It was late afternoon in the Weyr, when the sun had set below the walls of the caldera but not yet below the horizon. S'vor was in a meeting going over some wing rotations when he realized the time. Val would be being done with his craft training soon... Shells, he hadn't expect this to take so long. The Weyr was a pretty safe environment and weyrbrats, fostered or no, were known to wander freely and generally run amuck within its walls. Still, Val had been having some difficulty adjusting since moving away from his sister, and S'vor usually liked to be there to meet him when he got done with his apprentice work for the day.

Since there was no way he was getting out of this meeting, he reached out to his dragon instead. Maveth, I'm going to be stuck here for a little while. Can you go and pick Val up from his lessons. he asked.

Which is how the green dragon wound up traversing the tunnels of the lower caverns.. The little green managed to squeeze herself into the passages leading down to the infirmary, but was wise enough not to try and enter the room. Far too many things to knock over in there. Instead, she peeked her head around the corner, scanning the faces inside until she found the one she was looking for. There you are, my lovely. She said, reaching out to the young fosterling.

My S'vor is busy so he sent me to fetch you. Are you done now?

The young man sat apart from the others who were remaining in the craft room. Most of the weyrbrats had all but ran out the door, but a few others were waiting for friends and family to pick them up, staying after to work on task, or were simply hanging out with one another. It would be an hour or so before dinner was served, and the time was theirs to do with as they pleased. Unfortunately, Val had yet to really make friends. Growing up, he'd had his siblings, his parents, and some of the other entertainers in their troupe to play with and hang around. He'd sometimes clown around with some of kids of the Hold if they were stationed there long-term, but they never became close or dear friends; and most of the time the kids were simply impressed by his acrobatics and skills with the blade. Faces and names changed regularly, so the fact that he was here in the Weyr, and now had to make friendship based on his own merits, and not simply impressing them with a few blade tricks, wasn't all that easy. Worse, he wasn't his usual happy and charming self; he was, quite frankly, a bit depressed since the sudden loss of his family, feeling responsible for his sister's missing arm, and now being foisted off on S'vor.

But it could be worse, he knew.

There were others in the Weyr who lost their entire family; there were others who didn't have a loving sister, or those who were still being raised in the creche. He was being given many opportunities, and Val wasn't so heartless as to not know it -- it was just a rough adjustment for the rather sensitive young man. He'd always wore a confident face as an entertainer... but lately, he just didn't have the heart to even try.

So he sat quietly with his stack of hides, his ink, and his quill; he was still trying to find a proper craft to study, and was currently taking preliminary lessons concerning Smithing. The Weyr had a few Journeymen and Master Smiths on hand, for both training the weyrfolk interested in said crafts, as well as doing business with the Weyr itself. Valendyr wasn't sure how he felt about possibly crafting his own blades, versus purchasing them, but he also wasn't sure how he felt about crafting in general. Honestly, he didn't want to craft anything... he wanted to entertain. He wanted that rush of adrenaline from a cheering crowd, or pulling off some sort of acrobatic stunt that would amaze. No one had time or need for entertainment anymore, at least that's what it felt like. Honestly, he wasn't sure smithing was for him, but he'd give it another sevenday or two before he considered trying something else.

Like everything in his life, even his crafting was now in flux.

So he sat there, waiting for S'vor to come by and pick him up. While part of him wanted to object -- he wasn't that much of a baby! -- another part of him desperately appreciated the attention. Maybe he wasn't just taking pity on his plight, and actually was interested in him. Maybe he wasn't just going to get in the Wingsecond's way or be underfoot.

While Val had expected the man to enter the room, he hadn't counted on a lovely and warm voice speaking to him....or for a green dragon to be there! The voice was different than any he'd heard; and he didn't actually hear it. It just...was there, in his head. It wasn't Lazulith, but was a similar sort of sensation, and the boy couldn't help but gape.

It had to be Maveth, S'vor's green.

Ah, but a smile was quick to follow his surprise, a smile that even he couldn't stop or hide. Not everyone got to talk to dragons -- even his own sister's blue didn't speak to him unless it was a dire situation. We're done for the day, yeah. Finished up early. Sliding quickly off his chair, he headed out the door so as not to make her wait..

Still, the sight of a green dragon slinking through the stone corridors was quite the sight. "You didn't have to come all this way...Though I am glad. It's not too uncomfortable, is it?" She might not be a huge green, but she was still big to Val. And he didn't want Maveth to feel put out of her way, either. He didn't know the green dragon well, and he did worry she'd feel like he was taking up too much of her rider's precious time, or having to babysit. "I'll hurry, so you're not stuck in here for too long," he said with a hint of anxiousness on Maveth's behalf. He didn't want her to feel stuck or claustrophobic. It probably wasn't nice being somewhere where she couldn't stretch her wings.
