Iron_Felix's theory reminded me of DragonHeart, for some reason. I think it's entirely possible though.

In response to the OP though, I agree.
In my readings of various pagan beliefs and attendance of Bible study, I've noticed that many specific teachings are the same. Sometimes they even use the same words, or identical concepts.

It may be the concept that Riku mentioned, but one belief that some pagans and particularly several Wiccans share is that the entirety of existence is comprised of energy (After all, as far as we can see atoms are just empty space, matter might just be a form of energy)
This energy is the supreme/divine/all/chaos/G-d and to make it easier to understand and relate to people break it up into male and female, Wiccans sometimes work with them as that, but most break it up even further. To make it easier to understand and relate to.

That's why pantheons and deities always reflect the ways of the people who believe in them. The Norse gods die in battle at the end of the world, the Christian deity lives in peace and purity. The Greek pantheon is rife with intrigue.

Sometimes I wish people could treat the diversity of religions the way they do other kinds of diversity. I cannot understand the appeal of fermented tofu, but I'm not gonna say that anyone who doesn't agree with me will suffer eternal torment (except for the smell).
