Well, that was successful.

Hehewuti moved with pride towards the training grounds. A matchmaker had been named. One that she felt confident could do her job. The lioness was troubled by the general feeling of many at the gathering, however--there seemed to be many that were uninterested or uninformed at the family lines. She supposed that it was no matter, now. Nuria would do her job, and many of the others wouldn't have to worry about it. She supposed the mentality made some sense, with the influx if new blood in the pride.

Reaching the edge of the training grounds, the white lioness came to a stop, scanning the area. Her eyes fell on a familiar looking lioness, one that Hehewuti recognized from the matchmaking.

Hm.

The guard neared, seeming to ignore the various other members gathered around. "Afternoon," she said, her voice light and enthusiastic. "Care for a duel?"

If Alya had any qualms about how he choosing of a matchmaker ended, she didn't show it. The lioness didn't want to be the matchmaker. The soldier was happy enough in the army and had goals of climbing the ranks. She had no intention of becoming a civilian. The mere idea of leaving her aspirations behind sent shudders down her spine.

The soldier was lying around the edge of the training grounds, watching the duels throughout the area. She didn't notice the other lioness approach her until she was spoken to. Alya blinked, turning her golden eyes towards the source of the voice.

She recognized the Magistrate's mother instantly. "Hehewuti," she responded, getting to her feet. She blinked, then smiled. At first she was concerned that the white lioness was interested in chatter. She was much more open to a duel. The soldier stood and moved back an appropriate starting distance away. "After you," she said, muscles tensing.
