Thread had returned, and it still felt as fresh to Lu'reni and Lazulith as if it had happened a few candlemarks ago, rather than Turns. Perhaps some would see it as heretic, but Lu was very happen in the dead time of a Threadless sky where her purpose was simple and, probably to many riders, boring. She liked running simple patrols, delivering messages, going on supply runs, helping Holds. The affirmation of a simple "thank you" for using her services to locate a lost child high in the mountains or in the dense jungle was enough to fill Lu'reni and her timid green's cups for months to come.

With Thread? The noble purpose returned? Lu'reni felt inadequate, not that she would ever purposely share that with Laz. The green doubted herself enough without her rider's insecurity.

It was early in the morning, the riding pair on a rest day, when they decided to spend a little quality time under a Thread-free sky down at a nearby cove. It was a short flight, and they decided to do it that way: flying to enjoy the swells and warm summer air. Landing on the beach with a soft thud, Lu'reni quickly stripped down to her underclothes. Nudity didn't bother the girl, but she'd run into traders and local kids on the beach before and decided to steer a more subtle route.

Lazulith was shifting from foot to foot with anticipation, but said nothing to hurry her rider. Almost! Lu'reni sent a wave of love to her, as she yanked off the fitted leg of her riding pants. You can go without me!

The green tilted her head to one side and said, It is better together with Mine... Lu grinned, tore free the last article of clothing and then wrapped her arms around the dragon, flipping up onto her back as Lazulith already began a quick hobble walk into the waves with a splash. The pair dipped in and out of the water, with Laz frequently surfacing below her rider to pop her up into the air with a trill of happiness.

With the potential of one of their own golds rising anytime now, on top of the two that had risen recently above High Reaches, Shanaloth had been an antsy and eager little thing. The green had desired little more than to go out on Search and bring home a whole throng of candidates. She would have populated the candidate barracks herself. Over the last few days Vetica and Shanaloth had covered more ground than the woman usually liked - and Shanaloth could feel the social unease from her rider. It was a careful song and dance routine her rider entertained, and today? Well, today Shanaloth deemed they’d both take a break.

While Vetica’s thoughts had been preoccupied with other things on the easy glide towards the beach, Shanaloth would have been beside herself if she’d not noticed the other green that seemed to be headed the same way. Rather than land right on their heels, she did another casual circle above the water before finding a stretch several yards down from Lu’reni and Lazulith to land. If the two wanted their own privacy, it would allow for enough space for it, at the very least.

It was only upon landing that Vetica had realized there were others out and about, and Shanaloth seemed satisfied with the internal tug that pulled at her rider as she dismounted, staring quite pointedly over towards where the other greenrider pair had begun their own play before forcing herself to look away. Are you sure you don’t want to say hello? Shanaloth inquired innocently, earning a gentle thud of a palm against her shoulder. It’s fine. Vetica insisted stiffly as she pulled off her boots and rolled up her pant legs.

She’d simply wade in the shallows, picking over what shells there were. If they wanted to talk, they’d let her know, after all. Shanaloth, however, seemed unhappy with this simple thought and looked instead towards Lazulith. Is the water nice? she inquired innocently, though she could have just as easily asked her rider who was shin-deep in it.

Lazulith was more than a little pleased that another green -- just like our Weyrwoman! -- was paddling around in the waves. The spritely green may have tinged a little blush, if she were capable of it, at being spotted playing with her rider, but she shrugged it off and sent a wave of positivity out at the other dragon. SO nice, she intoned brightly.

Lu was hanging delicately off the neck of the green, spurting out water. She smiled warmly at the green and then searched the shore for the rider. "The water is nice!" she said brightly, waving an arm. Lu'reni was always desperate for friends, a desperation that definitely came across though she may try to hide it.

The green dragon spit out another fountain of water and then flipped her rider onto her back, waddling closer to the newcomers. A general feeling of new friends?????????????? (all the ?s) oozed off of her.

What did you do? Vetica asked her lifemate pointedly when both green and her rider turned to look at the newcomers, earning more of a scowl than she usually had on her face. Knowingly, Shanaloth leaned to nudge her weight against her beloved before moving to meet her fellow green who was on the approach. She eagerly met Lazulith, offering a stream of sweet reassurances and cheeping with delight.

Half of which was offered to her rider who had stopped in pulling her hair back out of her face and looked more than a little put off by the excited meet up. For a long moment, she looked between Shanaloth, then to Lu'reni in the water, as though she was heavily considering something. Anything. Sigh. If they were there, it was simply better to make the most of it.

Or something.

Vetica said nothing as she rolled up her pants, and even as she waded calf-deep into the water, as though she had to test the assurance that the water was nice. She didn't look entirely convinced. Shanaloth dismissed her rider's standoffishness with another sweet trill.

MyVetica is being shy, I do hope yours is not offended, she offered in ways of something resembling an excuse. Vetica offered her a mental thump like an open palm against a shoulder to show her dismissal of the claim. Hmph.

Being ignored or looked over was not a new experience for Lu'reni. She had developed some charming coping skills around it -- namely: pretend nothing is wrong! With an ungraceful splash, Lu tumbled off the dragon, waving to the new green and made for her rider near the shore. Western wasn't a big Weyr so she was familiar with the face, but they hadn't been acquainted. And since strangers are just friends she hadn't yet met, the greenrider smiled to the other girl, stuck out a hand and said, "Hi, I'm Lu'reni -- that's Laz, Lazulith. I don't think we've ever said hi before." Her hand remained there, extended.

Lazulith lowered her snout into the water and made a stream of bubbles, wings flapping a mini wave pool. Oh no no, Mine is not easily offended. Mine likes people, even when people don't like her. Laz meant it as a compliment, but it was more of a fairly astute observation of how her rider moved through life.
