"I'll call for help if she takes me prisoner." Van joked, going over to give her a kiss before leaving the room. "Daddy's going out for a bit, but I should be back soon. Be good for your mom while I'm gone, and that goes double for you Kai." he said, poking his head in the kids' rooms before knocking on the den of Marianne.

Mala watched as Van left, letting him head off to Marianne's before she would slip back onto the couch to examine the cooking spellbook she had been using. Mala hoped to find what she had been doing wrong. This was difficult, due to thoughts of her mother now clouding her mind.
The statue moved out of the way, revealing a staircase for Van to come down and see Marianne himself if he so wished.

Upon entering, Van looked down the middle of the long staircase and let out a low whistle. "Man, I'd love to see Atius face if he knew this was under his temple." he said before taking the stairs like a normal person.

Marianne was waiting patiently at the bottom, curious as to what her visitor wanted.

"Sorry to bother you, but Mala's been trying to magically improve her cooking to no avail. She keeps getting hungry beasties instead." Van said once he reached the bottom of the stairs. "You being the expert in magic around here, I have come as a messenger, as she's still being stubborn."

Marianne chuckled. "Ah, that's Mala for you!" she said in a warm look of amusement. "She probably got one of those faulty spellbooks meant as pranking gifts at best. It's a common scenario for me at pretty much every celebration with the rest of the coven." she said, walking over to the wall which lead to her personal library. "If you can read runic, you can follow me. If not, well, you'll have to wait out here until I come back."

"Don't worry, I think Runic is required for gods to keep up the whole 'ancient being' thing. Pretty sure they just zapped the knowledge into my head way back when." Van said as he followed her in.

As Van entered the room, large floating bookshelves overwhelmed the two for as far as the eye could see. "Now, what was she looking for? A decent cookbook for magic users, yes?"

"Yeah, that sounds about right." Van said as he looked around at the floating shelves.

Marianne nodded, going on to shift through the books for a few minutes before eventually finding what she was looking for. "Ah! Here it is!" she exclaimed, taking it out and walking towards Van. She held it out to him, grinning. "Will this do?"

"Hopefully so. I think you can expect success if I don't need to make a return trip." Van said with a smirk.

"As always." Marianne smiled for a moment longer before going on to ask, "Do you think she'll ever forgive me?"

Van sighed. He knew she was going to ask something like that. "I don't know, but I'm still trying. It'd be nice if she'd at least let you see the kids."

"How are they, by the way? They still don't know much about me, do they?" Marianne asked, holding a forced smile and a sad look in her eyes.

"No, but I'd like to change that somehow. I just hope I can change her mind one of these days." Van said trying to brighten up a little. "But the kids are geat! Kai's clearly inherited a good chunk of my power, shame it's all the destructive sort and he's got too much energy sometimes. Thankfully Larai's much less of a handful, and I'm hoping she gets the white magic if anything."
