Sidd nodded back at the little girl cub, and then watched as she took off after a firefly. It was a little bit strange to watch someone who had no idea of the significance of these traditions try to catch one, but perhaps that was for the best. The young were still innocent, and didn't need to be burdened by these troubles.
The maned wolf paused as he noticed movement beside him. Glancing down with a questioning hum, he jolted back as the white cub next to him suddenly tore off. Well, that certainly didn't take him long to jump on that bandwagon.
Mykelti had been enjoying his food, and then he saw what exactly a firefly was. He froze eyeing the light that his sister was failing to catch, and thinking to himself 'I could catch it... I could totally catch it....'
The movement Sidd had seen was Myk's tail swishing excitedly behind him as he tucked what was left of his food behind him, before he bolted forward. The cub almost bulldozed his sister in his attempt at getting the light, but even as he leapt upwards and swung his paws, the lights flickered away out of reach.
With a growl, he circled them, "Come back here!"

The cheetah watched as Hien continued speaking, and then blinked as the baskets were opened. Oh, how pretty! She'd been told of what would happen, but as someone who'd joined while they were rebuilding, this was the first of the festivals she'd get to see, and thus the first time she has ever seen it.
She could see why they would decide to do this. It certainly looked like the fireflies were escaping into the sky, creating a path in their wake for the deceased to follow. She mused to herself that it was also a sign of good things to come.
It was breathtaking to watch, Tiel thought with a hum.

The mother of the cubs snorted as their short attention span drew them away from the meal that the pride's leader had given them. Of course....
Well, she wasn't about to let it go to waste. Heaving herself up, Aislin plodded over to where it was left and snatched it up in her teeth. Meandering back to her spot, she laid back down with a thud and proceeded to munch on what was left. Which was a lot.
The lioness watched as the fireflies were released into the air, cocking her head to the side and chewing thoughtfully. Well, at least that seemed to brighten things up.

Midnightglow18 I think I'm going to have this be their last post for this ORP.
Myk gave himself a shake, glaring up at the fireflies. He tilted his head as he noticed the bugs floating back down a ways away from them. Grinning and turning to poke his sister, the white male wiggled his hindquarters excitedly. "They keep coming back down. We can pounce as they get close."
And then he paused, seeming to think about something, before giving Maeve a challenging look, "Wanna see who can catch more?" He started hopping away before she could answer, "I bet I will!"
Myk was off, sprinting through the crowd and trying to find as many as he could. He hadn't thought far enough ahead to consider how he would keep a hold of them after catching them, but it was all in good fun anyway.

The maned wolf watched with a roll of his eyes as Myk and Maeve started playing. Good luck catching those fireflies. Flying wasn't something a lion was good at, but hey, at least it was distracting them.
A glance around him showed that everyone was beginning to perk up now that the fireflies had been released. What had started as a somber event was becoming one of togetherness now. With a hum, he started sliding himself down to relax....
And then sighed as he saw Myk charge off into the crowd. Glancing over at the boy's mother, he gave a snort at her uninterested look and then pushed himself back up. Fine, he'd play babysitter. He wasn't too worried about Maeve causing trouble, but Myk....
Well, better to be safe than sorry.
So he trailed behind the white cub, tail swishing behind him as he walked.

It was nice to see everyone brightening after the dreary start of the day. Meandering over to where Lifa was, Usahtiel sunk down under a tree just a few paces away and began licking at the fur on her leg. She would admit that she was starting to get tired, the day having been a long one, but....
She would keep watch for now, and then once her charge chose to leave, she too would get up and head to bed. With that thought in mind, Tiel rested her head on her paws and curled her tail around her chin, watching with lidded eyes as everyone conversed.

Aislin flicked her tail as she ate, raising an eyebrow as she saw two of her cubs run off to play. She should probably be more concerned about where they'd gone, but she felt confident that they'd return when they got tired or hungry... or when a pride member decided to drag them back to her.
Yawning, the lioness pushed the leftover scraps of her meal away and then curled herself further around her other cub. This little one was blessedly still asleep and more than happy to stay with her. So she would take advantage of it and take a nap, herself. |
