For some, the stampede might feel as though it had lasted hours, but in truth, it was only a matter of minutes. The herd scattered in all directions and was gone, leaning behind a field of churned-up mud. The lucky ones had fallen into the crevice when it opened, or been quick to get to it before they were trampled, but others were not so lucky. Multiple pride members have sustained injuries ranging from minor to significant, with the worst including deep gashes and broken bones.
Umholi Umkhombo lay unconscious atop an equally unconscious Umama Nenkani, hide laid open in several places, rain washing blood down into the mud.
Those with steady feet who choose to check on the rest may find that on the farthest fringes of the main group, a Busisa named Ziada, who had joined several months ago and recently bore a litter of three cubs sired by Umkhombo, is still and unresponsive. Several feet away, one of her cubs, a female, lies dead, while curled tightly beneath her are the other female and a male, in shock and covered in mud but alive.
----
Uheshe had no idea how long she'd been out - she'd hit her head when she'd fallen, and when she opened her eyes, she couldn't see much, not that being upside-down and underneath someone else helped with that. She groaned, tried to blink the dizzying spots out of her vision, and carefully took stock of how the rest of her was faring. A bit smooshed, but...nothing felt broken. Gingerly, she set about extracting herself from underneath the lioness atop her, who responded to her efforts by obligingly moving her weight off of her.
Phew. That was better.

The sound of silence that seemed to fall on the group drew an exhausted Giruvegan to pull himself over the edge of the hole he was stuck in with the lionesses....and it looked like the aftermath of a battle. Blood...how was there so much blood?!
He walked carefully, his own body exhausted but relatively unharmed...especially in comparison to so many around him. Where was he to start, to see who needed help? He approached Umutsuz first, the lioness still laying on the ground bleeding
Umutsuz couldn't move her tail. After it seemed like the last cured evil beast finally ran off, she tried to push herself up...and one leg wouldn't respond, but neither would her tail. She lost enough blood to feel weak, but not too weak to push her chest upwards to snarl at Giruvegan. "Nice....job you did there, idiot," she hissed with pain, but with a sense of familiarity too. They were friendly enough that the words she threw at him didn't sink in too far.
"I know," he said quietly, his head hanging as he snuffled at the gash in her hip. "I didn't protect anyone except maybe soften the landing for a few of the lionesses." How could he face the Umholi now? He glanced around, realizing that Umkhombo was completely unconscious, with others who were either knocked out or too dazed to move. "Are you able to keep your head up?" he asked her.
"Yes, I won't let....myself....drown," she grumbled, pinning one forepaw underneath herself as she turned to inspect her wound. At least the rain was good for something, and it was keeping the wound clean. Her tail on the other hand...she wasn't going to be able to get it out of the mud any time soon. "I....I'm not dead, though part of me....wishes I was. Check on the others." She groaned between her words, struggling to fill her lungs with air. s**t, those damned hooved monstrosities.
"Alright, Umutsuz." He sighed to her, and slowly made his way to some of the other lionesses, gently nudging them to check on them. This was going to take some time to clean up, and he didn't know a single thing about healing.
((a few people can assume he is checking on their character <3 ))

The scene down below was nothing but dust and cries of pain to Khapha. The vulture circled overhead as the last of the stampede abated, the dust settled, and the battle field was exposed. Lions lay scattered and broken, blood mixing with the dirt and dust below. The bird only had eyes for her partner and she breathed a sigh of relief as she saw the zebra pelt-clad albino pull herself from the crevasse. She dipped her wing and her circles turned into a slow spiral as she hovered above Ukufana, easing her way back to the earth.
After making sure she hadn't been hurt, Ukufana started nosing lionesses that hadn't made it into the crack. Everyone seemed okay...ish. Bloody and broken but okay. Alive, at least.
"Oh no," she said softly as her eyes rested upon the dark Umholi, fear clutching her chest for just a moment. When she spotted Umkhombo breathing she relaxed a bit, but he didn't look good in the slightest. It was times like these she wished she knew a bit of medicine.
---
By the time Faust's gaze returned to normal the stampede was over. Pain made his head ache something fierce but his wound was superficial, bloody thanks to the spot just above his eye where the hoof had struck him but certainly not deadly. Dragging himself out of the crack, the grey Umholi surveyed the scene. The smell of blood hit him hard and he knew things were going to be rough. He checked on lioness after lioness, ensuring they were able to stand, but when he reached one still mother and her broken daughter his heart sank. There hadn't been enough time to reach her. Still, he could just make out a quivering tail and some whiskers from under one arm. She had given her life for that of her children, the ultimate sacrifice.
"Come on out," he said quietly, reaching a paw forward to gently usher the cubs away from their dead mother. "You're safe now." His past life as both a slave and a wardog had taught him that there was a time and a place to mourn those who were lost and in this moment it was more important to ensure the living would remain that way. There could be tears later.

With a grimace, Melo readied herself to leap back up once the sounds of hooves faded away. Best to get out of this hole while she still had the energy to do so, she figured, and she would just endure the pain afterwards. Bunching her muscles, she leapt up and scrambled along the edge until she was up and out, gasping at the spikes of pain lacing through her back. This maybe hadn't been her brightest idea, but hey, she was out.
Collapsing to the ground, the lioness took a moment to gather her bearings and then looked around, face dropping in horror. Blood was splattered everywhere, and while she was relieved to see others talking, moving, the amount of people just lying there, not even breathing, was enough to drop a cold stone into her stomach.
It was made worse by the cries of cubs nearby, and after only one quick glance, she turned away with her eyes closed. She didn't want to see that, didn't want to see something so similar to....
With a shudder, Melokuhle curled her legs underneath her. She kept herself upright so others would know that she was among the living here, but she blocked out the sight of everything else for now.

The herd finally stopped stampeding. The pale male looked up at the top of the crack in the ground and took a leap to get out. The world was a mess. There were lionesses straddled every where. He was in good shape. Compared to a couple of the other males of the pride, the dark Umholi seemed especially battered.
Panama, didn’t know what to do. Looking around he rested his gaze on the more conscious of the Umholi and made a beeline for him. “How can I help?” He queried, his blue eyes cast across the scene the carnage, the tiny cubs he now had at his paws.
He really didn’t know what he could do but he was hardly the worse for wear for his little tumble in to the crevice, he just, he definitely needed some instruction, he didn’t know where to start.
—
Kokulzawa breathed a sigh of relief as the wilderbest finally removed themselves from heir vicinity. She looked to the other female who had spoken to her, now that the crashing had faded she could assess the situation. Her back smarted but in the short time it had taken for the herd to make its panicked flee it had stopped bleeding. She guessed moving would re-open the wound but she couldn’t stay down this hole. It was wet and it would only get wetter the longer they stayed down here,
“Can you help me get the cubs up?” She smiled gently at Ezinulo. “I’m not sure I can make the leap at the moment.” She smiled apologetically at the other female. She needed to take charge, wanted to help but she had a feeling she would be a burden if she did more moving than was necessary.

"Of course you are," Ezino murmured, running a reassuring tongue over the omama's back. Above her line of sight, however, the busisa's gaze was critical. There was a lot of blood, enough so that she could scarcely see where it all ended and the wound began. Not for the first time, the splotched lioness bemoaned her lack of healing knowledge. Perhaps then she could tell Kokulzawa something useful, like it wasn't as bad as it looked. She couldn't, though. And it didn't look good.
So Ezino resolved to say nothing at all, instead turning her attention to the little ones. She continued to lick gently at Kokulzawa's injuries, alternating between injured mother and the little ones until the thundering above them stopped. For a moment, everything hung still. "Is it over?" She whispered, uncoiling herself from around the bodies of mother and cubs just as tenuously. She felt stiff - and one hind leg definitely wasn't moving the way it was supposed to - but she was undoubtedly better off than Kokulzawa, and she couldn't refuse the older lioness' request to help the little ones.
Pushing off on that bad leg was painful, but she could still move it. As she dropped the first of the cubs off at the top of the crevasse, Ezino noted gratefully that she would take sore over broken any day. Even if the ache only worsened by the time she went back for the second cub. Back down in the chasm, she returned the omama's smile. "Use me as a step up, it will be easier on you." The offer was made soft but firm, accentuated by an encouraging brush of her tail against the other lioness' shoulder. The fall had not seemed to hurt her as badly, so it stood to reason that she would recover sooner. And that meant that she could go to much greater lengths to lend a paw.
