Colourist: Dusty
Name Meaning [Origin]: Fire Guardian [Swahili]
Pride [Rank]: N/a [Rogue]

Mate: Kinagiri [Ecavi]
Surviving family members: Kidondo, Kafele, Mawasii
Status: Deceased

Personal Profile: A gruff, loyal and protective lion who sought to make something of himself through the art of war and battle. Though caught up in often precarious situations, his heart was deeply loving.

Brief History: Hakan was born on the borders of the Pridelands to a rogue lioness Kinja - the ex-queen of the infamous Firekin. He, along with his brother and sister, were raised by their elderly mother in a loving and kind environment. However, Hakan - being the oldest boy and not having a father - seemed to take it upon himself to protect his family, loving them more than life itself. In his quest to become stronger, he came across the God of War, Mrost. Hakan was instantly curious about this deity and it did not take long for the God to encourage Hakan to join him. By becoming a follower, Hakan also received training in return, rising to becoming an esteemed soldier. He kept this side of his life, however, a secret from his family, afraid that it might upset his mother. He had, after all, given his soul to the God in return for the strength to protect her. It is clear that his bond with the God all but stripped his childhood from him and his unwavering loyalty earned him high respect. It also enabled him to travel far and wide, even visiting the Firekin Lands under the guise of Kaa.

During his time on Prideland borders, he began to find a hatred for them for the way they lived. Fat, lazy lions with no respect of anything. Even still, despite these negative feelings towards the land, he was drawn to one female, by the name of Mbaya. She was a curious creature, angry and fierce, untameable as the wind. Hakan'mawasii did not like her for she was difficult to control and impossible to submit to his will. Perhaps it was this which eventually carved a grudging respect for her. Either way, they mated and she bore him four children.

Much to his shame, Hakan'mawasii was not around in the lives of all of his children. He travelled with his only daughter for a long time and, would eventually bump into a half-mad Mbaya and one of his sons, Mwako. But other than that, they did not truly exist to him.

As Hakan grew he learned that no matter how strong he got, he could not protect Kinja from her own mortality. This realisation stung him and bitter and angry, unable to face his own failure, he struck off alone in an attempt to find a way to save her. But he never found the answer and when he returned to his birth place, his family were gone, lost to him, perhaps forever.

He would have fallen into despair there and then if it were not for meeting the lovely female of the swamplands, by the name of Aushi. Quite taken with her, Hakan agreed to aid her on her naming quest, spending much time with her. However, this friendship was not given time to bud into anything sweeter, Hakan unwilling to join a pride. They separated and did not meet again.

He slipped into solitude, relying on no one, trusting no one. He fought and protected the lands he dwelled in, moving on at short intervals, always looking for the family he had lost. It was during this time that he finally met with a young juvenile firekin, Rap. He was suffering with the grief of the loss of a mother, and after hearing this grief, Hakan decided to take on the boy and teach him. He came out of his shell a little, passing on all his knowledge to Rap and helping him grow, vowing also to help him avenge his mother's death.

They grew together, looking to one another as father and son, and, preparing to set off for Rap's homeland, the journey was faltered by Hakan being attacked by a rogue. Injured, they delayed their journey, though his delay allowed Hakan to meet with Kinagiri. He was taken with her almost immediately and though he was not one to romance or charm, they appeared very well suited. Rap, seeing this, encouraged Hakan to tell her how he felt before they left for the Firekin lands. Hakan agreed and, though the three little words didn't exactly get spoken, it was clear they both felt something for one another. Certainly, if Hakan had survived, their romance would have blossomed.

Before leaving with Rap, they had agreed to meet up again and go on a hunt for Hakan's family. Feeling finally as if life was turning good again, Hakan left her and journeyed out to the desert. It was here, in these harsh lands that Hakan fought with the male Azarax and died in his attempt to save Rap from the same fate.

Colourist: Dusty
Name Meaning [Origin]: Pride [Swahili]
Pride [Rank]: Motoujamii [Slave]

Mate: Zenoni
Surviving family members: Jini'pomoka, Ruia, Yoninah
Status: Deceased

Personal Profile: A dreamer and an optimist, even when dark things happened, she still had a way of finding the silver-lining. Despite being small and gentle, she had a true survivor's will, battling to the end.

Brief History: Born to Mahiri and Bakhti of the pridelands Kiburi has been brought up like a little princess. She knew nothing but love and security and had never really felt fear or sadness. It is this that perhaps made her most naive. She was extraudinarily close to her brother Mchele, adoring him and thinking him a best friend. The Pridelands was wonderful and she did adore it and often thought of it later in life. However, she quickly decided it was not the place for her. She was a dreamer and as such she wanted adventure! Her parents, however, were not so happy and her mother took her on a trip to try and put her off. But it did not work. Kiburi had her heart set and, when she grew to adolescent, she bade a tearful farewell to her family, promising to return to them soon. But such things were not meant to be. Kiburi never set eye upon her homeland again. Tricked by the God of Nightmares, Baku, she wandered into Firekin territory shortly after her journey began and was enslaved to the Firekin King, Kimeti.

But slavery, whilst it might kill others, brought out a strength in Kiburi that she had never known she had. She found in that terrible place, a sister she came to adore, and a nephew that her sister birthed. She lived to protect them from the hungry Firekin claws and made them her family. It was here, also, that she met her future mate Zenoni, a bratty little child she took under her wing. It was in protecting him that she gained the worst of her scars.

As time passed, however, Kiburi's health began to decline. The lack of food, the hot sun and her increasing number of injuries taking their toll on her petite body. Slowly but surely, Kiburi felt the life leaving her. All the confidence she had had as a youth was being squished, leaving her with a stutter and a terrible limp. However, one day, completely out of the blue, Uumikaji - a childhood friend from the Pridelands, happened across the borders and it brought about a sudden desperate need for Kiburi to keep going, to keep the promise that she had made to her family so long ago.

Shortly after this, Kiburi and Zenoni sealed their love, admitting their feelings for one another. A few days later Kidondo, the prince of the firekin, made plans for Kiburi's escape. The plan suceeded and Kiburi struck out again into rogue lands. It was in rogue lands that she came across a relative of hers, an aunt, who told her that her family did not wish to see her again, and distraught, Kiburi decided to go to Kusini'mwezi lands to stay with her childhood friend. However, shortly after this, her brother Mchele came to her and told her that it was all some misunderstanding. Together they set out, just in time to find out that their mother, Bahkti, had been struck down. They were there when she died and Kiburi pined desperately. She returned alone to Kusini where she discovered she was also pregnant with Zenoni's cubs. It was this blessing that would eventually spell Kiburi's end.

Childbirth took a great toll on her body and, a few weeks after birthing her six, beautiful children, she finally passed away.

Colourist: Meepfur
Name Meaning [Origin]: Burst into Flames [Swahili]
Pride [Rank]: Motoujamii [Storyteller]

Mate: Danzi [Andranis]
Surviving family members: Rap, Uddhava, Khet
Status: Deceased

Personal Profile: An old female stuck in her ways, she chooses to turn a blind eye if she does not want to see something. Gruff and vicious, she tries to stay faithful to the beliefs of her parents and live up to their reputations.

Brief History: When the day of the Firekin were at their strongest and their reign supreme a blessing was placed upon Paytah and his mate. A lone daughter was born, and a beauty at that. They named her Ripuka, meaning 'burst into flame' and there they raised her under the rules of tradition. She lived out her young days learning the ways of the warrior, understanding her power and the sign of her red coat. She was proud to be a firekin and was devoted to the pride.

It was on a day when the sun was high and the temperature hot when Ripuka was first approached by the rogue lion. His great form was as sandy as the desert around them and his eyes were as blue as the oasis. It was those eyes that enchanted her. Never before had she felt like this, her heart beat wildly within her chest and she felt drawn to him in a way she had to no other. Ripuka had fallen in love. Yet despite this she knew that what she felt was wrong, that no rogue could ever be welcomed into the pride. Her love for this male was treachery and she would be called traitor by her family and friends. However she met with him each day, thinking with her heart more than her mind.

One day when her father approached her and spoke of the strange scent that lingered her form that she realised what she had been doing. Stricken with fear she replied that she had killed a rogue that had been lurking on the border. Paytah believed her. The next day she returned to her rogue and told him to leave. Their love had to end, that much was clear.

She never saw him again.

It was a few weeks later that she noticed the slight bulge in her belly and felt the movement within her before she realised the extent of her treachey. Terrified of being slaughtered by the ones she loved she considered leaving before the signs of her pregnancy became clear. It was at around this time that Kinja appeared, a lioness who claimed to be a lost member of the pride.

On the night that Ripuka had chosen to leave a strange sight appeared before her. A lion with wings of mist and eyes that held rainbows within them. She would never forget his mischievious expression or the way his fur shimmered under the moonlight.

"Daughter of the firekin, why do you wander at the border?"

"A daughter of fire no longer I'm afraid." She grimaced, not daring to look back.

"Then I can help you."

"How?"

"I have magic that can stop the pride from following you, a magic that will save your life." He chuckled.

"Why help me?"

"Why not?" He yawned and spread his wings, a strange glow encasing his large frame. "I am the Lost God. They have forgotten you. Now you can be free."

"W-what do you mean forgotten me?" Ripuka snarled, lowering her position a little.

"Your time with them is lost. Now I must become lost once more." And as quickly as the great lion had appeared, he was gone.

With a heavy heart the crimson lioness moved across the desert, never once looking back to the pride that she loved. She lived as a rogue and walked the lands alone, struggling to hunt with her swollen belly. It was when she was close to starving that the cubs were born, two sons with clear markings of their father imprinted on their fur. In a rage, Ripuka tore them apart, the blood of her children staining her maw. It was their fault that she was alone now, their fault she was a traitor. Then she moved once more, the shadow in the dark.

She spent many a day in the rogue lands, half-maddened from her experiences and the loss of her family and friends. She got into fights, taunted 'inferior' rogues and spent a good deal of time wishing nothing more than to go home. Thus it was that she overheard the rumours of her pride failing, hit by the plague and lacking good bloodlines in which to breed. At hearing this, she threw caution to the wind and returned, wanting to help where she could. She found the pride in a sorry state and sought to help, taking a mate in a male by the name of Maka'kali, a pridelander pretending to be a Firekin. They had their first litter whom they raised to all be strong Firekin, all except for their youngest who bore a tan pelt. Afraid and confused, Ripuka could not bear to kill another child and entrusted him to the slaves, abandoning him. He would not find out who his mother was until he was all but grown. She also set about teaching the traditions to the heir, Prince Kidondo. However, it seemed these teachings were in vain, for as he grew, he was found to have fallen in love with his 'slave' and thus throwing the rules to the wind. He was outcast and Ripuka was left heartbroken for the boy she had thought a son.

Then the day came of his return and she was there to witness it. He came with an army of rogues, in the colours of Firekin, but not of the blood. Enraged, she moved to kill him but was thwarted by one of his followers. The rage that ensued was bloody, seeing her the loser and she moved off, wounded and despairing at the loss of all that she had loved, crying out for Finar-Si's aid. But the Goddess did not come to their aid and she, along with the other traditionalists, were cast out to make a new home. It was during this time that Ripuka birthed her second litter and, again, another was born with an unnatural pelt of gold. She could not bear the pain of it and refused to name him, distant and cold. Not knowing what else to do, she waited for him to be weaned and then stole away with him. She planned to deliver him to her son living with Kidondo and the other rebels. Alas, she never arrived. She was cut down by the daughter of an ex-slave Kiburi and her mate and when they were gone she dragged herself and her son to the Firekin borders where she died, surrounded by old friends, finally seeing the light.

Colourist: Meepfur
Name Meaning [Origin]: Anchor [Swahili]
Pride [Rank]: Pridelands [Hunter]

Mate: Maawio
Surviving family members: Beshtetu, Ayk, Leeora, Kengee, Endesha
Status: Deceased

Personal Profile: A lady's man, Amari is a charmer and a flirt and remained so even after committing himself to his life mate, Maawio. A gentle and laid-back kind of fellow, he started life as a bit of a fighter but mellowed with age to become a true family lion.

Brief History: Amari was the youngest cub of three sons, born to a rogue lioness in an unknown land he had to fight for his food and gain respect. This constant fighting to survive finally drove Amari from the only home he knew, leaving his pride and home he traveled the world searching for a new haven and friends he can share his life with. It was on his travels that he found the Pridelands and the beautiful golden lioness that dwelled within it's borders. Her name was Maawio and at first glance he loved her. They were so in love that perhaps he was blinded by faults in his behaviour and by the time they were both adults and had a son he realised something had gone wrong. He flirted with more and more lionesses and in the end upset his mate so badly she left him.

But as with all things that are meant to be, the two made up and had another litter of five beautiful cubs.

Life since then has been pretty uneventful but it has been full and Amari has learned to love those he calls family. Maawio is everything to him and he loves her more than any other.

Yet, with both of them growing older, Amari becomes more and more concerned for the future that is creeping up on them and one day Maawio leaves to find Mbari, leaving Amari in complete distress for her whereabouts. Finally after a week had passed, Amari comes to realise that she has probably died and in terrible pain from her loss, leaves the Pridelands for the first time in many years. He returns to visit an old friend in the Kusini'mwezi before taking to the lifestyle of a rogue once more. However, soon after, his son Chunuka sought and found him, delivering the good news that Maawio was well and waiting for him at home. And so life returned to normality, the pair growing old together. Shortly after, hyenas attacked the pridelands and Amari, fearing Maawio dead, passed away of his wounds.
