As expected by every lion and lioness that Ubusika approached in the pride, she found that it was alarmingly common for a liona dn his or her hare to be perfect matches. How she had gone so long without noticing that was a mystery but strangely, it made her feel better about the fact she had yet to identify her own perfect companion. It helped push the hunt for a hare of her own out of her mind.. but it also helped that she had a Snowman waiting to help teach her to hunt.

The only problem with that was that she really didn't want to embarrass herself.. so she had wandered off on her own to practice. But finding something to hunt was proving to be extremely difficult. The hunters probably knew exactly where to go but the Ice Princess had no idea at all. So she was wandering the snow, focusing primarily on looking for unfamiliar tracks in the snow.

It was cold. And there was snow. It close enough to home that he could close his eyes and imagine he was there. Kamiseen had left the Gods' Haven on what was essentially a dare and hadn't gone back because he didn't want to look foolish. Or cowardly. But it was still nice to find a place in the mortal world that was so much like his home.

He was lost in thought, but looked up at the sound of paws crunching through the snow. A lioness was nearby, he saw. The god considered talking to her, but had no idea what he should say. So he just watched.

Ubusika was so determined to track down something that for quite some time, she didn't notice there was a god nearby, watching her. Her eyes were looking down on the snow but soon it started to hurt and her frustration overwhelmed her. With an angry snort, she lifted her eyes from the ground and tracked upward to the sky-- and then did a double-take at the unexpected sandy form that was sitting in the snow nearby.

He was large, unfamiliar and didn't look.. quite.. right? Were those wings?

She stared, but made no move to approach him.

The lioness had noticed him. He supposed that meant he should probably say something. But what did you say to a mortal who had seen you and was now staring at you? Kamiseen was not very good at this.

"I have been taught that it's rude to stare," he observed aloud, watching the lioness to see her reaction. Her fur was white enough that she could easily hide in the snow if that was her desire. Unlike his own, which was rather obvious. Not to mention the sand he dribbled wherever he went. The god was actually surrounded by a small puddle of the dry grains now, making it look almost as if he'd melted a hole in the snow.

Ubusika blinked but she didn't avert her gaze. She was a princess and if there was one thing she was good at, it was maintaining eye contact and some semblance of dignity even when called out for something like that.

Plus.. she wasn't she could take her eyes off of him. He did have wings and he looked so totally out of place.. he had to be a god! He didn't look like she had imagined any of the gods revered by the Schnee la Neige'milima. He was.. too dry? Too earthy.

She took a few slow steps toward him, but kept what she hoped was a respectful distance.

"I apologize for staring," she said, "I have never seen a god before!"

Well, that had been his guess, if he'd had to make one. But how on earth was he supposed to respond to that? Kamiseen had seen mortals before, sure. But this was probably the closest he'd ever been to one, and the god twitched his wings nervously, dribbling more sand.

"I have never spoken to a mortal before," he admitted, still watching the lioness. Honestly, he wasn't at all certain what to do in this situation. It was so far beyond his experience. He didn't think the lioness was dangerous to him though. Nor did he see any reason to hurt her. It wasn't what he did.

She was startled by this statement, and it showed. It seemed incredibly likely that the vast majority of lions had never, ever had the chance to meet a god before.. but that a god had never met a mortal lion before? That seemed almost crazy! But then again, Ubusika didn't really know how gods worked.

"Oh, well.."

She hesitated, then put on a pleasant smile so she would stop staring dumbly at the god.

"My name is Ubusika, Ice Princess of the Schnee la Neige'milima," she introduced herself, "Welcome to our lands."

Brown eyes blinked. He didn't know what all of that meant, but he assumed that they were titles of some sort, meaning that this lioness was important amongst mortals. Not that it mattered much to him, but it seemed important to the mortal. To Ubusika.

"I am Kamiseen, God of Sandstorms," he replied at last. The male considered asking what the rest of the words she'd spouted off meant, but decided not to further reveal his ignorance of mortals, their prides, and their titles. That wouldn't be very dignified.

"Sandstorms!" she repeated in awe. That explained why he didn't look anything like what she would have expected for a god lurking around the snowy area the pride claimed, but it made her wonder what had brought him here.. she wasn't sure if it would be polite to ask but then again, he wasn't being very chatty on his own either.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, God of Sandstorms," she said, deliberately not using his name out of respect, "If I may, what brings you to our snowy mountainside?"

This whole encounter was making Kamiseen somewhat uncomfortable. Were all mortals like this? Should he take on a mortal form as some of his fellows did? But if he did such a thing, well, Kamiseen knew so little of mortals and how they acted with their own, that he'd be sure to stick out even lacking wings. Best to stay aloof for now.

Though he wouldn't abandon this conversation in the middle, that would also be rude. The time to leave would have been before Ubusika first spoke to him.

"It reminds me of home," Kamiseen said at last, gesturing at the snow around him. "Though it never melts in the Haven," he added.

There was no way Ubusika could ever venture a guess at what his reasoning might be, there was no sand here to draw him unless he intended to make some drastic changes.. but she believed the power of the Goddess of Winter would protect that, that it would be harder to undo than just by simple whim of a visitor. And yet, the answer he gave made her pause and then glance around in wonder.

This is what the home of the gods was like?

"R-really?"

PostPosted: Sat Oct 22, 2016 8:47 pm
"Yes," the god answered simply. He wasn't sure what the expression on her face was, but it was making him somewhat uncomfortable. He was starting to wonder how he could extricate himself from this conversation without being unbearably rude.

How would Nemanja'janan handle this?

Well, maybe that wasn't the best question to ask. Kamiseen's friend might just fall asleep. An effective end to a conversation, but not one that would actually help.

Ubusika's heart fluttered with excitement at the idea of just how meaningful the pride's blessing from the Goddess of Winter was. It made everything around her seem somehow new, somehow more beautiful.. she was so enthralled that she nearly forgot she was standing opposite a god, and when her mind got back to it she realized just how little he was saying and how uncomfortable he seemed.

She offered a sheepish smile. If he seemed even a little more interested, she would have offered to show him around or something but she felt certain she was imposing on his seemingly quiet, peaceful visit to a snowy area.

"I'm sorry for intruding," she said, decidedly not stammering over the same excuse she had given for staring, "I should be going."

Kamiseen blinked. She was going to leave? That was, well, something of a relief. Had he frightened her off or something? No, he didn't think so, she didn't seem frightened. But he couldn't deny that he was pleased by this turn of events.

"Okay," was his only response to the lioness. Maybe it was getting too cold out for the mortal as the sun started its descent for the day. Or maybe she had someplace to be. He did not, and so he was intent on remaining where he was for a bit. He really did miss the snow.

She offered one last smile before finally removing her gaze from the strange and wondrous lion- she wanted to remember meeting him, even if he had been very distant. He was polite, though, and hardly seemed malicious. Overall it was an interesting encounter. Still, it occurred to her that she should let her father know.. she wanted to tell him what Kamiseen had said anyway.

So off she went, heading right back home to look for her parents.
