed. The sand beneath the lioness's paws became sharp and gritty, and she didn't attempt to hide how uncomfortable it made her. Savannah sands and termite mound dust were one thing, but this was altogether different. Ugh. She didn't particularly care for the ocean, either. Who wanted to bathe in water that stung your eyes? Not to mention all the sand that that would get stuck everywhere. Gur must have been touched in the head to leave the Outlands for a place like this. And to leave her father...

Sia cast a quick glance at Kadaj. She thought she heard confidence in his voice when he called for his daughter, but her periodic glances spied anxiety. She thought of what would happen if she stepped forward to be completely beside him. Or if she nudged his shoulder. Or if she just told him everything was going to be ok...

She exhaled and hardened her gaze.

"Fashionably late, I guess," Sia drawled. "She clearly took after you."

It may have been by habit but Gur had been along the border under the cover of the fog and jagged rocks the barrier between the pride and no lions land had. She watched a red lion and dark brown lioness with Ivee dangling from her maw for some time a little confused at first who this red lion was until he called her name. Gur took a few steps forward from out of the the fog allowing the precipitation to swirl around her as she took each step approaching the red and brown lions on the prides border. Due to her maw being quite full, she did not call back but her eyes told that she finally recognized this lion.

Very squarely she stood with all the emotional excitement of a rock which might have been fitting considering she was a gem. Very carefully she placed Ivee down beside her paws so she could speak.

"Father it is good to see you," Her tone was not overly emotional any which way but that wasn't to say she wasn't pleased to see him. Gur was very much so glad to see her father and amazed that he'd be here in place of her sister.

"May I ask if Tiah is okay?" This was the first logical thing she'd ask as Tiah was not here before her. "Or is she lagging behind? " Her eyes slid over to the brown companion.

"My name is Gur. I am not sure the relation you have to my father but it is good to see you as well." Her tone was the same as it was with her father.

"Father," She turned back to Kadaj, "I can only assume you're here to take Ivee in Tiah's place?" There was a bit of a heart tug in the ending of her question as she was still not entirely sure why Tiah was not here with Kadaj. Worry was edging in to her heart ever so slightly.

At first Kadaj couldn't believe his eyes, Gur had grown so much, it was shocking to him, even though she shared a birthday with her sister Tiah. For some reason... at last in his mind he could only envision her as a cub. Maybe it was because that was the lion's last memory of her, the only thing Kadaj really had to hold onto after all of these years. He could forgive her being confused, in truth he was surprised the lioness even reached out to them. No matter what happened here the large male was very thankful to see her doing so well. Sia must have been confused, Gur looked nothing like him.

"Gur--" His pale eyes narrowed as his estranged daughter spoke. Her questions came back to back, leaving very little room for him to respond. So he waited until Gur was done, eyeing over Sia with a light smile. Things felt so tense.

"Tiah couldn't make it." His voice lowered, "--she is with cubs and was in no state for travel. So I came in her place, with Sia of course." A failed introduction, Kadaj was all over the place emotionally.

"Sia is... a friend." Though he did take a second to correct himself. The blue eyed lion didn't need to upset the brown female more than he already had. The relationship the two shared was on thin ice right now.

"Oh--" What was this? His eyes narrowed as the sight of a small cub caught his attention. "You had cubs? Both of you..." The large male swore under hushed breath, it was hard not to feel frustrated, the irony was really too much. Maybe he would just die here. "How many did you have?" He would have asked to see them all... but the lion knew it wouldn't be possible, not now at least.

"Ivee, huh? That's an odd name. Why her?" The messages shared between the sisters had not been disclosed to their confused father, so why any of this was happening was beyond him. The lion felt completely uncomfortable, this could be easily seen. He wanted to turn to Sia for guidance, but...

"She looks more like me and less like you. Sure she isn't mine?" A bad joke instead. Kadaj was really... really bad at this.

The back-and-forth exchanges between father and daughter were awkward and strangely sweet at the same time, but only at first. As the conversation progressed, Sia could feel her insides begin to burn. She could see things taking a turn, could recognize the tell-tale signs of Kadaj beginning to spiral. It was only a matter of time before everything went completely south. It wouldn't take much. Kadaj was already fragile, and Sia knew she wasn't helping matters. But what could she do? She was just a 'friend'. Besides, even if she could be a comfort, she couldn't prevent the inevitable.

Sia couldn't help but look down her nose at the other female. She tried to mask it, but her efforts were mostly focused on not snapping at her ex (which was proving difficult). She offered no introduction, not even an incline of her head. She tried not to watch the dusty red cub wriggling innocently at the blue lioness's feet.

Her ears moved at the change in pitch in Kadaj's voice. He was confused as to why Gur had brought only one of her cubs along, let alone any cub to begin with. But Sia knew. Tiah had told her in confidence. They were to take the cub. It wasn't wanted. She felt her throat tighten at the idea of raising cubs. Here was a lioness who had produced offspring, yet she was casting one off. It made little sense to her. Sia saw a phantom of herself mirrored in that moment, except with every cub she might produce wriggling at her feet, waiting at some lonely border. She could see herself somewhere far away, sending the cubs away, leaving them someplace, leaving the Outlands, leaving Kadaj, leaving... She swallowed and glared.

"Kadaj, really?" Sia snipped at the lion's poor attempt at a joke. Not only was it badly timed, but the idea of him having cubs with random other females sent her bristling. And yet the idea of herself having cubs was also terrible. She felt cold. She didn't want to be here anymore. She kept catching the cub wriggling in the corner of her eye, wriggling, wriggling...

Tiah having cubs at the same time as Gur seemed more than a coincidence to Gur like there was some kind of divine intervention going on which made Gur feel all that much more guilty to having to ask to add one more mouth to feed to her sisters incoming brood. Gur knew full well the risk of having a shattered when she agreed to have cubs and now here the result was before her feet and she had to face her father and his 'friend' and admit that Ivee was a casualty to her own recklessness. Even for a stone tough lioness such as Gur it was hard to get the words out of her throat.

Sia's reaction to her fathers joke got a half cocked, yet, uncomfortable side smile from Gur. She took a breath and let her eyes meet her fathers.

"She could stay here but she'd never be accepted. She'd be set off on her own away from her siblings when she reached adult and to have her grow close to her siblings only to be known as lesser is not the life I want for her. I want her among those that will accept her and give her a loving family," For Gur this may have been the most she'd said in a single breath. Kadaj was her father and that may have allowed for a little more loosening of her jaw.

"Tiah was ... " She looked down below to her front paws.

"I'm surprised she didn't tell you." There was an edge of annoyance as she was not sure what to think that here Tiah had sent her father and NOT told him. Honestly, it pissed her off that she had to confront her father and plea for her cubs well being. The message had never been intended for him but here he was and she had to make do. Love for her father had nothing to do with this as much as she had wished at the very least a heads up. Here the group of lions were now all in an awkward position.

"Are you willing to take Ivee?" Gur wanted to get to the point now as she chased her annoyance down her heart to fester. Maybe Tiah had sent a message and it was late or maybe she'd been busy with her own pregnancy. In truth it was Gur's burden to explain but Gur felt the message had done the explaining already and she hated repeating her self. What a waste of words.

Poor simple Kadaj.

His eyes couldn't help but narrow as both females took shots at him, Sia with her never ending discontent and Gur with a disappointment only a child could carry. Green eyes shifted from the brown lioness and back to Gur's blue pelt as deep sigh a escaped him. This... this was why they had been summoned here? Tiah... damn. No wonder she hadn't told him the truth, he might have not come if he had known the truth behind this summon.

Something inside him longed for the tiny ball of fur as Gur spoke coldly and firm. "Why..." He frowned.

"Why does she have to leave?" Her father was instant on knowing the truth. Why was this cub defective and undesired?

"What has this child done to deserve this?" As he spoke his voice grew deep with anxiety and anger.

"Please, Gur, explain this to me." If he was going to agree to this exchange Kadaj wanted answers. His focus was on his daughter now completely as he moved to stand in front of Sia in protective manner. The larger male was going to handle this his own way.

A hollow sigh left Sia's lips as she listened to Kadaj question his daughter. She tried to tune out his pain, tried to channel her emotions into anger. When glaring over her ex's shoulder didn't work, she tried to turn off everything altogether. She didn't want to listen anymore. There was no use dragging it out. If she could help get it all over with quickly, she would. It was enough already. Enough.

"Maybe she doesn't want it because it's just one cub too many," Sia jeered through a curled lip. "Or maybe she doesn't like how it looks." While she felt a sense of relief when Kadaj moved in front of her, blocking her from seeing the little squirmy thing at Gur's feet, it didn't stop the hot anger from rising in her throat and filling her eyes.

"It doesn't matter. There's nothing to be explained. She doesn't want it, so let's just take it and go. Tiah will raise it better besides," Sia said.

Would Kadaj fight his own daughter? Would he hurt her? Would Sia have to stop him? Or would he simply break down? She didn't know what to expect. But whatever happened, she'd do what she could to alleviate the outcome. Still, the sooner they ended this and started for home, the better.

The sand...was the sand too hot for--? Ugh...

Gur let out a bit of an irritated sigh as it seemed that Kadaj want going to make this easy. Gur was silently cursing her sister in her minds eye for this position she was now in.

"She'd be able to stay here until her prime. It is our policy to send lions who's pelts that don't blend in with our surroundings off on their own. I rather Ivee grow somewhere around family that will accept her. " She didn't understand why this concept was so hard for him to grasp and quite frankly was having second thoughts after meeting him and his mouthy partner.

"I don't know if you're a mother but if you were I'd hope you understand this decision is one I don't make lightly." Gur had turned her attention to Sia. She wasn't afraid to throw the ******** down if this lioness was to continue. It took a lot to irritate Gur and it was likely giving up her child was putting her on edge. A giant blue paw slid over Ivee.

"If you want her to stay here than let me know. I can raise my own daughter just fine with her sisters. I won't stand here and ask for this cubs future to be a happier one if you're going to judge me," there was an intense look in her eye that said she would not put up with this. She was not going to stand here and be insulted for what was the hardest decision she was making for none selfish reasons. This was her way to give Ivee a better future even if it meant she would not know her mom. It was an act of kindness.

Kadaj knew this was going to be a battle he couldn't win, no matter how hard he wanted to fight it. He had no room to judge his daughter though, he after all had not been around to raise her himself. All the large lion could do now was agree to take in the cub... no matter how hard it might have been to not question the laws of the land. It was the right thing to do and it was something that Tiah had seemed to have agreed to long ago, knowing full well how it would make him feel.

Softly the red male frowned as he glared at both his child and ex-lover. "Enough. Gur, I will take the cub. She will be cared for."

Slowly Kadaj turned to Sia. "Please, stop." He knew this topic was most likely causing her very deep distress but in the moment he could do very little to mend it. He would have to try to make things right with her when they returned home.

This tension needed to be cut.

"I promise you she will be raised with her family, Tiah and I will make sure she never wants for anything." He gave her a half-hearted smile. "I am glad I was able to see you, even if this is a short meeting. I have missed you." Kadaj made sure to say it at least once before he left her for a second time in her life.

He moved himself to Gur and picked up Ivee into his maw. It was time to head home. He knew they had exhausted their welcome by now. Slowly he turned to face Sia before he gave her a soft nudge with his nose, the little red cub withered in his grasp as he did this.
