Odd was a bit distracted from the conversation between the others as they discussed what Freth had found in the book. Sure he was a bit curious but something was keeping his attention split at the moment. Drawn back to the conversation for a moment as Arven mentioned the Bombirdier, he thought for a moment about the Pokemon he used. Would any of them be truly useful against such a Pokémon? He might have four Pokémon he wouldn’t need to worry about much if they had to confront any such Pokémon so with any luck, they’d manage to find the herba mystica without any confrontation if they ended up going after it as Ms. Raifort had implied they should before she’d disappeared.

“Hold up… what’s this about Ultra Beasts in the crater?” He asked, Freth’s comments about the creatures in the book finally clicking in his mind. Finally coming back to the present properly, he shooed away a group of Nymble that had begun to try stealing bits of his sandwich (successfully, he noticed) and tore off the nibbled-on bits, leaving them for the grasshoppers to enjoy as he got up and moved closer to Freth. As the discussion flowed through the group, he tried to follow along but really only one thing stuck out at this point. Something Brian had asked.

“Scarlet Book? Why does that sound like it’s virtually identical to this Violet Book? They’re entirely untitled expedition journals if this one’s anything to go on.” Shaking his head, he ran his fingers through his hair for a moment before stuffing the remainder of his sandwich into his mouth and proceeding to finish it while he thought all this new information over. So much seemed to be going on in this region yet so little seemed to be public knowledge about it.

"...Eris?" Sol asked. "Guessing that's your headmate's name? It's fine either way, certainly better than just calling her the hunter or whatever. Still..." By now, he'd try to get a better look at the pages as Freth went through them, a few memories coming back. Or at least some semblance of recollection of seeing this before. Whatever the case, it wasn't terribly important to him and he'd mentally shelve it when he saw the map. "That should be the Asado Desert, yeah. Doesn't look like it would've been too far off from our path either, but other than rocky structures, that's the most I'd know. Regardless, Arven's got the right of the general areas and to watch for Bombirdier, though he clearly knows his way around ingredients far better than I do. Bomber Peak's as good a lead as any, so I'm for it being our next stop. Inigo, it'll be easier to recall you before we go, so are you good to go too?"

Reno Vantas

He'd get a bounce and a nod from the Scorbunny, giving a nod in return before recalling him for now. "As for Arboliva," he spoke up afterward, hearing Beau's question, "fully evolved ones weren't terribly common, but Smoliv tend to like being around the Southern Province. Pretty far away from the mesas we were at, which makes our run-in all the weirder."

The Snagems plus Arven would clean up the mess from their picnic and with the knowledge obtained by the Violet Book they would summon the Squawkabilly taxis and set out for their next target; Bomber's Peak. The nearest location they could fly to in Area One of the West Province was the southern Pokemon Center, the Snagems arriving there in short order thanks to the winged creatures.

"Bomber's Peak isn't too far from here. We just take the main road north a bit and then go west at the fork, taking the path along the river. From there it's a steady climb up up the hilly terrain which quickly turns rugged and develops a sharp incline all the way up to Bomber's Peak. It's a tiring walk so if you have a Pokemon to help you I'd use it." Arven said as he took out a Pokeball and tapped the button on the front, the ball releasing from its confines a Pokemon that looked identical to the 'Shadow Pokemon' that started the entire academy fiasco for Team Snagem, except this one was black, pink and yellow, a bit over six foot tall and was decidedly not a Shadow Pokemon.

"Ever see one of these? It's a Toedscruel. They can move a lot faster than they look." If only Arven knew how familiar Snagem was with Toedscruel. Without another word Arven had his sentient mushroom help him onto its head, the young man making himself comfortable on top of the Grass type, laying down on his stomach and holding onto the mushroom cap. "Race you guys to the base of the peak!" Arven said with a smile, a bit of boyish mischief revealing itself. It looked like Arven was always happier when he was with his Pokemon.

Upon command Toedscruel would take off lickety-split, the living mushroom running up the path away from the Pokemon Center at speeds that could rival the average Rapidash, kicking up a cloud of dust in its wake. With Arven heading out the Snagems were compelled to follower.

(Write out the walk to Bomber's Peak. It can be an uneventful trek or you may battle a wild Pokemon along the way which may include a capture. Wild Pokemon found along the way are as follows: Capsakid, Psyduck, Flittle, Charcadet, Nacli, Nymble, Rockruff, Mudbray, Chewtle, Arrokuda, Skiddo, Yungoos, Drifloon, Basculin, Buizel, Misdreavus, Phanpy, Makuhita, Mankey, Gastly, Magikarp, Tadbulb. A Pokemon battle in this post, capture or not, will give your Pokemon 2 Evo Points.)

[Two wandering Terastalized Pokemon can be battled along the way but each may only be battled by one member, first come first serve either by posting your battle first or claiming the right to it in the Discord and if you do call dibs you are expected to get your post out in a timely manner. The two Tera Pokemon are Psychic Rockruff and Ice Buizel. Your Pokemon will receive 4 Evo Points for this battle and you will receive a Tera Shard of the Pokemon's Tera type.]

In time they would make it to the base of Bomber's Peak, Arven and his Toedscruel waiting for them at the base as they stood next to a sign which indicated the name of the mountain as well as warnings concerning the Bombirdier that make it their home. "What took you guys so long?" Arven would tease, his Toedscruel making a laugh-like sound as well.

Stashing the book for the moment and helping with the clean up of the picnic area, Freth ended up getting up on one of the taxis to head towards Bomber’s Peak. The Hunter would try to get Freth to fly there herself using her psychic abilities, but Freth had no confidence in the fact that she would be able to make the trip, let alone in one go, or perhaps if she did make it, by the time she got there, the Snagems would be ready to leave. That was asking a lot in one go when trying to fly, let alone hover, for any length of time, was taxing as is. Not to mention, during the trip, it did give her the opportunity to look back in the Violet Book for the time being to see if there was anything she overlooked. The trip would take at least a little bit, giving her time to give the pages a more thorough examination. Hoping there was something here that would prove more enlightening instead of at the very least giving the hunter something to dread over. Even with all considered, she is still left to wonder why in the world no one bothered going in that crater to go find the two professors. They could be dead for as all anyone knew. Even if there was something going on like Eris suspected, it wasn’t just limited to what’s in the crater. Someone or something was preventing entry for whatever reason. She hoped answers would come sooner than later.

Once the taxi landed, she’d stash the book once more then made her way out, listening to Arven give a general rundown of Bomber’s peak and some of the Pokémon that are around in the area, taking note of the Toedscruel that was making its way by. Freth couldn’t help but to grimace over the Pokémon, namely because of Larrimore and his hair-trigger pulling of a Shadow Pokémon alert. She would then find herself in need of an eyebrow to raise when Arven got on top of his Toedscruel and started to make a beeline up the path.

“…gee…thanks.” Freth said rather sarcastically, not expecting Arven to hear it. Shaking her head, she started her way up the path.

“Hold it.”
The Hunter spoke up.

“What?”
she said, keeping the conversation to the two of them.

“Feet off the ground.”

“Really? Here? Now!?”

“You might have been able to get Blizzard off your case about any sort of training, but the one thing I have on him is that I am constantly here in your headspace. And I will remind you of that so as long as you’re the one in charge of keeping the both of us alive; you need to hurry up and master your abilities. Seriously, you haven’t even learned the first hybrid attack yet. And since you were so adamant from flying here from the laboratory, we can start working on your speed. Start following him as fast as you can.”

Freth unfortunately had to admit that she was right. She might as well anyways. She looked down towards the ground for a second, focusing a bit and then managed to lift off a couple of inches off the ground, just enough to allow her toes to clear the ground. She then started to move forward. Freth only started to hope that this wasn’t going to be along trip.

The trip was uneventful all the way to the top. Freth just kept focused, trying to move up the mountain as fast as she could. She did eventually pick up some speed along the way, but the more she pushed herself, the more taxing it was. She wasn’t used to it. And to think this is going to be the basis of all of her abilities. Agility, Psychic, and any other skill from there. She had too much ground to cover.

All the way to the top, she finally made it to Arven, finally planting her feet back on the ground. Despite not doing anything physically, she was felt exhausted from pushing her psychic prowess hard as she did today.

As Odd followed along with the others, he felt a strange sense of paranoia. He couldn’t figure out just what was setting him off but it was like his spiritual awareness was picking up multiple creatures with ill intent around him at all times. Despite that feeling, when he focused on the people around him, no one in class was giving off that aura. None of the wild Pokemon he could see were, either. Not true ill intent, at least. Those Nymble were definitely looking to steal some sandwich pieces wherever they could but that was hardly “evil” enough to set off his senses like this. He tried to shake it off as the group cleaned up the picnic area, assisted in packing everything away again and then made his way into one of the flying taxis when they were ready to head off to the area known as “Bomber’s Peak”. He wasn’t fond of that name but if he’d understood Arven’s explanation of the area, it did make sense how it would have gotten one like that.

Upon arriving near the base of the mountain, he disembarked from the flying taxi and proceeded to stick a finger in both ears as the taxi took off again. “It wouldn’t be a bad idea to invest in some noise-canceling headphones… or just some earplugs for these rides if we’re going to be taking these a lot.” He noted to himself. “Those birds are starting to give me migraines riding around with them squawking away like that.”

It looked like he was one of the first to arrive so he started up the path after Arven had declared his challenge, deciding that he would follow Arven’s lead with one of his own Pokemon. Releasing Entr’Acte, the Pokemon would proceed to lie down in the air with his shield facing the sky. “You ready for a race?” Odd asked him as he jumped onto the Aegislash’s shield and knelt down to stabilize himself.

“Slash!”

“Great! Use Autotomize and let’s follow them!” Odd directed from his spot atop the sentient sword.

“Aegis!” Entr’Acte responded with a bright flash of silver before beginning to move through the air much like Odd’s familiar hoverboard, silvery sparkles left in their wake as metal shavings fell away from his body. The pair rocketed along the path, attempting to catch up to the teenager who’d taken the lead on his unfamiliar mount. As soon as he was close enough to Arven to do so, he pulled out his SNAG and snapped a photo off his Pokemon for later, though he was unfortunately interrupted before he could make it far. They’d just begun to make their way up the mountain trail, actually catching up to Arven and his ‘toadscrawl’, a fitting name seeing it move, when a large rock barrelled down the mountainside directly in front of them. If they didn’t make a large jump or swerve quickly, the small boulder threatened to crash into them headlong and send them tumbling to the ground. Except that Odd had a response. Grabbing his artifact, he felt the energy from Entr’Acte swelling within him as he held the sickle in his left hand, its ribbon winding around his arm. The energy he absorbed coalesced into a mighty spear he hurled in front of them to intercept the boulder rolling toward them. The spherical(ish) rock struck the construct and its path veered toward the ledge of the mountain path, rolling off the side before Odd and Entr’Acte ever reached it. Holding Wraith Harvest by the ribbon, Odd threw the sickle out and used it to hook the spear construct’s handle, yanking them both back with a hard tug. Catching the spear, he allowed the energy to release and the spear quickly faded away to nothingness. Just as he was preparing to make a move on closing the gap between themselves and Arven, something else happened. This time something alive.

“Char!” A tiny, roughly humanoid creature that seemed to be made of burning wood had suddenly run into their path and was standing firm, fiery eyes narrowed in a Leer at Entr’Acte.

“Uh… What are you?” Odd asked as he signaled his Aegislash mount to slow down. He also proceeded to take out his SNAG again and attempted to scan the Pokemon. GRAY still seemed to be updating the PokeDex database so he snapped another photo, this one much more useful since he could see the front side of this one Pokemon.

“Cadet! Char charcadet!” The little Pokemon declared.

“I assume that’s your name, ‘Charcadet’?” Odd asked, jumping down from Entr’Acte’s shield. “And I also assume you’re looking for a fight since you don’t seem all that intent on getting out of the way?”

“Charchar!” Charcadet exclaimed, taking a single step before it vanished.

“Entr’Acte, use King’s Shield!” Odd called out as he tried to sense the little Pokemon’s presence. It seemed to have vanished entirely for a brief moment before it suddenly appeared again, directly behind the Aegislash with a loud shout and a punch charged with energy. Its Astonish achieved very little, however, as Entr’Acte had already formed a barrier of interlocking hexagons around himself and mentally steeled himself against the coming strike. The shout did nothing but alert the huge Steel-type spirit to the tiny soldier’s presence. The King’s Shield, however, blocked the weak punch and bombarded the tiny Pokemon with cursed energy that sapped some of its strength and reduced its attack.

“Entr’Acte, this little one’s spunky but let’s not go easy on it. Use Night Slash.” Odd called out, assuming it to be at least partially Ghost-type based on its choice of attack. Entr’Acte shifted into Sword Form and his bladed body shone with a deep black light before swinging like a pendulous guillotine toward Charcadet.

Charcadet saw the attack coming but due to its size, it believed itself unable to dodge and so, the plume of flame on its head began to burn more aggressively, the colors rapidly shifted as it projected a confuddling beam of energy toward Entr’Acte amid his attack. This didn’t stop the Night Slash and Charcadet was hit, grabbing the larger Pokemon’s body as it was hit and refusing to let go for as long as possible. The Confuse Ray did manage to connect and Entr’Acte proceeded to thrash around, swinging wildly as the little Pokemon’s body proceeded to heat up his blade to a painful degree.

“Was that Flame Body?” Odd asked as Entr’Acte finally managed to fling the small soldier off himself, his blade sporting a scorch mark where the Charcadet had been holding tight. “Hold on, Entr’Acte. I’ll take care of that burn after we’re done with this! Try hitting it with a Shadow Claw!” Entr’Acte’s body flashed black before a shadowy purple mist emitted from its blade and coalesced into a trio of claw-like constructs along its edge. Rather than the vertical, pendulum-like swing he’d used before, the sentient sword made a horizontal slash this time. The pain of that burn was slowing the Steel-type down just a bit so he felt like this was the best way to ensure his attack would hit.

Charcadet tried to escape by using Flame Charge and dashing away from the incoming Ghost attack. Picking up speed as it ran, Charcadet was surprised to find that it was still hit, though its cloak of flames managed to hurt Entr’Acte a bit anyway. When it was struck, the Pokemon was launched a short distance away, sliding across the ground for a solid foot before it stopped. Entr’Acte loomed over it for a moment before plunging his blade into the ground directly in front of the weakened Pokemon.

“Aegis! Slash aegis slash slash!” The Pokemon declared, moving his shield to rest in front of him.

“Char… char cadet char char.” The tiny Pokemon replied as it lay on the ground, punching the dirt.

“Aegis.” Entr’Acte replied, closing his cyclopean eye for a brief moment. “Slash slash aegislash.”

Charcadet dragged itself to its knees and remained that way, bowing before the massive sword for the moment, perhaps expecting an execution? Odd couldn’t tell exactly what was being said but it almost sounded like Entr’Acte was demanding the Pokemon declare fealty to him and Charcadet might be refusing? “Hey now… This doesn’t need to get any more violent than a battle, you two.” He exclaimed, rushing over as Entr’Acte pulled his blade from the ground again and flipped as if he were going to come down upon the child-sized Pokemon’s neck. Expecting that his partner was about to do something inexcusable, he grabbed for the Pokemon’s Ball.

Before he could grab the correct ball, the blade came down and he flinched, eyes slamming shut as he expected the little Charcadet’s soul to vanish from his senses any second. But neither did that happen, nor did he hear the sound of impact from the blade. Instead, after a moment of nothing, he opened his eyes again and saw Entr’Acte gently tapping his blade against the Pokemon’s shoulders and then coming to rest again.

“Aegis! Slash aegislash!”

Charcadet rose to its feet and ran toward Odd, looking up at him before offering a salute. “Cadet!” It declared before assuming a relaxed military stance.

“Uh… What just happened?” He asked Entr’Acte, looking up from the Pokemon.

Entr’Acte floated over, wincing slightly from the burn he had received along the way. Reaching into Odd’s bag, he pulled out a Pokeball with his free ribbon-hand, placing it into Odd’s hands and then pointing to Charcadet. “Aegislash.” He stated simply. Apparently the Charcadet had sworn fealty not to Entr’Acte but to his trainer.

“Uh… Ok then…” Odd nodded and knelt down to Charcadet’s level. “You sure?” He asked calmly. Charcadet nodded excitedly and pumped its fists in the air. “Cadet det!” It assured him, grabbing the hand holding the Pokeball and proceeding to practically headbutt the button on it. The Pokemon was drawn in immediately and the flashing light turned solid, shutting off almost immediately as it pinged to signal a successful capture. “Guess so…” Odd laughed lightly, tucking the ball into his bag and searching for something to soothe Entr’Acte’s burn afterward.

“Looks like all I’ve got is a Full Restore. This thing’s old as dirt, though… Hopefully it’s still good.” He announced as he approached and sprayed the Pokemon’s wound with it. The scorch mark was pretty sizeable, having ended up bigger around than the Charcadet itself and on both sides of Entr’Acte’s blade. By the time he was sure he’d gotten the whole thing treated the bottle was empty. “Jeez… I thought these things went further than that. Anyway, you feel any better after that?” He asked as he tucked the empty bottle into his bag for disposal later.

“Slash!” Entr’Acte replied. Odd nodded and wrapped some bandages around the blade. The burn itself was looking better but that scorch mark wasn’t going to heal right away so he wanted to keep it clean for a bit longer. “Think you’re up to continuing up the mountain or should I go without you from here?” He asked. The Aegislash took up the horizontal position he used when Odd rode around on him and Odd grinned. “Too stubborn to let that stop us, huh?” He asked as he jumped onto the shield once again.

“Aegis!” Entr’Acte declared, taking off again once Odd was in place. It wouldn’t take long after that to reach the top of the mountain, where they’d find Arven already waiting, unsurprisingly, along with Freth. "Huh... I guess we were faster than we thought?" He assumed. He'd expected others to be here before them after that battle had stopped them.

Brian aided in the cleanup of the picnic, then got into the nearest taxi. The trip wasn't all that long, but it was rather annoying thanks to the Squawkabilly that were transporting the taxis. His experience with the Kricketot a while back had left him partially deaf in his right ear, so the noise wasn't as bad as it could have been, but it was still irritating. When they got to their destination, he listened as Arven explained how to get to the place he called Bomber's Peak, and he had to admit, he wasn't looking forward to getting huge rocks dropped on him. Looking at Rachel, he could see she felt the same.

Seeing Arven take off on the top of a Toedscruel, something that vaguely resembled a Tentacruel but very obviously a different type, then taking off toward the peak had him grinning a bit at the mischief he could see in the younger man's eyes. Seems Arven loved Pokemon as much as Brian did, if not more so. A race to the top didn't sound like a bad idea, but at the same time, he didn't want to tire himself out, so he opted to take the scenic route. That being a casual but brisk walk up the mountainside, since he didn't actually have any Pokemon that could carry him up..

Wanting to walk with one of his team, he took one of his Pokeballs and tossed it into the air, revealing Randy, his Dunsparce. He hadn't really interacted with the Normal-type since capturing him, so he figured this was as good a time as any to actually get to know the little guy. It didn't take long to figure out that outside of battle, Randy was actually quite laid back, seemingly preferring to take things as they came. Brian had to smile at this, knowing the two would be good friends in no time. The walk up the mountain was uneventful, neither Brian nor Randy seeing any Pokemon they were particularly interested in battling, and none of the wild ones in the immediate vicinity seemed to be keen on testing their mettle, anyway. By the time he reached the peak, he could see Freth, Arven, and Odd already there, and he walked over to join them.

-------------------------

Rachel didn't waste any time letting out her Skiddo, whom she'd decided to name Clint. She'd heard of Skiddo and their evolution, Gogoat, being used as Ride Pokemon, so she figured it couldn't hurt to try it here. Despite not having been trained as a Ride Pokemon, Clint didn't seem to mind Rachel getting onto his back at all, taking to the role like a duck to water. It made the trip much easier, especially since Clint had a much smoother gait than some of the other Pokemon she'd ridden before. About halfway up the mountain, she saw something interesting. It looked like a Rockruff, a Pokemon she'd seen before, but this one was a little different. There was a glow about it that she could see from a distance, and when she got closer, she unintentionally caught its interest. Ah, this must be part of its territory, if the sudden cry it let out was anything to go by.

Before she could do anything, something odd happened. It looked like crystals had just sprouted from the ground, surrounding the Rock-type. When the crystals vanished, there was some kind of symbol over the Rockruff's head, one that looked like an eye. Wait, what was going on? What had just happened? Wait, was this terastalization? Of a wild Pokemon? She'd seen some trainers terastalize their Pokemon during battles, but she'd never heard of a wild Pokemon being able to do it on their own before. Hmm, this was certainly something to bring up during her next class. Seeing the battle-ready stance the Rockruff was showing, she gave a slight grin and got off Clint's back, patting the Skiddo gently. The Skiddo seemed to shy from the Rockruff, and she had a feeling he wasn't interested in battling at the moment, so she tossed Rainer's ball into the air, the Eevee appearing in a flash of light and a cry of his name.

"Rainer, start it off with Quick Attack, then follow it up with Bite," she said, and the Eevee leaped into action, shooting forward in a burst of speed. As he reached the Rockruff, he shoulder-checked the Rock-type, throwing it off center, then bit down on its scruff with a Bite attack. The Rockruff let out a howl of pain, the rocks on its neck lighting up as it fired off a Rock Throw. Rainer kept his grip for a moment before letting go with a whimper, the rocks doing a little damage but not as much as expected. Rachel had noticed that the Bite attack the Eevee had landed did a lot more damage on the Rockruff than normal, and she had to assume that right now, the Rockruff was a Psychic-type thanks to the tera it had taken on. Hmm, this could be useful. "Rainer, back off a bit and use Swift, then follow it up with Shadow Ball," she said.

Rainer did as ordered, firing off the Swift as he backed off, then following up with a Shadow Ball. Since Swift was an attack that never missed, the Rockruff fired off a second Rock Throw, causing a small explosion, but now that it couldn't see, it missed the Shadow Ball thrown its way and the attack hit dead center on its side, throwing it back and causing a lot more damage than Rachel was expecting. Must have been a critical hit. The sudden breaking of the crystal surrounding the Rockruff's body indicated the terastalization was done, and she knew this was her best chance at capturing the Rock-type. Having a spunky little one like that on her team would be interesting, for sure, and she picked up an empty Pokeball and lobbed it at the downed Rockruff. The ball bounced off its side and opened to suck the Rock-type in with a flash of red light, snapping shut and wobbling violently as the Rockruff tried valiantly to escape. After a few moments, however, the shaking stopped, and the Pokeball pinged to signify a successful capture.

Walking over to the now-still Pokeball, Rachel picked it up and gave a relieved smile. That battle had been more than worth it, if only for the surprise that was the terastalization of a wild Pokemon. She would definitely have to show this to some of her teachers, find out if they'd ever heard of anything like this. For now, however, they still needed to reach the top of the mountain, so she recalled Rainer and mounted Clint again, who took off at a sprint for the peak and reached it to see a few of the group already waiting there.

Tsuki the Lunar Wind

Newbie Noob

PostPosted: Tue Jun 11, 2024 11:40 pm
“Ugh…” Tsuki groaned, having a vague idea of how far of a march that Arven had described to the group. He really needed to take a day and visit Oak sometime to see about getting his Pokemon back, through convincing him or just taking them he wasn’t exactly sure of what he’d have to do. Seeing the student look so carefree did make that pang hit a bit harder. For now though… he did have that standard issue Snagem hoverboard. It had been a few years since he had last ridden it but it was probably better than nothing. While the others figured out their own situations, he turned it on and carefully (read: haphazardly) hopped onto it.

And zoomed. Tsuki almost fell off a few times as he got a hang of it once again, but it was like riding a bike in every but literal. He leaned forward, hoped Maggie wouldn’t fall off mid flight, and kept his arms behind his until he needed to turn. Right. Turning. Oh man, he needed to lean to the side for that. Bracing for a crash, the redhead tilted from side to side and slowly gathered his bearings just in time to see that he had veered far off course from the group’s destination. “H-hey, wait up!” He called out, twisting his backward facing heel to switch gears and speed up towards everyone else going towards Bomber’s Peak.

Tsuki decided against trying to battle other Pokemon for the time being. It wasn’t like Maggie needed the help plus the poor Applin only knew Astonish and Withdrawal! Actually. “I guess you’ll need a name eventually huh?” He asked the Pokeball containing the little wyrm that he had returned prior to liftoff. Well. There’d be a time for that later, he decided.

Beau could only stare with a slightly slack-jawed look at the Toedscruel that suddenly took off running towards their destination. Not only did their little disaster that got this started involve one of those, seeing the absolutely goofy way this thing moved made Beau have serious doubts about Larrimore. He looked at this deflated balloon bumbling around and thought it was a Shadow Pokemon? Oh man, there was no way he was letting Larry live that down. Cracking open a Pokeball without looking, he would prepare to jump onto the back of his Charizard when he realized that he had one more Pokeball than usual and had miscounted which one he had grabbed as he stared at the somewhat strange face of the Arboliva in front of him.

"Right. Our little suspect from the first Herba incident." Beau said, looking over the Grass type as it did its best to avoid making direct eye contact with the strange bug man that had stolen her. And this avoidance made him more determined, continuing his effort to meet the thing's eye. "C'mon. I've been learning plant care things from Chris, I'm nurturing plants, and I even got this stuff. Just meet my eye for a sec and lets get on the level here!" Beau said, releasing a puff of powder that seemed to catch the Arboliva's attention. Slowly turning towards her new trainer, the Grass type would finally meet the Vivllon hybrid's eyes.....before a massive olive was lobbed directly into his head and the Arboliva resumed averting her gaze from the man she perceived as her captor.

Not expecting the sudden, violent assault, Beau would be bowled over by the massive projectile slamming into his head. Crashing into the ground with his shoulders as he did his best to not land on his wings, Beau would roll over his head into a sitting position and stare towards the Arboliva. "The hell did I do? Do you not like the powder? I thought that was supposed to be like a nitrogen infusion." Shaking his head as he grabbed Arboliva's Pokeball, he would quietly return his new Pokemon before once again making an effort to release his Charizard, successfully this time. Hopping up onto Zippo's back, he would point towards the mountain that had a floppy mushroom sprinting towards it.

Landing beside Arven as he made his quick little joke, Beau would respond. "Unfortuantely, I forgot I had an extra Pokeball now. And apparently its occupant isn't too happy with me for some reason. You'd be able to tell but exoskeletons don't swell up like normal bodies from impact trauma so my painful head wound gets to just be an innie."

Through the rest of the cleanup process and trip in the flying taxi, Sol couldn't help being a bit curious of the book again, of the idea that what was in there wasn't a bunch of tall tales after all. As long as the team could hold onto the Violet Book for a little while, he felt letting Sub take a look at it himself wouldn't be hard to accomplish. "Suppose I've misjudged," he said to himself, leaning back in the taxi's seat as he waited to arrive.

It wouldn't be long until arrival, and shortly after that would he see Arven send out a Toedscruel. "Ah, there's what they usually look like," he remarked, giving a bit of a laugh in response. "We had the good luck of finding a shiny one a few days ago. And the misfortune of unfamiliar sightings causing a bad scare." Very shortly after his remark did he see Arven race off on top of Toedscruel and their many legs, looking to the path ahead. Keeping up with those speeds wasn't on his agenda; the boy could have his win today, with a little information trade being a worthy price to him. The remark of Capsakid teeth meant they'd be around too, and a relatively easy catch too as soon as one was found. As he saw it, if the team was going to be in Paldea for a while, maybe he could stand to shake up his team a bit. Plus the teeth could be a useful spice source...

His pace towards the base of Bomber's Peak would be slower than most, deciding to take his time with it and take in sights he hadn't seen in years. The walk around West Province's first area continued the bathing of nostalgia he'd been in since arriving in the region, though the peak he and the others were headed towards were a place less visited. There were stories of how the peak was a bit perilous to climb to, something to give those who did a reminder to be cautious for their safety. As a child, they were an effective enough deterrent to keep him from making the trek much, but he could still remember the first time he decided to take the chance. Walking and winding his way through the province, up the path that led towards the mountains, keeping a couple Pokemon at his side just in case... a lot of it felt like it did back then. Only, now he was a hybrid. That could fly. With far more travels that made an old fear feel all the sillier to have had in the first place. Of course things didn't look exactly like he remembered; the march of time waits for (almost) no one, after all.

But the beauty of the region hadn't tarnished a bit to him. He'd missed it a lot. As he got to the fork in the road, he'd let the nostalgia and memories subside for now. Even if this still felt more like a long-awaited vacation to him, there was still business to attend to. And maybe a slight detour, seeing a few Capsakid walking around. Shed teeth were scattered around them too, a common sight wherever they were around. He'd keep his distance as he let Inigo back out, kneeling to the ground and pointing towards the group.

"Fire a few Embers to get their attention, see if we can make most of them scatter. Keep them kind of weak, there's no need to knock all of them out," he'd remark, seeing a nod from his Scorbunny at the instruction.

Toning attacks down still wasn't his strong suit, the Embers fired being close to full power and coming off more like a mortar round to the Capsakid than a warning shot. It was successful in making most of them scatter, but apart from the one surrounded by flames in the moment, another had been knocked out almost immediately as a result. Whoops.

"...close enough." Sol quickly got to his feet and went to approach the remaining Capsakid, spreading his wings and ready to snuff out the flames... but he'd instead see that Capsakid take offense to the whole thing and, in an act of defiance, proceeded to rush through the flames to approach in an effort to deal with the matter. It was enough to make the hybrid pause for a moment, being pretty sure these weren't Fire-types yet. But this one. This one was certainly as spicy as their name and teeth suggested.

If his beak let him, he'd have smirked in the moment. He liked this one. "A bit more gusto than your friends, eh? Vamos dançar, then! Flame Charge, Inigo!"
To further surprise, he'd watch Capsakid brace itself for the oncoming flaming tackle, trying to stand their ground as well as they could. Once the attack had made impact and they managed to keep their footing, they'd immediately retaliate with a strong Bite while Inigo's guard was down and follow it up with a Headbutt to throw him back with a defiant cry. "Careful now," Sol spoke up, making sure Inigo was still able to keep fighting.

"This one's definitely more of a fighter, very fiery spirit. Try sending them back into the flames with your Double Kick, and watch for the bite."

Watching and waiting for an opening, Capsakid was quick to try biting Inigo again. With his guard up, the Scorbunny was able to narrowly avoid the attack and quick to punish with an initial kick to throw them off their footing. Once the opening was forced, he'd follow up with another kick to send them into the few embers still on the ground. They'd died down a lot by now, but it still wasn't exactly a pleasurable thing to the Capsakid. Despite this, still daring to defy what they were going through, they'd walk through it again. But Sol could note it took more effort. They were still a younger Pokemon, similar to Inigo, and the attacks and flames were taking a toll on them rapidly, even as they still had every intent to fight until they couldn't.

To continue the fight would be rough on them, but if that sort of fire could be tempered and guided to spread less wildly...

"...enough! Inigo, keep back. I'll take it from here," he said with a nod, taking a Great Ball out and tossing it. "Let's see if they're willing to join us."

Capsakid tried to Headbutt the ball away as it neared, but they'd miss when it opened up on them, getting ensnared by the energy it emitted and forced inside. They'd still put up a fight despite this, the ball thrashing and wobbling as it tried to keep its occupant inside until they calmed down. While whatever kind of fight they were doing couldn't be seen, the toll of the last few moments had finally caught up, seeing the ball calm down alongside with less intense wobbling until it eventually stopped with a click, soon disappearing to go into storage.

"Good, good, welcome to the team, then," Sol commented, kneeling down to give Inigo a quick pet before recalling him. And maybe grabbing a few Capsakid teeth that were on the ground. "Feel like we'll get along just fine."

After some time, he'd finally make it to the base of the peak, waving to Arven and his Toedscruel once he spotted them. "I felt like taking the scenic route for a change. You were right about the Capsakid teeth."

Aile raised an eyebrow after watching the land jellyfish(?) run off, surprisingly fast. “What?... Wait. Isn’t that the Pokémon that was on those signboards everyone was raising in Porto Marinada?” There felt like there was some sort of irony there in Arven using the Pokemon that got them here in the first place, but hey. Wooper popped out of Aile’s backpack to look around while his trainer thought about the plan of attack. She could bring out Tatooine and fly up to the peak, but the name and what she heard of it didn’t instill confidence in that tactic. She grew up with enough flying types to understand that rocks were bad to them. While Tatooine wasn’t particularly a flying type, she’d rather not chance getting them clipped, even if temporarily. So, Tati was out. However, that wasn’t the only Pokémon that was large and strong enough to hold her weight. Dagobah. Aile nodded as she got out the large bear’s Pokéball, only to notice that her backpack was lighter. “Hm? Wooper?” She turned her head to try and find the little poison mudfish, but only found an empty area where he should be. “Arceus… Dega!” She’d go ahead and send out her brown bear, getting on her back before patting her. “So, we have a runaway, Dega. Wooper, the little brown Pokemon that likes to sit in my backpack? It wandered off.” Dega grunted for a moment before shaking Aile off, with the bear walking over and taking a good sniff in the trainer’s backpack before lowering herself down to allow Aile back on. “Gah… Maybe a little more warning next time, Dega, jeez.” The trainer dusted herself off before climbing back on, patting her to let her know she could get moving.

And move she did… somewhat sluggishly, at first. Though, once Dega was confident that she had the scent, she started speeding up. By a lot. Aile could swear she was even faster than last time, too. She was finally getting used to the speed, though when she was nearly thrown off again, this time by a sudden stop. “Gah! Dagobah, where’s the Wooper? Where- Dega, what are you doing?” Aile watched as the Ursaluna began to dig around, though not very hard, mostly to push a bush out of the way. What she found wouldn’t be the missing Wooper. Instead, it was… a used Pokéball. And she decided to paw it over in her trainer’s direction, turning her head and looking at her expectantly. “...Dega? Do you want me to-”

“Urrrro.” She nodded, nudging it one more time.

“But, it’s trash! It’s not-”

“Urrrrruu!”

“Okay, okay! Geez, it’s not like getting on and off of you would be easy with two arms, ya know…” Aile grumbled as she got back off of her bear, grabbing the useless orb and tossing it into her backpack. She’d climb back onto the bear’s back once again, and they’d take off again. Unil they stopped again, this time the bear sniffing out an empty bag of chips. This whole process would play out again and again with different objects; toothpicks, more wrappers, another used PokeBall, even a Tiny Mushroom. With the last object, a half eaten sandwich, Aile had had enough. “Dega! This is just a half eaten sandwich! We’re looking for a mud colored walking Pokemon with purple protruding fins on his cheeks! Everything we’ve stopped for has just been random junk, mostly trash! We haven't come across-”

“Urrrrr.” Dagobah interrupted her trainer to point out that there was movement near the sandwich, specifically a little Wooper popping out and deciding to put its whole mouth around the half eaten sandwich and devouring it.

“... Is that what happened to my sandwich from earlier?” Aile shook her head, sighing before calling out. “Wooper? Dang it, you better be mine!” One more time, Aile would slide down off of Dega’s back and walk up to the Wooper, who cheered and happily thumped his tail on the ground. “Good… Why’d you wander off like that? Just curiosity?”

“Woo-” Her Wooper would barely have a chance to answer as a blast of water sent him tumbling. Mind, he seemed to get up rather quickly from that, but it did come from out of the nearby stream, seemingly.

“What in the- Is that a Buizel?” Aile looked confused as a glowing Buizel came out of the water, growing in brightness until Aile couldn’t keep looking at it. When the trio were finally able to look at the Pokemon, she realized that it seemed to have a crystalline appearance now, with a crown on its head with a beautiful snowflake as a topper. “...Okay, that’s new. Uh…. Ice type Buizel, if I had to guess? Ice and Water, maybe?” She looked over at the Wooper, who looked ready to fight back. Dega also looked ready to step in, but Aile held her arm out. “Let him fight. Wooper! Poison Jab!”

Wooper cheered, running forward with a determined grin, at least until a sudden surge of water carrying a Buizel tackled him again, bowling him over. For what it was worth again, the Wooper managed to stand himself right back up, shaking himself off before throwing himself at the rather confused twin tailed otter. His tail would begin to ooze poison more, before slamming it into the Buizel and shoving it back a bit. Not quite the move Aile had called out, but it was similar enough, at least. “So, we’ve got some work to do, I see… Wooper, try a Poison Jab again! Maybe use your… fins?” Whooper looked confused, to which Aile pointed to her cheeks. Suddenly realizing what she meant, Wooper ran forward once more, only to get blasted by a stream of cold wind, the Buizel blasting off an Icy Wind. Powering through it, the mudfish would still attack the Buizel, stabbing it with his bone shaped gills. Though, finally, Wooper wasn’t looking like he was in good shape. “Wooper, nice job, that looked like a Poison Jab! Think you can try it again?” Wooper nodded, going in to stab the Buizel again with his gills. And while he was able to stab him, he wasn’t able to get that much damage off, as the water weasel decided to wait until Wooper was close to blast him with another Icy Wind. Wooper tumbled off and rolled away towards Aile, taking longer to get up this time.

“Wooo….”

“Wooper, you did good, let’s see about saving some of your energy for later. She recalled the little Pokemon, who almost looked hurt as he was being brought back, which made her feel a little bit guilty. He really wanted to prove himself, didn’t he? She’d talk to him later. However, right now, she’d be bringing out another one of her Pokemon that needed to get used to fighting. “Rancor, let’s go! Use- Wait, where are you going? I didn’t even say anything yet!” Rancor came out as she was about to call for an attack, and the tiny land shark didn’t even wait, charging forward happily. “Giiiiib!” Leaping into the air as one more Icy Wind came out, he would land on the Buizel’s tail and chomp down. Somehow, even, he’d manage to hold on as the crystalline shell around it seemed to shatter into energy, stunning the Buizel for a moment. Using that as an opening, he’d jump back up, still chomping down on the tails, and try to pull it into the air and slam it back down. While there was some air movement, there wasn’t a whole lot, so instead, he’d just body slam it instead. That knocked the wind out of the Buisel’s lungs, and just leave it on the ground motionless, sans the functions needed to breathe. Looking proud of himself, he’d strut back over to Aile, who was currently looking at her bear, with the Ursaluna looking back unimpressed, currently sitting on her haunches. “Look, he’s fairly young! Excitable! … Wooper at least listened to me!” Continuing to look unamused, Dega would get back up on all four, kneeling down to allow Aile to get back on. Deciding to keep the bright blue Gible out, she’d help him get situated on Dagobah’s back before she climbed on one more time, looking at where they were before deciding to point upwards.

“Okay, now that chase time is over… Let’s get back on track. We need to meet up with the others. And maybe find a trash can for all of this.” She’d glance back to her backpack, a decent bit of Wooper’s spot taken up by the trash Dega had found along the way. “And unless we come across a trash can, Dega, we’re not stopping. My thighs are killing me.”

“Urrrr.” The bear looked back towards her trainer, looking mildly offended.

“I’m not a hundred percent sure what that was supposed to say, but you’re tall, and I’m riding bareback! You’re not easy to climb! Not trying to say anything horrible, just that you’re hard for a shorter adult human to climb. Especially with one arm.” The bear huffed before deciding to get a move on again, this time going at a more casual pace. If she was going to complain, she could go at her own pace instead. They still probably wouldn't do anything without them. Probably.

The Snagems would make it to the base of Bomber’s Peak where Arven was already waiting for them. They were already a ways up the mountain but the path to the peak itself was going to be a much steeper climb than the one they had taken to get here which was easy to see now that they were here. “See them up there?” Arven asked no one in particular as he pointed to the circling birds in the sky. From down here they just looked like nondescript birds, except for Freth and Sol who could probably make them out better with their superior avian vision. “Notice how they are just flying around, waiting. The moment we walk past this sign and head up the peak they will become far more aggressive, the birds extremely territorial but I suppose nice enough to honor the border. Watch this…Toedscruel, mind running up and back?” He asked his Pokemon.

The Toedscruel would obey as instructed and began to run up the steep path in front of them beyond the sign. As soon as Toedscruel made it past the sign the birds above began to dive, the rest of the Snagems now making out the birds visually. As they dove and pulled up they would let go of the feather lined flaps of skin they were holding in their beaks and send the rocks they were carrying raining down towards Toescruel or just ahead of them so the rocks rolled, the Bombirdiers executing their bombing runs. Fortunately Toedscruel was fast enough to avoid the rocks and quickly ran back to his trainer after showing off what was going to happen, Arven and Toedscruel stepping off to the side to allow the rocks to harmless roll away as they came down.

“See what I mean?” Arven asked as he made sure Toedscruel was okay. “If the book is right, one of the herbs should be here somewhere. The problem is where, as you see, there are plenty of places it could be hiding and even without the birds trying to rain rocks on us it would be impossible to look through every nook and cranny. Too bad we don’t have some of the first Herba Mystica, maybe my Mabosstiff could sniff it out, provided it smells similar. He’s still working on plant scents though so maybe not…” Arven sighed, not realizing that getting here wasn’t the problem, it was going to be how do they find a tiny little plant on a mountain.

Aile would slide down off of Dega once the trio arrived, watching Arven's demonstration with... more than mild concern. "Right. That's a thing. That's wonderful." She shook her head as she listened to Arven go on about his Mabostiff, looking to her Ursaluna at mentions of the sniffing the Herba out. "Hm. Dega, you think you could maybe get a sniff of it from my backpack? I had the previous one in there..." Aile would slide off her backpack and let Dega sniff around in there, who then sniffed around the area before shaking her head and sitting down. "Well, it was worth a shot, especially considering earlier." She shrugged and took a seat next to the bear, when she noticed something. Or rather, the lack of something. She had some vague awareness of the area and ground chi around them, and while she didn't really pay it any attention most of the time now, having gotten used to it by now, there was noticeable lack of ground chi at the peak. "Huh..." The channeller closed her eyes and thought back to the first Herba. Was that area similar? Her attention had been on that Nincada that decided to finally come out of her staff, so she wasn't paying much attention to the environment, and then went to help the others. Maybe it might have been? Either way, she doubted that anyone else was going to have any ideas, and that was suspicious enough. "So... If it helps, I can't sense any sort of ground chi up at the peak. So, we're probably going to need to play deadly dodgeball." Aile would pat Dega while she stood up, prompting her bear to stand up as well. "Dega, you're going to have to go as fast as you would if you were chasing a scent. And Rancor?" She looked to the Gible still sitting on Dega's back, looking intently at the birds in the sky. "Might need you to fire off some attacks. Feel like being a turret?"

"Gib!" The bright blue sand dragon looked determined, a giant grin on his face. With a chuckle, Aile would climb onto Dagobah's back once again, patting her while waiting for others to be ready.
