He had been hearing rumors that his sister had often been seen with a male. A dark colored male! Though half the pride was dark, but still! A male! What had happened to his cute sister who he would always wrestle with and whom he was still living with?! Now she was actually hanging out with someone else! Well, not that it was a surprise, after all, they had less time to be together now that he was patrolling the borders to the pride, it just... made him nervous. And suspicious. He really shouldn't be suspicious of any of his fellow pride members, but as a brother who was protective of his sister, any male that she had her eyes on would need to be watched carefully. He wouldn't threaten them, that wouldn't be fair and it would only make Nyarai mad at him, after all, she was smart enough to pick her own mate, he couldn't interfere with that, but... still. In the back of his mind, he couldn't help it. So, he would at least keep an eye on the male.

But, the problem was, he wasn't sure who it was. Sure, they knew it was Nyarai, after all, it was hard not to stand out when they were colored so brightly, but they hadn't yet been able to identify the male. And it's not like he could go around the pride asking and stalking his sister in case she met up with the male again. Khwezi had pride duties, which meant that he was to be away for long periods of time. If his sister did get with someone in the meantime, he would just have to learn to live with it, after watching the other for a while.

He shook his head, his mane flying about as he tried to clear his mind and focus on the job-at-paw. He couldn't be letting distractions and thought such as those be clouding his mind, but the gray sky that was currently above wasn't helping anything.

Maybe... maybe he should ask for more breaks from his job. Or maybe ask to switch to something else. Something that would be closer to his sister. In his head he knew that she would always love her brother, but at the same time... getting a mate meant they were moving so far apart, though he knew that she would probably feel the same when he started to go after the females. Surprisingly he hadn't yet really gone after any of them, but that was because he had mostly felt content doing his job and living with his sister. So if that was going to change, he might need to find someone to. He didn't want to be alone if she were to move in with the other male.

Such musings were distracting him no matter how hard he tried to focus, and so was unable to see a lion coming towards him...

User ImageTry as he might to stop himself, Inkumbulo was all but walking on air. He wasn't ignorant to the fact that he was more...buoyant than usual. He was certainly aware that some might notice that the normal dour boy was presently walking around with, more often than not, an actual smile - however small it may be. Not to mention there was a noted bounce in his step. For his part, Ink always managed to explain it away. He was just enjoying the weather. Patrols were going particularly well. The future of the pride was looking up, so why shouldn't he be optimistic?

All lies. It had been only a couple of days since his rainy afternoon with Nyarai, and since then he had found himself able to think of precious little else. Instead, he went about his days with those moments playing over and over again in his head, words and actions recounted in vivid detail. He was wise enough to admit to himself that he was developing a bit of a crush - or perhaps just exacerbating one that had been present for a long time. He was still cynical enough to admit that it was very likely nothing would come of it.

But the memory was still his. Apparently, despite his best efforts, his mind was determined to revel in it. So why not let the good feelings run their course?

"Khwezi!" Ink bobbed his head in greeting to the other n'echebe, simultaneously coming to the realization that he - Nyarai's brother - was a very good reason to keep his newfound good feels in check. He hadn't even stopped to consider that he was patrolling with the other lion today! How foolish! "You alright? You look a little far away, there." Then again, maybe him being out of the loop would be easier. Then Ink wouldn't feel as awkward, and Khwezi wouldn't be able to ask him any potentially dangerous questions.
