The weather was unique here - something he learned fairly quickly. He hadn't been somewhere so dry in all of his adventures. There were water holes available, but there hadn't been a drop of rain during his entire visit. A visit that should have been cut short, but he decided to stay against the traditions of this pride. He didn't have any intentions to break any pride rules, but he was still desperately curious.

Why would a pride remove males? Are they no longer worthy?

The rumors he had heard reminded him of his salty home. The pride thrived on proving ones worth, but the males didn't leave - even in cases where they proved to be unworthy. In fact they remained to try again or regain their reputation depending on what had happened. The questions burned into his mind and he hoped beyond hope that it was another lioness that approached the border.

He had learned of the consequences of males found at the border that simply didn't belong.

When Kgabu had heard from the near-infertile lioness, Usushisa, that there was a brightly colored lion hanging around the borders, she had to go see him for herself. After being taken under the tutelage of her mentor, Umama Umlotha, Kgabu had been swayed to care less about a lion's coloration. In fact, she found that standing out with unusual markings made one more popular. That's how it certainly felt with the blue-flower patterned lioness that Umlotha kept company with.

What was so bad about bright colors anyway? Why the stigma against colorful pelts? Kgabu didn't think it was such a bad thing and so she struck out on her own to find this lion and decide if he was worth her time. She couldn't recall his name, but she was certain that she would know him if she saw him.

And saw him she did, for his bright green stood out against the tan terrain of the Bonelands, even on the border. If that wasn't enough, the gear that he wore certainly enticed her and she approached him pleasantly.
"Hello!" She greeted. "You must be the stranger I've heard so much about lately. I'm Kgabu, how do you do?"
