After six turns in the Weyr, L'fer would like to say that he knew the names of every rider in it. But recently, with the influx of dragons returning to the Weyr, there were simply some riders he never crossed paths with.

Which is why it wasn't until he saw their names on a roster that he even realized the two of them were here. As much as he wanted to believe his old friends had a change of heart and chose to join the Weyr in the fight against thread, he knew them too well. Which left the question, why were they? What exactly was Ambrin's angle here? He still considered the two of them friends, though he acknowledged that they might not feel the same about him. He never said goodbye when he left. He never said anything at all.. Just up and ran one night. But however bad he felt over that, and however he thought of them personally, this was his home now. And he wasn't going to let them take advantage of it.

The matter was complicated, however, by the fact that he had recently been promoted to wingleader, and they were in a different wing. If they were both the same rank, he could confront him about it any time he wanted. Two riders arguing was hardly a cause for alarm. But he couldn't just go around interrogating other wings' riders two days into his new post. Not if he wanted to keep it for long. He didn't want to bring it up with V'lik, however. At least not until he got a chance to talk to them first. He'd been given a second chance here. They had every right to the same. And maybe he was wrong.. Maybe they wren't planning anything.. But somehow he doubted it.

He waited until he had the chance to run into one of them in passing, somewhere they weren't likely to be overheard. "Ambrin!" he called, catching the brownrider's attention. Whatever he was here for, L'fer still couldn't help smiling. He did miss them. "Long time no see."

Not even six months into his extended visit to Western Weyr, Ambrin was already used to the routine… and hating it, frankly. He was his own man at heart, and while the pay was fair, and the training priceless, it all came at the cost of satisfaction in his work. He had actually written up a letter of experience and put in for a promotion to Wingsecond, which remained in the hands of they Weyr’s upper management for exactly two hours before he rescinded it. That probably hadn’t reflected too well upon his integrity, but things were as they were. Ambrin had decided that no amount of marks was worth a bridle of such… permanence.

Though he was dreadfully malcontent with his current lot, the man was still the perfect portrait of serenity as he strode through the inner tunnels, seeking out the records room. Perhaps the Weyr’s most recent tithing records would provide some new leads he could look into.

He hadn’t expected to hear his name being called way down here, but all the same, he paused and smiled at—

“L’fer!” The measured smile widened with sincere geniality. “My friend, fancy meeting you here. It’s been a while.” It was true that Ambrin had been very focused on completing certain goals while he was at the Weyr, but he still wondered how he could have missed spotting the greenrider before. “Have you been here long?”

Before Ambrin turned around, L'fer really wasn't sure what to expect. Would he be annoyed, angry? Would he even remember him? Did he hold a grudge? So he was more relieved, when he smiled, than he cared to admit. However he'd left it in the end, he couldn't help but remember how fun it had been those first few turns in the group. He had to remind himself what he was doing here. That kind of lifestyle was tempting, especially to his younger self. No limitations, no suffocating regulations.. But no morals either.

"A while, yeah." he said, running a hand over the back of his head. "Six turns, in fact.." Which was to say, ever since he'd left their group. He felt like they ought to have a conversation about that too, but he wasn't really sure how to start. He supposed if Ambrin wanted to know anything (where he'd gone, why he left..) he could always ask. "How's Euma? I saw she's here as well. Morpeth will be excited, I'm sure." he said. She'd gotten along well with the other dragons in the groups. Though she'd never objected to his decision to leave the group, the green had also never really understood his qualms with the kinds of work they used to do.

He had more questions of his own too. How they were, what they had been doing.. But there was a more pressing query plaguing his mind right now. "Not that I'm not happy to see you and all.." he said, folding his arms. "But the Ambrin I knew wouldn't be caught dead in a Weyr in a thousand turns. What's your angle here?"
