Za’Vira took her leave and went into the market for a few things, some for herbs that were available, and a few things for a meal she would enjoy before she went to check on Cassius. It was only as she was leaving the marketplace that someone caught up with her and told her that Cass had been hurt which made her rush to his home immediately.

Za’Vira rushed in and nearly ran into someone who was closing in on the stairs to go upstairs at which point had given her pause and looked at him sternly “what are you doing, Cassius is not available” Frost looked at her surprised and replied “I followed his scent from the cave I found him at” surprised she just brushed by him and replied “why was he at a Cave?” as she darted up the stairs to his room and found someone else there “what are you doing in here he needs his rest” she moved past the man there and just sat down on the bed next to Cass and checked him, finding he was much more injured than she was informed and just pulled out the herbs she had bought and considered a simple herbal bandage that would allow for him to heal, as she worked she didn’t look at either man who was in the room and asked with irritation “what happened to him, he wasn’t in such poor condition the last time I saw him, why wasn’t I notified sooner than moments ago?” she worked what she could with what she had having a good idea as to what was needed she simply barked orders without hesitation and before anyone could reply to her question “one of you go down stairs into the kitchen and get me a bowl of warm water as well as clean cloth, there is a medicinal remedy that I made for him collect that as well, and be quick. Her hands glowed slightly as she puts herbs into a mortar and starts working them together all the while whispering a chant for divine power which she infused into the medicinal remedy she was forming, just as she looked up the man who she had bumped into downstairs was standing there with the bowl of water and herbal remedy she had made for his migraines and simply took them both, the concoction while basic combined would at least promote natural healing especially when infused with divine magic, and simply worked on cleaning him up noting the bandages he already had and simply glanced over at the two men and replied “whoever put those on at least knew what they were doing but in the future I would like to be told when someone is hurt before their condition gets to be too serious” Frost didn’t say anything since he wasn’t really sure what to say since he had found him in the cave he was worried but it didn’t show on his face. Za’Vira continued “I expect someone to keep an eye on him while he recovers, I’m tending to someone else at the Leatherworker shop who was attacked and thankfully survived, so I’m not going to be able to look after him and her at the same time, I will try to come by as time allows to check on his progress but I won’t be able to pull away from the other as often.”

Doc gave a disgruntled growl over her high-handedness and crossed his arms with a glare for her, "Considering that I'm an actual doctor, I would like to think that I know what I'm doing with a patient. Second, he was shot after your treatment of his migraine and suffered the loss of both of his mates. He received some magical healing but interrupted it to be a stubborn idiot. I had a feeling that the Church was preparing to take him out and came to the island prepared for the nasty cocktail they used on him. The reason I'm still here after treating him is to make sure he doesn't do anything more than lifting a spoon for the next four days," he informed the female in a biting tone that showed that she'd jumped in too deep before getting relevant information.

He turned to look Frost over for a moment then made a decision, "And it looks like his second babysitter is here so we're safe there," he added before turning back to her

By now, his usual brown eyes were shifting into a pale blue as he suppressed his temper, "So the next time you start barking, female, you'd better get your information first instead of being an insulting b***h," he added with a deeper growl that showed just how upset she'd made him

He collected his bags then turned and headed for the stairs but paused at the door briefly, "Besides, if you think I do anything but my best work for a friend I've known for the better part of four centuries, you've lost what's left of your mind," he finished then headed down the stairs, revealing that Cassius was both a patient and a friend.

Doc knew that the bandages were perfect, as were the stitches underneath. Even the sickly green veins were beginning to fade from around the wounds, though it would still take days for Cassius to fully heal, then weeks to reach his full strength.

The Church had been fully intent on killing the beautiful siren, after all....

Za’Vira’s stopped what she was doing and stood up as the man started going off on her, unaware that her divine magic was starting to resonant from her eyes as he started to leave, the room starting to glow a soft light that was gentle on the eyes and warm on the skin “up until two days ago there weren’t any healers here, someone here sought me out right after arriving in this village, and if someone had said something sooner than a few minutes ago I could have done something much more substantial to help” the glow was starting to consume her eyes entirely as her temper soured an angry purr lacing her words as she continued “I heard all the fighting but didn’t know where it was at up until yesterday when I was rushed over to a different home on the border of town which is where I’ve been tending to injuries there and have been until sometime ago when one of the villagers relieved me for a moment so that I could look after my needs before returning to my charge” the glow emanating a strong divine magic reflected on those around her, those whose injuries were present started to heal, any fatigue vanishing as the light came and went as she collected her belongings and left the room to make her way back to Layla. Her temper calming as she went unaware of any impact she might have had on those around her as her temper soured, she ignored the man who went off on her and just checked her belongings making sure what herbs she had would be enough for Layla but also for her since she was going to be making use of the kitchen that was there and had collected a few things for a simply stew she liked to make, consisting of fish and some vegetables, and simply headed back to the shop to relieve the villager.

Frost stayed out of the argument and when everyone left he simply sat down in the chair next to the bed and watched Cassius with interests aware of the fact that any exhaustion he had had disappeared when the cat woman had glowed of light. He wasn’t sure what had happened but he wasn’t going to question it at the moment until after things were much calmer.

Doc went out the back door and thoroughly inspected the body of the one that Tiny had killed. He knelt beside the body and pulled the jacket off then went over the body completely. It took him a bit but he finally found what he needed. He left the body in place and headed inside and upstairs. He was only carrying one of his bags this time as well as the jacket from the body.

He paused for a moment to check on Cassius, noting how much he'd been healed from Za'Vira's magic. He finally looked at the male sitting beside the bed, noting the insignias on his clothing. He gave a heavy sigh and ran a hand through his hair, "My friends and I came to check on Cass. We found another man here. Well, Tiny found him. Up here," he offered the jacket, "He was wearing this," he let the man look it over, knowing that he'd recognize the officer's rank and note the name on it, "He had something else... It's why Tiny killed the b*****d..." he added then opened his bag and lifted out the revolver, passing it over, "You'll want to look at the bullets," he suggested.

He'd already looked them over. He knew that one was for Cassius. One was likely for the elf he'd heard about. The others were for different targets, one bullet for each.

He waited in silence for a long moment then he looked down at Cassius and gently moved a lock of that white hair out of the mermaid's face with a soft sigh, "You know... Cass convinced me to go to medical school... Most of my den owe their lives to him. We all know it. He was the first one to tell us about this place. But he's taken numerous hits... He's swum just about every body of water. He's seen a lot of crap. He's been attacked by the Church numerous times. More than what most of the people here know about. They've been going after him for a long time..." he said softly then pulled something else from his bag that he put into Cassius's hand and tucked it where it couldn't be seen.

Then he got to his feet and closed his bag, picking it up and slowly heading for the door where he paused, "Just to let you know... They added something else to the rounds... Something new based on something old... The old CDC was working on a so called vaccine... One that would eliminate anything not human. I don't know how they found it or how they changed it but they've added it to the rounds they're using on the island here. Thankfully, I had someone tell me about it, give me a sample of it. I was able to work up a counter to it. I have to go treat an elf with it. Then I have to find out who else I have to treat up at the castle. Cassius should be fine now. Just don't let him do much for a couple of days," he told him simply then headed back downstairs.

He collected his other bags and headed for the inn to tell Tiny and Dix that he had another patient to look at then he'd be heading for the castle. On the way, he found Rex in the marketplace and explained it all to him. In order to give Layla the proper dosage, he had to see her. That meant dealing with Za'Vira again... But this time, he had something else to offer her that might keep her off his back.


About an hour after Doc left, Cassius gave a groan and shifted in the bed, frowning as he raised his hand to his head. After a moment, he blinked open his lavender eyes. The first thing he saw was the painting above his bed of himself in his mermaid form with a sunset coloring the water around him. It was beautiful and was something that showed him that someone had found him beautiful.

He turned his head and blinked as he noticed Frost sitting beside the bed. He looked over the man's features and found himself very enticed. He finally gave a drowsy smile, "Well this is a pleasant sight to wake up to," he said soflty and blinked as he turned his head again, "I'm usually the one doing the seducing... But I think I'll give someone else the chance to seduce me for a change," he added before frowning as he noticed something in his other hand and raised it to look at it.

It was a carved gem he'd done ages ago. He'd done a bear out of a very rare black diamond, "I see Doc was here," he murmured, "I'll have to give this back to him later... I have to get the energy to reset the spells on it first," he said to himself as he lowered that hand and blinked up at the painting again.

That painting never ceased to amaze him... While he knew he was beautiful, he still had is vanity issues. For someone to see him as something beautiful enough to paint like that, it meant a great deal to him.

He blinked again and turned to look at the man next to him, "Frost, right?" he asked, wanting to confirm that he was remembering correctly.
