I used to cut myself out of depression, but then I got over it. Now I do it when I'm bored.

Cutting yourself is definitely an addiction. When you cut yourself, your brain releases endorphins. Endorphins are a chemical in your brain that make you feel a sense of well-being, hence feeling relieved when you cut yourself. Your brain becomes conditioned to this false sense of happiness and craves it. It also doesn't help that the more you act on an urge, the more the impulses return.

I'm not calling you crazy. I was a compulsive cutter for approximately three years before I stopped. I'm telling you this from experience: the way to stop cutting yourself (or to prevent urges) is to figure out situations that cause you to feel like cutting yourself and then develop healthy coping strategies to go about these negative feelings.

Good luck and I wish for the best! <3User Image

Honestly, I don't think depression is a mental illness. I believe depression to be a state of mind that seems impossible to break out of. From experience, I can say that it is possible to get out of that state of mind, but it takes a lot of work.

Sad people aren't sick neutral They just need to find a way to deal with their feelings.User Image

i used to cut, but now i'm really strict on myself and my boyfriend doesn't like it, so I had to stop
it wasn't easy, and sometimes I still want to do it, but I just have to resist the urge not to
