[DUEL] "On - Guard!" (Dam'adhra & Jioni Moto)

[In Good Faith]

Dam'ahdra yawned widely, feeling the rays of the sun warming her dark fur on her back. She had no reason to think today would be any different than any other, and felt a kernel of complaisance weigh heavy in her stomach. She'd yet to see much action after the recently joined members paraded in. Even then she didn't get the chance to duel any of them. (Being new, she was the one to cover everyone's guard post shifts.) She understood then, and did so now, but she couldn't say she hadn't missed the action a little bit. She was almost afraid her muscles were growing weaker.

Shaking her head stiffly to wake herself up a bit more, and to get rid of the negative thoughts, she decided it was time for a walk on the area she was charged with. It was still early morning and her tiredness hadn't yet left her from the night before if she was being honest.

biggrin very nice title. sorry it took so long for me to give a response, been crazy with bad weather and work.

Jioni was not one to give up easy and so he was back for more punishment in trying to win a duel so that he could rightfully join the firekin. waiting patiently, it was not his strong suit to do so but he was more than determined to win a duel. he had already lost once and was hoping not to loose again. so when he suddenly caught site of the dark female coming into the area, he got himself ready to duel. standing tall with his tail lashing about, it was clear he wasn't as patient as before. digging his front claws into the sand, he hoped not to make the same mistakes as last time. " i'm here to duel." it was all he bothered to say to her when she got close enough.

Dam had seen a figure in the distance approaching. Not letting herself get too excited--often times it was a returning firekin member--she waited at the boarder patiently. The lion, as he approached, was obviously not the friendly sort and immediately her defenses went up. She noticed she was the only guard in the immediate area and it was both exciting and a little scary to be honest.

She opened her mouth to call his way and demand he speak his purpose but the lion beat her to the punch. Startled, she almost thought she misheard him. She closed her mouth and re-opened it but nothing came out.

Well this was not going as planned.

Shaking her head as if to clear her thoughts, Dam then took a sparring stance, her paws firmly in the sand. "Alright then..." Her expression was passive and she waited to see what the outsider would do with narrowed eyes.

It took a heartbeat for her to realize she was probably the lion that should initiate the sparring, given she was the firekin here. She suddenly lept ate the lion. She feigned left but went right, her teeth snarling and her claws extended, aiming for neck.

Jioni was taken by surprise by how quick she was to launch into action after he declared he was here to duel. snarling, he had no time to react to get away from her sharp claws digging into his mane. hissing loudly, he was grateful he had a nice full mane to help protect his neck some. but he had no time to sit around obliviously to think and just had to try and react to her attacks. with a snarl he swung his paw hard at one of her legs in a attempt to throw her off balance so that he might slow her down. breathing fast already, he was now in full battle mode and was unwilling to go down easy. though already this duel was not going how he thought it was going to go, but he was going to try to make the duel go his way.

She let a yowl slip when she felt the sting of claws on her back leg, but the pain fleeted almost immediately, from adrenaline she was sure. Because of the close proximity the two were keeping, it was almost for certain blows would connect and it would simply come down to who was faster and who was stronger... unless she was more clever. There was no doubting the lion had size on her. She'd beefed up considerable after joining the pride, but a lioness could only reach a certain size in general, compared to a male.

So this time, she attempted to use that to her advantage.

The lioness launched herself at the lion again, but this time aiming higher, her claws grabbing into the flesh of the lion like hooks, her teeth going for his shoulder as she was half way on the lions back, holding on with all her strength.

In Good Faith

Jioni was very unprepared for the fact that she would keep this duel very close combat. eyes wide, he attempted to keep her from clawing her way up his shoulder and back but all his attempts missed. giving a loud rawr, her claws and teeth did not feel very good. thrashing about and giving more failed attempts to throw her off, he was almost feeling defeated already. snarling and growling, he did not want to go down this way at all. with all his failed attempts, he could only hope eventually he would get her off him so he could possibly turn this whole thing around.

The lion was putting up a good fight and Dam could feel her claws slipping. And to be honest, she didn't want to permanently damage the lion's muscles. That was not what dueling was about. We wanted the strong, but if the strong cut down the ones with potential, our numbers would shrink into extinction.

She released the lion and allowed him to throw her off to which landed as gracefully as she could manage (though she still stumbled somewhat). It was her poor footing that caused her to miss when she struck out again, aiming for his face. Realizing she was at the disadvantage once more, she put more space between herself and the lion as she begun circling him.

he was thankful when he finally managed to toss her off him, even though she had allowed it. the clawing of his neck and back did not get him in a great mood. snarling, he tried to lash out at her while she was stumbling a bit from being launched off him but failed to hit his mark while trying not to get smacked across the face by her. giving out a low growl, he watched her as she circled him and waited for her next move to strike. it was clear he already was losing this battle but he was not going to give in just yet. tail lashing about, he was going to try to turn this duel around to the best of his abilities.

While it took her a heartbeat to do it, Dam'ahdra finally found her balance once more. Unfortunately for this stranger, it only took her that second to leap at him with full strength. Had this not been a duel, but a fight for life, she would have been able to do some serious damage, possibly lethal. But this wasn't. Instead, her claws splayed and her teeth showing, Dam's mouth bit into his mane just enough to show that she'd won this fight. What surprised her most was the sense of guilt that slammed into her for it.

Releasing him almost as quickly as she'd taken hold, the black lioness stood in a more relaxed position but a safe distance away. Her breath came quickly as she gave him a sidelong glance, unsure of what his reaction would be. She almost wanted to say she was sorry but her pride wouldn't let her. This was the first duel she out and out won.

After a few moments she swallowed. "You can try again. and again. Until you win." Her voice was not harsh, her tone almost matter of fact which for her, in this situation? Was down right gentle.

Snarling with teeth showing, he knew when he was beat and this was the end of the duel. once she released her grip on him as quick as she had a hold of him, he backed off but it was clear he was angered to be beaten down so badly. even his last duel had not gone so horribly."I don't need you to tell me anything." he snarled out his words with venom as he lashed his tail about, before going to take his leave. it was very clear to him that he was not going to be able to join this pride of fighters very easy at all. cursing under his breath, it only made him more determined to join and it will make it all the more sweet. only taking one look back, he went to rest as his breathing was heavy from the fight still.
