The black and white cheetah woke up slowly, eyes blearily staring out of the bush he'd taken shelter in the night before. It had rained over night, and unfortunately for him, he was in the middle of a field with very little cover. He'd had no choice but to find the nearest spot with a roof, and that had ended up being a leafy bush.
It wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world, but it worked. Shifting in place, and ignoring the twig poking his side, Roku poked his head out to squint at the morning light of the sun.
He still felt exhausted, despite sleeping all night, and he briefly considered curling back under the leaves once more.... but honestly, he'd rather go find a warm spot in the grass than continue here. Maybe he could catch some breakfast and then perhaps find a sunny place to take a nap.
So with that thought, he grunted as he pushed himself up and began trying to pull himself out of the branches.

Rangi was a very out going and friendly lion, most of the time. It was usually his travelling partner, Ngome, that went out of his way to make sure he did not get himself killed by being too friendly to someone who did not feel the same way. In his mind, though, everyone had a beauty to them,
male and females, lions and hyena and everything in between. Why should he not go in and let them know about it?
Some creatures just needed to learn how to take a compliment.
Or maybe he needed to be a little less forceful about giving those compliments, but that was something Ngome would say and not something Rangi needed in his head when he had a few moments away from his water maned companion.
He was splashing along on the wet ground looking for some food when he spotted a head poke out from under a bush.
"Oh, hello there!" he said eagerly, crouching down and blinking at the new face. It was smaller than a lion, though he had trouble figuring out what it was until it stood up and revealed that it was, indeed, a cheetah. "Oh, those paws!
You have fascinating markings on your feet!" |

At first, Roku didn't register the voice speaking towards him. He was sleepy, give him a break.
But the lion very suddenly there next to him was harder to ignore. Doing a double-take, the cheetah eyed the other male uneasily before deciding that it wouldn't hurt to answer. This one didn't seem very antagonistic, which was always a welcome thing out here in the rogue lands.
Lifting a paw up, he blinked at the marking on his legs and then looked back up with a blank, almost innocent expression. "Uh, thank you? I was... born with them." It was a lame response, but he had never really given his markings much thought before.
That said, he could recognize someone else with fascinating markings, namely this other male with the most colorful of manes. He'd never seen anything like it before.
Of course, the only thing he managed to vocalize was, "You're really colorful." He was blunt when he was tired.
