Making careful steps, Wei hadn't left her den in weeks. She had been out collecting materials for her crafts when she had met the male - he was kind enough, but she hadn't expected anything to come of it. After all, her last romance ended rather unceremoniously, and with nothing to show for it.

She had been nervous - without any family in this, her third pride, she wasn't sure if she'd be able to produce the 'instincts' that everyone had talked about. But, once she was certain that she was, in fact, with cubs, there was a certain calm that had overcome her. It was a sort of proof that, after all of her journies and difficulties, this place was the place that she was meant to be.

Her head was lowered slightly, and her ears were erect and swiveling. She took a few more steps forward before stopping, looking back at the edge of the tall grass.

"It's alright, loves. You can come out." Her voice cooed gently, and a soft smile was on her face. Even if she was still keeping them from the busier parts of the pride, she still wanted to show them a little more than the inside of the den.

(( You guys don't have to RP your kiddos here if you don't want to - I just thought it'd be kind of nice! ^^ And if dad wants to swing by, I'm sure he'd know where the den was! ))

Zhilan stayed within the darkness of the den. She wanted to dart out into the brightness but she remained where she stood, crouched low to the ground. She peered at her siblings wondering what they were going to do but then her mother called out to them.

Carefully she crept forward, keeping low to the ground. One would think she was part of the ground how low she remained but she slunk forward anyway. The light getting closer and closer. Blinking she turned her gaze away as the light hit her face and she froze for a moment. It was so bright.

It almost hurt.

After a moment she became used to the sun and she blinked a couple of times and walked towards her mother, no longer slinking. "It's... Bright."

She wasn't exactly pleased to say the least, but it was something NEW so that was something.

Wei couldn't help but smile watching the little ones creep out. Their little squints, she knew, must be unwelcome to the small cubs, but she was glad that they were finally able to see the big and bright world for all its beauty.

She turned her body, creating a little bit of shade over the opening of the den. She could see that some of her little ones were a little less excited about venturing out for the first time, preferring to hang out in the back of the den a little longer. Hopefully they'd come out for a bit today, but if not, they could always try again tomorrow.

With little bounces, Baoshi slowly made her way to the mouth of the den. She wasn't sure if any of this was a good idea - after all, the den was warm, safe, and made it so that everyone had to snuggle together all the time. She wasn't completely sold on the idea of encouraging independence and separation from her siblings, but momma said that they were growing little ones and this was the next step. And momma is always right.

She watched her twin crawl close to the ground; a solid tactic, to make sure everything was safe. Since she would be the third to come out from the darkness, Baoshi felt a little more confident and showed it in her stance. "Momma, do we have to go outside?" Her little voice had an element of stubbornness to it.

Jin had been quiet from day one - never mewling or seeking additional attention. Instead his chosen activity was to watch the others. He noted the way his sister moved, crawling across the ground towards his mother who was casting a large shadow over them now. He admired the way the darkness shrouded the entrance to the cave. The world had appealed to him and though he was one of the few that lingered in the den a little longer he was extremely excited to get out. Leaving would mean seeing more things to enlighten him.

"Oh." The cub moved forward standing tall. Confidence in his mother and his sisters made him comfortable in his choice to leave the cave as large as he could. "So pretty!" He gasped loudly. The scenery behind his mother was impressive to the small set of eyes. He'd wondered for long enough about what lay ahead for the group. There had been limitations of what they could do for the first while, someday he'd understand why.

Soon his purple eyes, wide with excitement, cast upwards to his mother. "Mama, I love outside!" He wasn't about to hide that fact and had found himself feeling quite bouncy. "Can we go farther?" Another gasp as he realized that the world likely was largely than here - or was it?

How was their brother not blinded by the light. She blinked a couple more times and finally her eyes adjusted. She glanced back at her twin who seemed to not want to go outside any more than she did, BUT she was at least already practically outside. Her brothers boldness made her want to prove that she wasn't afraid though, if HE could do this then she very well could.

Standing up all the way she left mothers side and walked over to him and looked at what he was looking at. Though she wasn't sure what it was he was looking it, there was so much to see. "It's so big, how do you not get lost coming home?" She asked her mother curiously. How did she know the way all the time? Everything was so large and just HUGE. It was intimidating.

Xinyi was fast asleep when his mother first spoke out to him and his siblings. Even when some of his siblings made their way outside the den, he just lazily rolled over and tried falling back to sleep. He could hear the excitement in his siblings voice though. A part of him wanted to bolt out of the den and see what all the fuss was about. But the other part of him just wanted them to keep it down so he could get a bit more sleep.

When he rolled over a second time Xinyi decided that he might as well wake up. Tiredly, he pulled himself up and stretched his tiny legs. It had better be worth it, he thought, as he went running out of the den.

As he got to the opening of the den, he saw his first glimpse of sunlight. “Whoa,” was the only thing he managed to utter before tripping on a small stone and tumbling head first into the ground. “I am okay.” he groaned.

Beaming with happiness, Wei couldn't help but feel more complete now. "It is pretty, isn't it?" She turned to look out at the lands around them - she had always loved the beauty of this world, and it eased her mind a little now hearing that her cubs were starting to agree. A small part of her was worried she would have to deal with cubs that preferred the sight of the den.

Leaning down, she nuzzled her little ones. "I love outside too. But today, we have to stay around here." It was their first day out, after all, and Wei didn't want to risk a longer venture with such small cubs. Plus, being a first-time mother to five made her a little nervous about being able to keep an eye on everyone.

"Soon, we'll go farther. And soon, your little noses will be able to show you the way." Wei gently touched her nose to her pale daughter. The twins didn't seem quite as thrilled about the outside world as Jin, but they were making the attempt.

She looked past her small cluster of adventurers back into the den - she was one short. Young ones needed sleep, she knew, but a small part of her worried something was amiss. Slowly, her fears were eased as she saw the last of her bunch make his way towards the edge of the den.

"Why do you want to go out more?" Baoshi raised an eyebrow at her brother, moving closer to her twin sister to lean on her some. It was nice, and the smells were nicer, too. But it was a bit too bright and overwhelming for the small cub. Baoshi liked warm, snuggly, and safe. Momma had always said that there were lots of other adults that would always be around to help watch them and take care of them if they needed it, but they were strangers and she only wanted momma. How would anyone else know the right cuddling positions? There were five of them, after all. "Momma, are those other adults out there?" Maybe if they were close by, they could sneak a peek at them.

Zhi looked up at their mother as she spoke and she was glad that they weren't going to be going anywhere. At least not yet. She wasn't sure her little mind could handle that just yet. "Oh good. I like that." She said with nod of her head as she ventured a little further from the dens entrance.

When her sister spoke of other adults she lifted her head and looked around wide eyed. "Are they friendly? They aren't going to hurt us are they?" She only knew mother so the idea of other large adults made her a little nervous.

"Me too, my little one." Wei gently nuzzled her small daughter. At this stage, she wasn't sure if she'd ever be happy once they reached the age to go off on their own. For now, though, her beautiful little balls of joy were all hers.

"Here, the adults are very friendly." Her expression stiffened for a moment, the thought of her cubs accidentally wandering out of pridal lands going through her mind. "But you must be careful to stay close until you're bigger."

"Yeah, we'll be just fine staying with you always momma." Baoshi pushed her lips out in a determined pout. Nothing out there could be more interesting than their cozy den, or her four siblings. Except, maybe the grasshopper that briefly caught her eye.

The freedom was sweet, but limited, Jin understood what his mother was saying and fear that one day the world out there would swallow him whole. The beauty he was witnessing startled him to his core. Colors were brighter with the suns rays hitting them and the way his mother lit up as she spoke with them was astounding. His purple eyes simply couldn't settle in one place.

"We shouldn't go to far?" He turned his head up and finally settled his purple gaze on his worried looking mother. Jin sensed the tension, but couldn't comprehend its meaning. "What will happen if we go to far mama?" He posed the question innocently and fear was evident in his eyes. There was obviously something wrong with traveling that far and he worried.

"You won't go to far, will you?" His question was directed at his mother. Jin knew his siblings would stay where they were told, likely for the same feelings, but he knew his mother had to leave from time to time enivitably. That was what he envisioned others doing. In fact he saw some others milling about in the distance.

"Not yet, my sweet boy." She tried to ease her nerves, but she was a well-traveled lioness - she knew what was out there. "If you go too far when you're still this small, someone not-very-nice might find you." She didn't want to go into too much detail and scare them, but she also wanted to make sure they'd keep within a safe distance while they were still this young.

"I will always be close by." Leaning down, Shi Wei nuzzled Jin's head, a smile reappearing on her face. Now that she had cubs of her own, she was glad to have found this pride; the safety it offered, even when she had to go off and hunt, was irreplaceable. There was a time when she doubted if she would ever find another pride, but third time's a charm.

"But I don't want you to fear, my little ones." Her gaze bathed over all of her cubs. "Not everyone in the world is bad; in fact, most of the ones close by here are very kind and helpful. And in a blink of an eye, you'll be big enough to go out and about and meet all sorts of interesting creatures." Though she cringed thinking about when that day would come, she knew that slowly, soon, they would start meeting others - cubs, pride members - they were all relatively close, and Shi Wei would soon start bringing the little ones into the heart of her house's lands.

Baoshi, for once, was silent. Listening to her brother speak, she could feel her nerves falter. Not-very-nice? Who would that be? Did momma mean other lions, like them, or was there some other scary creature out there that the small cub couldn't even fathom? She wiggled in place, the only way she knew to express the feeling she had. She wasn't sure if she ever wanted to leave this area, or ever leave momma's side! Taking a few small bounds, she shoved her small face into Shi Wei's leg, rubbing against her soft fur.

She looked up at their mother as she spoke and blinked her bright eyes and then looked at her siblings. If they were friendly why did they have to be careful? Was there something mother wasn't telling them. She didn't say anything though. "That's good." She looked over towards her twin that was closest their mom.

When Jin spoke up she looked towards their mother expectantly, yes, what would happen? "That sounds scary... I don't think I'd want to meet someone who's not like you momma." It didn't quite compute to her yet that not everyone was going to be caring like their mother, though it was starting to creep into her conscious.

"Are there other's with little one's like us?" She wanted to know if maybe she'd get to meet anyone her age that wasn't her siblings. Not that she didn't love them dearly.

"I wouldn't want you to meet anyone with an unkind bone in their body." Shi Wei's eyes were relaxed, still gazing down towards her curious little ones. "And for now, you won't." She extended a paw towards her little ones, guiding them gently.

"You know, I hadn't really thought about that." The lioness lifted her head, looking towards her house. There must be other little ones running around, she was sure of it. "But, I bet you'll start meeting some of them soon." Soon, she would be taking them in closer, and they would start to learn the ways of the pride. Hopefully they would also make some friends to grow up beside.

"How about, for today, we head back to the den?" She leaned down, touching each of her cubs gently with her nose. There had been so many questions, and she thought that they had done plenty of exploring for one day.

Still rubbing against her mother's soft fur, Baoshi couldn't quite comprehend all of the different thoughts. Their world had been so small until just now, and now they were talking about strangers and other little ones? Did momma have more little ones somewhere else? Or did the strangers have little ones? She didn't really like the possibilities.

"Yeah, I wanna go back inside." She stuck a pouty lip out, taking a few bounces back towards the den.

Satisfied with their mothers answer she gave a sniff about and then listened as she said they should all head back. She had a point, it was getting late, well to her it was late. She was getting tired anyway and a yawn escaped her lips as she looked at her siblings. It seemed they were wanting to back too so she nodded her head. "Okay momma." She looked over towards their brother since their sister had already started bounding back. "I'll race you there!" And she took off.

"Come now, little ones." Shi Wei glanced around, ensuring that her small cubs were all headed safely back towards the den. She was ready to curl up with all of them and relax for the rest of the afternoon before having to go out and hunt again.

Closing in on the den, Baoshi could hear her sister challenge her brother. She quickened her pace, wanting to get there first to take the prime spot next to momma.
