Reillan wiped his forehead, breathing in the dusty air baked by the noonday sun. It was time to stop his training and go wash up so he could be presentable for the rest of the world yet again. It had been a long day between meeting with others of his rank to discuss disappearances among their people and training so that he could be prepared always to deal with the problems that arose.

He entered the public baths with a sigh of heartfelt, bone deep relief. His mood perked as he remembered that he would be having a more pleasant meeting soon with Varinia. While she may not be exactly sweeter than those he had been with today, she was ten times the warrior and a hundred fold more alluring. Most importantly she was his, which made him the luckiest man in Oba..and indeed the world.

He started to whistle, his mood immensely improved and joy imminent.

Varinia was early, as usual, so she waited outside the public bath. It wasn't long before she heard a familiar whistled tune, which seemed to be Reillan's favorite when he was in a good mood. The girl waited and listened, her own mood improving as well. After a few minutes went by, she decided to cause some trouble. "Hey Reil, you know if you bathed instead of whistled you'd get done a lot faster." The jest was clear in her voice as was now her presence outside waiting for him. Varinia knew it would make him hurry which she would tease him for later.

When he was finally out, Varinia slung her arm around his waist and started pulling him in no particular direction at all, but just to be moving. "Did you learn anything new about the disappearances? Naevius said the people being taken didn't seem to be able to be grouped by any particular common ground. Not race, gender, age, religious beliefs or anything like that. Nae was there at the open forum when that one got taken, she said the thing that took the girl was....grotesque and just vanished." Varinia thought about it for a moment. If it weren't for Nae saying she was there and saw it she might have believed along with some others that it was just a rumor. Then again, there were plenty of races they hadn't known existed until recently. But taking various people from varying races was an act of war, something these nations had started forgetting about in favor of peace.

Varinia lowered her voices before continuing. "She," Obviously meaning Naevius, "Said her father was sending an ambassador....probably Besian...to meet with other leaders from all the different peoples. Nae wasn't sure but she thought she heard something about the Yaeli and Belreans even taking part. It makes me glad people are working together but at the same time, more weary about what actually IS going on." She looked up at him with a raised eyebrow, as always wanting his opinion on things.

It was hard to stress about such things when the most beautiful woman had her arms around you, but the concern in her enrapturing eyes brought out the warrior in him.

"If their selection is not based off of any one trait then it must be something else that all of them share. Usually," he hesitated not really wanting to voice this concern aloud but knowing that she would drag it out of him anyway.

"Usually when another species preys upon another...it is for food." He shuddered. Those poor people. But logically that made sense, why go through all the effort if there was no significant gain to it.

"The things fought over on the natural scale are resources and mates. Since they are not taking anyone in particular and not in large numbers the reasoning points to food. Perhaps for some creeptastic ceremony?"

He felt like throwing up just thinking about it. As one of the best educated people in Tendaji anything remotely uncivilized turned his stomach never mind people being eaten by creepy bug people.

"Or they have infected those people to turn out like them? Our best bet in any case, is that they are not an earthling, elaria or alk race which means that the above can unite against them and I have faith that as a group we will prevail."
