Tale was... acceptable. Sometimes more acceptable than others, depending on whether the time in question concerned Nikaio and his special 'friends' or older members of the traveling troupe. With the later being the less acceptable of the aforementioned options. Akiyal was quick to learn that he had about as much patience for these parents as he had for most parents in general. It was, most unfortunately, not a remarkable sum.

In his defense, he had said beforehand that he wasn't particularly talented with chores and didn't feel any great amount of commitment or obligation toward people he didn't know and was even less sure he liked. So he wasn't reliable, wasn't especially chummy, certainly not devoted to the cause or even useful at all-

Oh, except when Nika was around, of course. For all his complaints, Aki was relatively certain he did like Nikaio. Or at least was interested enough to care what the Water boy thought about him. So while he usually blew off near everyone's demands and requests for aid or assistance, generally he was less argumentative so long as the young Matorian was in earshot.

Aki couldn't say if the trend was a noticeable one or if people were just getting lucky more frequently.

Either way, it was because of Nika's initial proximity (only minutes later did he realize this wasn't a two-person job) that he found himself some rather lengthy distance from camp, setting traps for the day's food. It was lame, menial work that took him far enough away that he wouldn't be in anyone's hair, but was also simple enough that 'even Akiyal' could manage it without an extra pair of hands. Unfortunately, it wasn't a particularly pleasing task and left him grumpy, muttering, and spitting curses for most of it.

Being a mercenary and following the trails of profit led one to all sorts of places, and Dovev could admit to liking that kind of life very much. It was nice to both have a plan for the day and to also not know what would happen next - a thrilling dichotomy that kept life interesting. In the end, he profited and grew stronger, so the constant newness of life was a welcome bonus.

Dovev was, for the moment, between jobs though he had a lead on a travelling troupe passing through the area. Such groups always needed another arm with a sword, and the reference in his pack should be enough to buy him some trust. Trust was essential, almost as essential as money in such matters.

He could see the tents in the Talean distance, and he approached steadily, unhurriedly. There was no rush.

He inclined his head slightly at the sound of grumbles and mutters and angry sounds - young sounding, but worth investigating. Dealing with a threat preemptively would purchase Dovev even more trust with the troupe, after all. A gift, as it were, to assure them of his intentions.

Upon investigation, of course, it was no threat. Just a windling trying to set traps. Inefficiently. Dovev might have laughed if he was the laughing sort. "Good afternoon." Dovev's voice was clipped and efficient, as usual. "This one wonders if you might require assitance."

Moods tended to impact Akiyal's general attitude about as well as one might expect. Needless to say, this morn found him rather grumpy, and though it was no one's fault but his own, when his gaze wandered up to meet a grossly unwelcome trespasser, he scowled. Surely it wasn't that apparent that he was out of his element? Enough so that passerby- weirdly another Water man; were they really so common around these parts?- would actually feel inclined to stop and come to his aid.

It could've been someone from the troupe, come to help him. He really wasn't especially familiar with the whole bunch, yet, as it hadn't been that long that he'd been with them. And it wouldn't do him any favors to be rude to someone he was trying to live with, as much as he wanted to. Though in all honesty, this guy didn't sound too pleased to be here, either.

Akiyal bit back his instantaneous commentary, 'That one should mind his own business,' and instead grunted out a low, "Guess so. 'Mnot real good with these things. Never done it before."

And he hadn't, he'd never needed to, so it wasn't much his fault for not knowing how. His dad had never showed him, and none of the troupe had given him tips before sending him out. If anyone was to blame here, it was definitely any of those people. Not him. He glanced to the mess of netted ropes, cords, and ties before running his fingers agitatedly through his blond locks. What a pain.

The his attention flicked back to the man. "Yo, you don't look all that familiar. You from the troupe? What's your name?"

"This one would be willing to help, if you wished." Dovev replied politely. "Or at least show you how. It would be a shame to go through such effort for little catch." He offered his hand out for one of the unset traps. "This one will only help if you wish, however." he said, noting the general agitation.

"The troupe?" Yes, he had heard of such a thing. He feigned innocence. "This one is called Dovev, and I am from no troupe. Might they be..." he gestured to the tents.

Akiyal's already sour expression seemed to morph further into agitation. This guy... that one, he was real weird, wasn't he? He'd never heard anyone speak like that, and he didn't really look familiar or even dressed in the attire Aki had come to expect of the troupe. He decided before the guy admitted it that no, he wasn't with them, and the affirmed knowledge somehow made him even less welcome.

"Yeah," he grunted stiffly as Dovev gestured toward their established camping area. Aki's gaze wandered down to the sword at the man's hip. "That's them." He was just one fellow, likely not a problem, but Aki somehow felt he'd need to tell someone. Just in case. It wasn't about to be his fault they were raided.

In the meantime, he might as well take the aid. Distract this guy, accomplish his personal food-catching mission. Seemed like the smart thing to do.

He passed a knot of ropes and branches to Dovev, and wondered if he really did know what he was doing, or if everything Aki had just decided on was about to backfire. "M'names Akiyal. I'm traveling with that dance troupe." He gestured to the tents again. "Can't dance too good, though. Can't do much of nothin' they can do."

"Then what do you do?" Dovev asked, both honestly curious and feeling like giving the boy a little attitude. He took the ropes and branches and looked around for some likely places to put down the snares and actually catch something. Finding one such place, he began to set up a snare. "And, indeed, why don't you try to change that?"

Attitude sounded a little too intense a word for the Water man's query, and even though Akiyal noted a hint of miffed in his own demeanor, he couldn't rightly say he was offended. In fact, most of his irritation came from the knowledge that it wasn't any of this guy's business what he did. Huh, maybe he'd inherited some attitude from his old man, after all.

Akiyal grunted and rolled his shoulders. "Whatever I want," he retorted. "Got a cute boy I'm hunting right now. Figure between me and him, only one of us really needs to know how to dance, and I'd rather it be for me than with me."

Though there probably was still merit in a certain brand of together 'dancing,' now that he thought about it...

He trotted after the Waterling as the man moved to set the trap, then crouched down at his side. Aki clucked his tongue and rolled his shoulders. "Why don't I try to change doing whatever I want?" He scoffed incredulously. "Why would I want to! If things work good enough without, there's not any reason to put effort into changing and fixing anything. I like stuff the way it is. Usually."
