The winner is....Maria and Lillipup!

This battle was a close call, but the dog Pokemon came out on top. Let us review over what was judged and the reason for victory:

- Lillpup used Leer on Zubat causing the bat pokemon to have lower defenses.
- Zubat used Wing Attack a total of 4 times with each attack having a power of 90 after STAB.
- Lillipup has a strong Attack stat of 60 which compared to Zubat's 45 Attack stat, it clearly is stronger.
- Zubat's Adamant nature helped him to compete with Lillipup's natural strength, but Zubat is quite frail with a Defense stat of 35 (Which was lowered furthered by Leer).

In the end, Zubat delivered a lot of damage, but his Defenses meant that he could not take many hits and he was attacked a total of 3 times (One Bite and Two Tackles). Lillipup's Leer had allowed her to dish out more damage to the already frail Zubat. This winner was Lillipup.

Maria knew that Lillipup was tired. She was running out of steam as was Zubat. They’d have to end the battle fast if they wanted to win. At this point the brunette didn’t care so much about winning as she did the pup’s safety. She was hurt and Maria could see it. However they couldn’t give up. Lillipup certainly wouldn’t let her. Looking to Silvano when he mentioned that one of their Pokémon would give in, she nodded her head. “Guess we’ll soon see.” She commented knowing he was right. Maria just hoped that Lillipup would be alright after this.

As Lillipup pushed for what Maria had said was one last tackle, she pushed everything she had into it. When Zubat tucked his wings in it helped take some of the impacted. Not what the two wanted at the moment. Though somehow it didn’t surprise the Flygon that he used a similar tactic to what she’d done earlier. Watching as Zubat got right back up Maria was seriously worried. Lillipup was panting and clearly her leg was bothering her. “Don’t give up Lillipup.” She told her Pokémon sincerely. “Pup!” (Right!) Lillipup barked in understanding. She wasn’t giving up either.

Hearing another wing attack was coming, Maria looked to Lillipup. She knew she wouldn’t be able to out run it. Lillipup glanced back at Maria as if trying to tell her she could take it. “Lillipup stand your ground and use bite.” She called out hesitantly. Getting down on all fours she prepared herself for the hit. Both Maria and Espurr froze watching everything play out in front of them. Getting slammed hard by the force of Zubat’s wing attack, Lillipup pushed back the pain before biting down one of the bat’s frail wings. It wasn’t over yet.

“Now send him flying!” Maria called out keeping herself focused. Lillipup held on tight to Zubat’s wing. With one good leap she put her whole body into a toss, sending the bat Pokémon crashing down to the ground. When the dust cleared Zubat was knocked out. Landing on the ground Lillipup looked from Zubat to Maria and Espurr before barking happily. “You did it!” Maria called to her puppy Pokémon. Espurr who had been covering his eyes at the time, had uncovered them at the sound of Lillipup and Maria’s voices. “Purr…” (You won...) He said curiously yet releaved that his friend has come out on top.

Once the ref announced the winner, Maria and Espurr raced over to Lillipup. Picking the normal type up the Flygon student held her close. “You were great out there Lillipup.” She told her before looking her paw over. “Hopefully we can get that looked at before the next round.” Maria added before looking over to Silvano. “Looks like Lillipup, isn’t pathetic after all.” She told him honestly. Secretly she was delighted that Lillipup had won. It further proved her point. Though she did hope that Zubat was okay regardless of what she had proven. Besides Silvano would never admit she was right never mind just proved him wrong.

Silvano's gaze remained leveled at his pokemon, proud that he had stole one of Maria's tactics from her book, when he had instructed his Zubat to tuck in its wings and absorb Lillipup's Tackle. It was perfect, aside from nearly sending the bat Pokemon bounced against the ground. Hopefully, it meant that Zubat would be able to hold on a little longer as the Battle drew closer to an end. Though, after calling out another Wing attack, it soon became evident that Maria's Pokemon had no intentions on losing.

In utter disbelief, Silvano bit down hard on his lip as he watched Zubat's Wing Attack slam into its target, but not without falling prey to the Pup Pokemon's jaws when Maria had called out her next move. Just like that, Lillipup was able to endure Zubat's all-in attack and clamp down onto one of the Poison-Type's wings. Another high-pitched shriek pierced the air as Zubat was now at the Pup's mercy. "How can this be?" Silvano gasped, unable to comprehend how Maria's pup Pokemon was still standing after Zubat's final attack and how it now had his pokemon in a bind. A mixture of disappointment and animosity washed over Silvano as he looked on uselessly as Maria commanded her Lillipup to toss the helpless creature snared in its teeth. Crashing down against the ground, no more than just a few feet in front of him, his Zubat appeared unable to move as it laid still on its back, its fanged mouth agape.

Silvano could hardly believe the scene that had unfolded before his eyes. He would have pinched himself, had he not been so certain this was the reality he faced. His Zubat had lost to Maria's Lillipup. It was evident not only by the condition of his Pokemon, but also the sound of the Referee's voice making his decision, declaring Maria as the winner. It was all too abhorrent to the once proud Salamence who was so sure of his win. He barely wanted to acknowledge Maria's celebration with her Pokemon, the sounds of her congratulating them made his want to vomit. Trying his best to block out everything else around him, Silvano reluctantly removed his Zubat's Pokeball from his bag before making his way over to his Pokemon's side, while dragging his feet. As he was about to recall the unconscious pokemon, he was distracted by Maria voice, despite trying in earnest to block it out. Narrowing his eyes, he shot daggers at her when she told him that Lillipup wasn't so pathetic after all -- effectively making him eat his words. Inwardly, this made Silvano's blood boil. He could just barely hang onto his calm composure now. "I suppose you're right, Maria. Maybe Lillipup isn't the pathetic Pokemon..." He grudgingly spoke up, his anger only beginning to rise in his voice as his demeanor darkened. It was useless to try and stop himself now. He had snapped. "Instead... it's this useless, ungrateful, FAILURE, RIGHT HERE!!" Drawing back his leg, Silvano slammed his foot into the side of his frail Zubat, sending the poor creature tumbling to the ground a few meters in front of him, leaving the Pokemon even more battered than he already was.

Inhaling and exhaling deeply and rapidly, Silvano fought to calm himself as he watched the dust clear from his pokemon. He didn't feel not one ounce of guilt towards his actions and didn't care who saw it. By now, the Reff had already left and much of the stadium was probably distracted by other things. As for Maria's reaction, he didn't know. He was too focused on his anger to be aware of too much else going on. Pointing his Pokeball at his Zubat, the seething aristocrat recalled the broken pokemon back into its Pokeball before turning on his heel and storming off. He his conceited nature made it impossible to look Maria in the face, let alone congratulate her on her win. If he ha been a better person, he might have even wish her luck and promised to cheer for her. However, he wasn't. He was much too selfish and self absorbed to do the right thing...

Both combatants had clearly displayed their fighting spirit! Neither Pokemon nor Trainer had showed any signs of giving up during their battle. The excitement in the air was certainly palpable and was only amplified by large audience that overlooked the battlefield. The amount of energy within the stadium was truly an amazing spectacle all on its own. Some members of the audience waved colourful banners, while others stood up from their spot in the bleachers with hands cupped to their mouth, fervently giving loud cheers that rose above the rest. But that was nothing compared to the excitement that was to come.

Once Oliver observed one of the two combatant's Pokemon collapse, his decision had been made. Taking a step forward from his place at the edge of the arena, Oliver kept both flags down at his sides, before taking in a deep breath. An expert in his field, Oliver was proud to announce this battle's winner. "Alright, this battle has come to a close." His bright eyes lit up as his clear voice projected through the small mic he wore on his ear, commanding the attention of the entire stadium. "The Winner is..." Raising his right hand, he pointed his green flag at the only Pokemon still standing. "Maria Taylor and Lillipup!" Suddenly, a loud roar had erupted from the audience, as cheers and applauds dominated the air around both young trainers. Although both Pokemon had fought adamantly and had given their all, it was a shame only one could walk way a winner. "Maria will be moving on to the next round. Stay tuned folks for what's come!"

Lowering his flag, Oliver soon expressed his personal congratulations to the winner and prepared to take a small break before judging the next battle in the long lineup of matches. He truely had his work cut out for him.
