Large, eager blue eyes, blown wide stared down at the wild dog. His face was practically all smile except for his gaze, eyebrows drawn high, expectantly.

There was one thing that he didn't know about the wild dog. One thing that he craved to know.

"What's your name?" He was mentally kicking himself. How could he not ask in the beginning?

Oh right. The rock.

Still, he was surprised it didn't come up. "I'd rather not call you little fella the whole time we're together." Unless the wild dog decided to run off. The ends of his grin slowly fell, his brows starting to show his worry. Why, he didn't want him to leave yet! They just met! He seemed like such an interesting guy as well. There were so many questions that he still had to ask. Still wanted to know. Who else could say that they met a rainbow coloured dog stuck in between two rocks, huh? No one. No one except him.

Still, the story was unfinished. There was still much to learn about the male. Where did he come from? Why was he in between the two rocks? What was his family like? Right now, Hadathi wanted to know everything. The lion shifted his two front feet nervously. The silence was getting to him.

But all he could do was wait.

Rangi'ukungu was super grateful to get out of the rock. Surely, he was. But he could not help eyeing the large lion suspiciously. Perhaps he should just show his gratitude and scram. That wouldn't be a bad plan at all.

"Rangi," he replied absently. How would he get away? Could he make an excuse? Sure, the big guy probably wouldn't eat him. He claimed to be full. Yet, he couldn't quite trust the male.

Unless he wanted to trust him.

The thought struck Rangi hard. He had decided long ago that he would look at the world brightly. Who was he to discriminate? Did he really want to go through the world with that ugly view, jumping and scampering at any sign of a suspicious character? That wasn't a very bright way to live. It was too dull, too boring, too black and white. And he had quite enough of that.

Taking in a deep breath after his mental debate, Rangi grinned open mouthed up at the lion. He had made his decision. He would talk to the lion without prejudice. At least, he sure was going to try to. 'And you, big guy?" he responded back before realizing something was bothering him. "And I am not a 'little' fella, buddy," he gritted out with a barely contained snap.

It was like the sun shone brighter as the wild dog said his name. So he wasn't that afraid. A sigh of relief whisked through his teeth. Ahh, that was such a pleasant thought. The lion rocked back on his heels as he pondered. "Pleased to meet ya, li'l Rangi!" His eyes settled on the dog's own and he couldn't help his grin growing impossibly wider. "Your name suits you. So springy." And it was cute, but it was best not to upset him too much. The little guy seemed awfully feisty.

Although..he did wonder if the pup would actually go after his ankles. Hadithi snorted at the image of Rangi nipping at his feet. Most entertaining indeed.

The long intake of air had the lion's focus coming back. Silly him. This was not the time to be daydreaming about different scenarios! A bark of laughter left his lips at the dog's next question and at his own ridiculous mind, his long main sticking this way and that as he did so. "I'm Hadithi!"

However; apparently he was mistaken about the little guy's mood. What was once amicable was now tense. Luckily, Hadithi knew how to remedy the situation with his stellar conversation skills. Obviously, Rangi did not know his height. "You barely reach my chest!" Sticking out his upper lip, he held one paw just above the dog's head before moving towards his chest. His gaze grew wide, attempting to show him the ways of his true height. "See?!"

The smile on his face flickered down, yet not into a frown. A realization had occurred. Slowly. Carefully. His blue eyes zeroed on his new interest. "Are you...big for your kind?" His jaw went slack. Was that even possible? He was so tiny!!

Rangi forced a grin. Really, really forced it. "Just Rangi. No l'il," he gritted out. He shook his head, glancing up at the sky. He was stuck for too long. The sun was heading towards the horizon. It would be time to hunt soon. He sucked at hunting and most of the day was wasted. He nearly sighed before paying attention to Hadithi. "Springy?" he asked, slightly bewildered. And how was he springy?

To be honest, he didn't quite care for the lion's name. He didn't want to stay long. But he should make nice. And so, he simply nodded. He opened his mouth to reply... and promptly snapped his teeth back together audibly. The lion was making fun of him?!

"I am big!" he growled, dancing back a step. He didn't want to be closer, didn't want to be compared. It was humiliating, being treated like a mere pup. He wasn't a pup anymore! "You're rather rude," he pointed out in a huff. And then his stomach growled. Embarrassingly loud.

No li'l?! Hadithi's grin turned into a long frown, lip practically jutting out. "But it fits you! You're like---half my size!" he did the comparison with his paw once more, going from Rangi's head to his chest. The fella was larger than a cub but he was still small. Most likely a small adolescent's size. He couldn't just ignore that fact. It was a part of what the wild dog was! But he'd let that go. It was disappointing, yet he didn't want to upset the small fry. Even if it was painfully obvious.

This guy was a piece of work, for sure. How could he not realize his name was springy. Maybe it was because he was springy himself, surely. His head bobbed up and down in a nod. "Mhmmm! Springy. Rangi. Sounds similar, don't it?" he snerked, lowering his head down so that he was eye level with Rangi. "You're personality matches too." A near murmur, but it got across the teasing manner all too well. He was always the type to wear his heart on his sleeve.

Hadithi's gaze widened significantly knowing that he was big. Much like a cub seeing their first rabbit or other small creature. He didn't think it was possible. He had always imagined wild dogs to be just as big as himself but oh, how wrong he was. "I'm sorry." He sputtered, still trying to collect the pieces and gather his thoughts. "But, if you're big then what's the average?!" He chuckled a bit, pulling a paw through his mane. "You haven't been the first to say that." He tried to be nice and forthcoming. But obviously, there was a fine line between being cordial and being rude. There was much work to do. "Let me know next time you see something as rude li----" his cheeks tinted purple. Crap. This was going to be a hard habit to quit. "Rangi."

He was going to leave it be. Switch conversation and let the awkwardness fade. Until the canine's stomach growled. Hadithi looked toward it before glancing back up in question. "Hungry?" he asked, unsure. The lion may have just eaten but he was more than willing to hunt for a little something extra. Rangi looked like he wouldn't eat too much. Not like getting bigger prey would be a problem. Still, little ones were easier to kill without thinking twice about the life that he just took.

Rangi was about to snap at him again, fur bristled when he heard the beginning of “l’il”. However, his stomach stalled the outcoming snap and he looked away, humiliated. ”Not in the least!” he huffed. And his stomach growled again. Louder this time. His ears went down and he glowered at Hadithi, as though he was at fault for this. ”I’ll hunt something in a little bit,” he muttered. But with the sky quickly darkening… he’d probably go hungry for the night. He was not a good hunter at all. Usually, it took several hours for him to gain a meal. It really left little time for travel.
