i beat Halo 3 on Normal yesterday, and the ending was a bit unclear.

How did the cheif die? it doesn't make much sense. he got on the ship, alive and well, yet they say he dies at the end. At least I think they do. They do, right? other wise i'm gonna feel pretty dumb.

at legendary there is a hidden cutsecen at the end

If you had not noticed, when the arbiter went to drive the ship, Chief stayed behind to talk to Cortana. The ship made it through the wake of the rings activation but only half of it, (the half the arbiter was in) the rest was left behind (the part with the chief). Beat it on legendary for more information, the scene is after the credits.

*nods* Like everyone else said there's a separate cutscene for beating legendary, which according to forumonkeys aand rumor mongers is a lead in to Halo Wars but I doubt it since in Halo 1-3 he's the only Spartan left and in Halo Wars there's a whole army of spartans but*shrugs* more series have messed up things as well in storylines to make things work
