Stoney Tower Hold was a wonderful sight to see, but Kat'eel was already focusing on the next set of coordinates. Biralath's steady confidence kept him feeling good and much sooner than their first time around this route he was ready to go. They jumped Between, withstood the cold and darkness and silence, and emerged successfully above Green Plains Cothold.

Now there was one jump left. This was where he'd flubbed it on their second route and spent a little too long Between, enough to scare them. He took a deep breath as he started to focus back on Western, on home.

With more experience under their belt, Nonami had almost felt a sense of... certainty as the lessons approached once more. After devoting more time to try and hammer down some of their weaker points, and making certain to get a better night sleep beforehand, they almost felt a bit better in approaching the solo journey once more.

Nonami kissed the gentle nose of their dragon, smiling at Negoncath and how big the little green that had needed them so badly on the hatching sands had grown before hauling themself into riding straps. The first destination, Waters Edge Cothold, was firmly called to mind, as Nonami did a few deep breaths as they were taught by their momma. Deep breaths as Negoncath rose into the air on powerful strokes, seeing Western Weyr from a more aerial view before Nonami gave the gentle nudge to their destination...

Quote:
4: Success and Failure!

Everyone else? You're good to go!

1 - 2 - 3 ....
Taking a grateful breath of air, Nonami blinked and peered about the cothold beneath them. The smile on their face is small, yet the success has them feeling a touch lighter.

With one under their belt, Negoncath sent gentle waves of affection and pride to Hers. Nonami was capable of great things, this she knew. Doing their best every day could be possible when their bruised confidence wasn't holding them back.

'Oasis Hold... Ready, my love?'

Absolutely, darling.

Quote:
2: Success and Failure!

Everyone else? You're good to go!

The sounds and sights of the Hold winked into view, and Negoncath hovered so they could admire Oasis Hold before turning back to the task at hand. Two down.

Nonami took a grounding breath, hand absently patting along Negoncath's spine that they could reach. Stay calm, don't let their anxieties creep up their spine. They were weyrlings, future dragonriders of Western Weyr. Clutchfuls before them had done this, and classes after theirs would as well. Negoncath was born for this, for fighting thread. Ezyzu had been right, they just had to stay calm.

What's next, my sweetest darling?

'Stoney Tower Hold.' With a gentle smile, they nudged their green lovingly off to their next destination...

Quote:
4: Success and Failure!

Everyone else? You're good to go!

Their third destination appeared below them, as Negoncath fought to hover for a moment, peering at the hold below them. Yet the success rang across their bond, trying to not get too into their heads over the matter.

With just a few jumps left, the thought to stay a moment more, take a pause to admire Stoney Tower had been tempting. Yet their streak had been strong thus far.

So, with their fourth jump in mind -- Green Plains Cothold -- Nonami took a slow deep breath. In, out, in -- and nudged Negoncath onward...

Quote:
4: Success and Failure!

Everyone else? You're good to go!

And with a happy start, their fourth destination was before them. Safely arrived, Nonami allowed themself to grin, leaning forward to press their forehead against Negoncath's neck. One more jump!

Negoncath can't help the bugle as she burst out into the air over Western Weyr, as Nonami absolutely beamed at their success.

2. Redoubt Hold
3. Paradise Falls Hold
4. Sand's End Hold (Minor Hold beholden to Western Hold)
5. Western Weyr

It was time to go farther now. To places that were perhaps less precious and much less known - and as such had been drilled in with a little more emphasis. Aryale was a little nervous. We will be fine. Yaguareth assured, bouying the little floater in Hers' heart. Just enough to get them going.

Aryale could do the rest. Yaguareth had absolute belief.

Okay. Courtesan Hall then! Aryale reminded, just so they both knew where it was she was supposed to be picturing.

Quote:
Success! You manage to make the leap without any trouble! Good job! Breathe easy!

Yaguareth blinked away without any hesitation, knowing in her every fiber that Aryale was true. The satisfaction of the view below them as they popped above the Hall was like a drug, sending elation through her veins. Success! Now they just had to go through all of their steps and make it home!

But Aryale's slight nerves had been appeased for now.

Another not-so-familiar place. Aryale did her best to picture it. The way the land formed around the Hold and the arrangement of the buildings when they were looking down at them.

Yes. This was the view she wanted.

3, 2, 1, Yaguareth counted down before jumping. Someday, perhaps, the cold wouldn't sting so badly. But it made the warmth of real air so much nicer when they emerged again. All those nice little buildings. The landforms.

Aryale was happy to see them.

Distraction/Intensity: 3
Exhaustion/Alertness: 4 -1!

5. Western Weyr

Here we go- Aryale may have had growing confidence, but she still took her time to picture the next stop. There had been many things pointed out to the class on these trips, and she did her best to remember them all...and make sure they weren't somewhere else entirely.

Quote:
Success & Failure! If this is your first roll and you have a 1 in any of the levels, you fail. Whatever the reason, you find yourself in a world of trouble, as the black void of Between embraces its newest victim... But maybe you felt a need to get those coordinates checked before you took the leap.

If this is your second or third roll, if your Exhaustion Level of 3 or higher is going to be reduced by one for the rest of your rolls. i.e. If you had them down as a 5, they are now feeling like a 4. All future rolls will be based on this number until you finish the game. If you had them as a 4, they are now down to a 3, and if you had them as a 3 they are now down to a 2. You are feeling mentally exhausted!

If this is your fourth or fifth roll, and you happen to have a Distraction/Intensity level of 5, your certainty of the coordinates winds up being your downfall. You didn't account for the placement of the sun and you wind up lost Between. If you have an exhaustion level of 1 or 2, you botch your coordinates due to the drain. If your Memorization/Visualization skills are 3 or less, you botch remembering the exact placement and wind up lost--unless you check your coordinates.

Everyone else succeeds!

It was less clean of a jump than Aryale would have liked. Things were closer than she would have liked and Yaguareth nearly reeled as they gained air again, frazzling the young woman who was scrambling to get her head about her.

They would need a minute to ground themselves in place, but...

We are alive and where we aimed for. Take a moment. Breathe. Yaguareth's love was nice to focus on while Aryale took the minute to recoup herself. Yes. This....was the nicest hiccup they could have had.

Yaguareth and Aryale took their time to get their heads about themselves again. I need to figure out what happened later. If I think about it now we won't get home. Aryale promised, though she felt no impatience from Yaguareth. Only the ever constant love and understanding.

Aryale's heart could have burst open again.

Instead, she pictured the next stop - Sand's End. She was extra careful with the spacing and where she wanted to go.

Then it was time to jump.

You're certain you know where home is? Yaguareth's voice had a tease to it, and Aryale nearly laughed. I hope so! But we'll picture it carefully so we get there and not somewhere else!

Another jump back to the place they would always return to. Aryale knew home by heart, but not from this view. It was something that had been opened up by Yaguareth, and she took a moment on dragonback to look down on it and take it in.

Then, it was time to land and wait for the rest.
