Asha stood patiently at the start of the patrol point. Today she would patrol with one of the guards under her. She tried to patrol with one of them as often as she could, picking out potential to become the next head guard once she moved up to becoming a General. Sometimes she would patrol on her own, perfectly capable of taking care of herself, or she would patrol with a sentry or even Kilua or a handful of gatherers on occasion.

Despite her normal serious disposition, the leopardess was quite a softy. She held a great affection for her mate and her close friends. She was starting to feel a great affection for the pale pastel leopard that had come into the pride recently as well.

Still, the leopardess took her job seriously. She knew that Kilua left the promotions of the Defense sector to her as the highest ranking Defense member. She had a keen eye for potential, and she was eager to get someone into the position as soon as she left it.

The leopardess hummed, ears flicking as she listened for the other half of her patrol to show up. She was early, wishing to mentally prepare herself for the task before Gwarredd showed up to the starting location.

Today was a fairly important day, at least to him. He'd been set up to patrol, as was the norm, but today he'd be accompanying the Head Guard, which could potentially mean good things for his future. He'd been witnessing some lovely transitions with his mate, perhaps it could be time for his own chance at growth within the pride.

The dark leopard moved from his den at a pace that was clearly a little more enthusiastic than usual. His golden eyes were focused. Soon he was treated to the vision of his leader, Asha. "Good day, Asha." He smiled warmly. This was certainly a huge opportunity that he had been striving for. "Was there anything in particular we should have our eyes peeled for? Or is this a typical patrol?" It wasn't unheard of to hear of things that needed to be checked out. More often than not there was nothing, but who knew?

He took to the silence that drew between them with ease.

Asha gave a grin, watch the black leopard closely for a moment. Her golden eyes bore into him with an intensity that she often used when she was patrolling. She scrutinized him closely. She had thought a lot about the decision to promote him as she move up in ranks herself, and she felt like he could do it.

He would just have to prove himself, of course. She felt he was experienced enough, but she still wanted to do a patrol with him.

Just to be sure of course.

"It will be a normal patrol. Except," She paused, turning her stare away from him, looking towards the borders. "Today, you will be taking charge of the patrol," She wanted to see his decision making process and how he handled the responsibility, where she could observe him.

"After today, if you do well, I'll place you in charge of a small patrol group, and we'll see where it goes from there." She told him, her shoulders rolling before she relaxed.

Those eyes, gold as the sun, were sizing him up - he could feel it. Gwarredd stood still, not wavering under her stare and instead returned a stare of his own - though he hoped it made him look regal and fitting of the possible changes.

Oh how he could leap for joy, he'd have liked noting more than to pause the Head Guard in her step long enough to seek out Anju and pass along the good news, but of course he had to stay and make sure it was a success - one step at a time.

Don't get ahead of yourself.

Inhaling slowly and exhaling, just as he had taught himself many moons ago, he found his center again and smiled at Asha, a grateful grin. "I'm honored." He said. Though he had calmed himself he found it a touch difficult not to leap about. Looking ahead, instead of at her, he smiled to the border and sent a silent thanks to the Gods for such an opportunity, now to prove himself - fortunately the group patrol was days away, today he could focus on him.

"Shall we begin?"

He asked her, taking a step ahead - eager to begin himself.

Abominable Greenie

Asha almost laughed at the over-eagerness that Gwarredd displayed, but her face only settled into that of amusement. Asha was planning on rising through the ranks as well, even though she could have started at the top. There was no one above her, but she felt the need to prove herself as much as anyone else.

When she had left the small group of healer - the original pride, it had been as an apprentice - a journeyman. She returned as a simple guard to nothingness - there had been nothing to guard. Fortunately, she had found Kilua, who decided to start the pride back from the nothingness.

She gave a hum. "We shall," Asha agreed, walking along with him, though keeping a step behind to watch how he reacted to the things around him.

The dark leopard watched his role model through the corner of his eye, gauging her reactions and adjusting his own to match that of her regal stature - she was the ideal candidate and painted an even better picture since working through the ranks instead of simply grabbing hold of the empty rung above her. Gwarredd admired the female more than most anyone else he knew and she deserved his admiration - in his eyes anyhow.

It appeared as though the day was opting for a more quiet approach to itself. His golden eyes took in the full view of the prides border that they arrived upon and he gave a contented sigh, relaxing his shoulders a small amount to allow himself to limber up in case of emergency. "What was it like when the pride started?" He asked. It was no secret that he and Anju had arrived after - his mate was successfully running the ranks through blood, sweat and tears.. now he was looking to do the same. With that in mind he sought to learn a bit more, while he remained attentive to the space around them.

"You were here during the beginning, right?" He knew the answer, but supposed it would push for a response more so than his first question. Gwarredd swiveled his ears briefly to listen around them, while his paws continued to carry him onward.

Asha kept pace with the guard, easily watching him as he was meant to prove himself. He really had potential, and a sharper gaze that Asha had. Her hearing was better than her eyesight, but her Sight was strong as well. It helped when she her vision failed, but only sometimes. It had helped her more times than she remembered though. She hummed a bit.

"Well, there was an original group, long ago," Asha started. "Kilua's mother, and a few others who wanted to learn the trade of healing. I was there since then, I grew up with Kilua. There was no one for me to apprentice under as a guard, though, so I left and began my journey as a guard elsewhere."

It felt like so long ago now. It made her feel old and creaky, but her kids were still young. She wasn't that old, right?

"When I returned, I found only Kilua and no one else, and I had little Safuraa in tow. We eventually found this place, here," She gestured to the area around her. "And went out to find other healers and guards. It grew from there..."
