The streets were busy today, filled with the usual bustling crowds of business men heading out to work, housewives going to market, and children venturing off to school; yet for all their clamour during such activities not a single person moved in this very instant. Like a polished gem the sun gleamed off the silver limo as it traversed the streets, the last sight the word "GENN" on the licence plate as it turned the corner.

Stopping in front of the Academy, a sharp dressed butler would open back most door, and out would step a young man with skin pale nearly as snow and ashen hair. Blinking against the sunlight, the youth would run a hand through his hair to brush aside his bangs...an act which cause an abrupt squeal to erupt from the crowd gathered about the limo. Raven Illiaster Forlorn, a man who despised his own name, stifled a groan. It was like this every morning, ever since he'd first arrived at Akumu. His 'fan club' a wide assortment of girls from various age groups and a startling number of young men, gathered every morning to greet him; usually attempting to trample one another to do it first. As usual Artemis and Roza were first, the delinquent pair quite literally beating down their competition. Artemis, a rather tall thin girl with short blue hair and a surprisingly big mouth, more talk than substance; apparently she'd been a rather pudgy youth. Roza on the other hand was short, a delinquent to the root, her blond hair slashed with green and flecks of black, a number of piercings visible here and there across what showed of her body. There had been three of them one, another girl with purple hair and scars by the name of Mariette...she unlike these two however had transferred out after the filing of the restraining order. All three of them weren't allowed within one hundred feet of him outside of school.

Shouldering his bag, Raven suppressed a sigh and proceeded towards the main building; the crowd quite literally parting to let him through. Apparently escaping the curse that was his family name would be impossible even this far away...

Practice had been cancelled today due to the floors being refinished, so after travelling to the men's room to straighten the collar of his uniform Raven proceeded directly to class, taking his seat by the window second from the back. Another long day was no doubt about to begin.

Jasmine felt self-conscious.

Then again, it was likely understandable when she stood at that entrance and looked between herself and the other students. For one she certainly couldn't afford the official uniforms of the Academy herself, it was grades alone that had won her a grant here, but she certainly hadn't won any other funds with it.

The organisers at the orphanage had certainly tried to ensure she looked as nice as possible, dressed in a gray knee length skirt and sweater, framing a high collared shirt and fully fluffed out red ribbon, but it did little to distract from the face that the girl was mostly a mass of bandages. She could attempt to hide it as best she could with layers of clothing, a scarf like shawl addorning her head, the sweater, stockings, but there was the peek of gauze on her hands, the sheer material of her leggings showing the imprint, and certainly, one half of her face to boot visibly wrapped.

Couple that with her crutch of the braces holding her legs together, she certainly looked out of place, but still, she tried to smile somewhat awkwardly as she couldn't help but notice the looks she would receive.

Still... maybe it would be a good conversation starter? So she convinced herself at least as she made her way through the Academy crowd. At least she was half right. She certainly started conversations, just sadly none of them involved an invitation to her to speak.

By the time she had reached her class, she welcomed any distraction she could get, sitting down finally and removing her backpack to take a seat, a little slowly as she adjusted the lock on her braces to awkwardly sit down and fold her crutches underneath the chair as well.

"Well..." She reassured herself, lighting her smile once again, "Today's a new day..."

Right before the paper crumpled ball bounced off the back of her head.

"Done~"

Vanni leaned over the vanity, giving her appearance a once-over. Short brown hair cut in a bob, grey-and-white uniform prim and pressed, shoes buffed clean, just the slightest touch of makeup (enough to cover imperfections without looking like there was much makeup on at all)... the closest thing that looked out of place was a warm, green ribbon tied in a neat bow in her hair. She looked... blank. Like a doll. Tilting her head to the side, she smiled, a cheerful and slightly out of touch appearance. The more collected and normal she looked, the more she could afford eccentricities-- and more importantly, the more normal she felt.

Not that she'd ever particularly minded weirdness-- here she glanced back at her still-sleeping roommate, a picture of serene and currently silenced insanity. But this was a new school her auntie was sending her two, with a new start. It wouldn't be right to go about life the way she'd been: wandering strangely, talking to people who didn't exist, staring out into space for hours on end without reason. She had to pretend she was a normal person-- at least in public. And more importantly, she had to do so without looking like it was too much effort. Sprezzatura, Auntie had called it once-- putting effort into to appearing to be effortless in decorum. And, she thought as she gave an experimental twirl, she at least looked the part of a lady.

Thus satisfied, she took a step back and picked up her mug of tea, white tea with fireweed honey. Vanni sighed, enjoying the gentle, warm, steadying sweetness as it rolled through her body. She was going to need this... as she looked at the bottle of pills on her dresser, which she swore stared back at her. New medication-- new meds to help calm the shaking, calm the panic, calm the voices. She put the tea to her lips, resisting the urge to give an unladylike groan. Doctor Culann promise that this new drug would work, and it wouldn't make her black out or anything else awkward. Truth be told, she hated the way most of her meds made her feel-- drowsy and blank, like a literal doll. What she'd do not to have to take it... She sighed, leaning forward, and placed the tea back on her dresser.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw something huge and dark creeping to the left of the mirror, not quite substantial. The swirling curves seemed to make a smile, with the barest hit of teeth. Vanni... my sweet baby girl, don't you miss me? Come home...

THUNK!

A definitely unladylike curse escaped her lips this time as she scrambeld to grab her tea mug before it hit the group. Fortunately, it didn't crash against the ground, but the hot liquid slipped over her fingers. Biting back several more violent swears (what would Auntie think?), Vanni made quick work, mopping up the tea and carefully cleaning her now-red fingers. " "Gloves... gloves are in season, aren't they?" she murmured, quickly pulling a white pair onto her now-trembling hands. The redness would fade, there would be no scarring, but she needed a bandaid of sorts, and this would work. This time, she didn't think: she picked up the bottle, grabbed a pill, and swallowed it down. For a moment, she stood there and just looked into the mirror.

Nothing. The expanse of the room, Momo sleeping on the other bed, completely unaware.

Good. Vanni gave a soft sigh, back under control. Quickly, she cleaned her vanity, making sure to hide the pills-- not reason to have Momo worried after her. Her dear roommate would be awake soon enough-- she always liked sleep a little too much, and Vanni rose before the sun. She picked up her school back, an over-the-shoulder number. Before leaving, she placed a thermos of cold green tea on Momo's bed table along with a piece of melonpan. She then took off, leaning their shared room for the crowd of the school. The anonymity was comforting in it's strange way. Vanni would be normal-- or she would look the part.
