Kutu knew a lot of lions who went out of their way to avoid the termite mounds. Kutu, however, enjoyed them. Something about them reminded him of himself. Tall, dusty, not very attractive, but still kind of unique and interesting to look at. When he didn't have anything pressing to attend to, taking a nap or a walk through the wide range of termites was nostalgic--comforting, somehow, especially at sunset. That's where he was now. From this position, in this place, he couldn't see the Pridelands. He narrowed his eyes at the sky. He could see his avian circling like a vulture overhead.

Ha-ha, very funny, the lion thought bitterly. That dumb bird didn't have anything to worry about. He could fly over the termite mounds and over the Pridelands, see the divide and not feel a thing....

Suddenly antsy, Kutu rolled to his feet and padded off. With any luck, he'd find someone nearby to talk to and distract himself with.
