Yes I agree that most fantasy has to deal with light vs dark, but one of the main things I try to do my characters is to have them learn something about themselves through the adventure. I have one girl who was mistreated by her family, but along the story she ends up finding her true love and becomes a general and helps win a war. I've also read lots of fantasy books where another part is how love can always conquer the darkness and hate.
