Kimeti, last born son of Kidondo and No and the only cub in the litter, shuffled his paws in the sand before seating himself. The morning was fresh and new and his lesson had been scheduled to begin - and end - before it became too hot to concentrate. He was a young and newly qualified teacher and though this wasn't his first class, it was made all the more stressful due to the fact that his eldest sister was there to ensure his lessons were accurate.

She was lying a few paces away in the shade of a rock, her chin on her paws and shoulders hunched as if she would rather be elsewhere. Still, there would be no telling her that she could leave if she liked. Fia was as duty-bound as any of his family members - his parents included - and there would be no shifting her.

He cleared his throat and called out - a loud, gruff sound to grab the attention of his students. They were from a variety of backgrounds and both young and old, here to learn about the pride. Some might have mocked him for his lack of military aspirations but teaching the future generations was an important duty, particular when there was to be more change ahead now that his parents had reluctantly stepped down.

"We'll begin the lesson shortly. Gather round, please."

Mircea trotted to wear he was supposed to go today. He had been assigned to be a guard, but before he could go out and do his... duties, he had to learn more about the pride first. He had just entered and had passed in his duel, however he hadn't learned much. So far it had just been finding a place to sleep and doing what he was told.

He hoped that this lesson would help. He didn't want to be a burden. He finally found the area, with what seemed to be a red lion at the front commanding the attention. Mircea noticed that everyone there was starting to settle themselves, and made sure to sit in the back so that he did not block anyone's vision.

User Image Ud was the first cub to perk up when Kimeti had announced he'd be giving a lesson on the history of the pride. Although young, the little Firekin knew he was destined for great things and in order to succeed he needed to know what had happened before he was born. His mother would constantly say that history repeats itself, so if he knew a bunch of history he'd be able to figure out what was going to happen in the future. Right?

As the older Firekin told those gathered to huddle up, Ud scooted right to the front, sitting directly before the large male. He looked up at him with wide eyes, his tail curling around his paws. It was a wonder he was sitting still. Usually he was bouncing all over the place, getting into scraps with his siblings and even chasing some of the meeker adolescents.

The white and grey lion had made his way to the pride to learn, and there seemed to be no shortage of opportunities to learn. He'd taken up a post as a medic, where he was learning about the art, and during his attempts to join the Firekin he had learned a lot about fighting. Still, he figured he didn't know much about the pride outside of the rumors and whispers that circulated the land beyond their desert home, so when the opportunity arose to learn more about the history of the lions of the sand he'd made his way eagerly to the lesson area. Of course, he didn't appear as keen as perhaps some of the younger lions, but his mind was ready to absorb new information.

Zuka was glad at his choice of home so far. Sure, some of them were loud and liked to fight a bit too much, but there was a lot of rich history and a lot to be learned, and that was what he was most excited about. He was also happy by the fact that the teacher for today was a child of the former Regents. Surely he would know a lot more than most.

He sat, patiently, not too close, but not too far back so that he would miss out on what was being said, and awaited the beginning of the lesson.

Agnimukha arrived, huffing and puffing as if she had been running. A large female born outside of the pride - but half Firekin through her father's side - she was a new(ish) and eager member of the pride. Normally lessons like this wouldn't have been her thing but she had no schedule today and she preferred company over solitude.

She'd been pondering on whether to come or not for a while, leaving it until last minute to make up her mind.

"Has it started yet?" she asked loudly, drawing a few looks - though not seeming to notice them.

--

Kimeti gave a patient smile and shook his head. "Just about to."

Then, clearing his throat he shifted his weight so that he was positioned more comfortably on the sand and began.

"Please feel free to ask questions as we go. Anything I cannot answer will be answered by our scholar, Fia. Today I'll give a brief summary of the Firekin's history right up to recent day events with the vote of our new regents, Agni-pariksha and Tapana."

"Back when the Firekin were ruled by the magnificent, tyrannical Makadari, the pride was known for its bloodthirst and was feared for it. They led their lives in a stricter fashion than we do now. Rogues were not permitted membership and trespass was met with death. Pelts were red, black and white; a symbol of who they were and, it is said, came about as these were the colours bought about by their goddess Finar-Si, who was worshipped by all members of that time."

ooc note: feel free to have characters ask questions or whisper amongst themselves to keep this interesting.

Ud didn't know much about goddesses, but he did know that they weren't talked about much within the pride since he had never heard the word outside of some whispered conversation not long ago.

"What's a goddess?" he asked, completely unashamed with his lack of knowledge. He was a cub, after all! Was a goddess some type of ruler? Maybe that's what they had back then, Makadari and this goddess that brought their colors. Ud was very proud of his 'traditional colors' that he had been complimented on by some of the older Firekin, and now it was starting to make a bit more sense. There were those with oranges and yellows, and some that went around without a speck of red to be seen on them. but it seemed many many years ago, as Kimeti had said, they were more strict on the appearance of the pride.
