Dumuzi’s lips pulled into a soft smile as he finished the last of his first drawing and moved onto his next sketch. As he filled in the lines and shaded in the sketch work, he couldn’t help but feel like he was partially reliving the moment again, it was something that he had always treasured about his drawing and maybe –someday- he would share his drawing with someone and let them feel how he did when he first did those initial sketches. Maybe when that day came, he could find someone who was accepting of who he was and they could have something to share with him as well. Maybe they would be photographs, maybe drawings like him… maybe just stories that they could tell each other whenever they had a moment. That would be nice, he had never really had a connection with someone else like that –spare maybe his mom- he supposed that it was more his fault then anything when he found himself on the fringe of the other kids when he was in school. Then again, maybe it was because of the mask that he wore that was the problem. It could have been that everyone could sense that mask that he wore and it turned them off of getting close to him, instead they preferred to keep relationships as artificial as the person that he made himself out to be. Society and it’s workings were complicated and cruel sometimes. It sometimes seemed like the more you tried to fit in, the more you stood out as someone who couldn’t settle in because of how hard they tried. But… he was in a place that nobody knew him, he was lost in a large city where half the people didn’t gender him and the other half mistook him for a girl anyway. But… he did know someone, he knew Theo at least enough to assume that he would be judgemental or perhaps let slip who he really was and that could risk anything. He didn’t see Theo as someone who was purposefully nasty or cruel, but he did seem a little clumsy with his words at times. He heaved a light sigh, he would have to catch up to him sometime and maybe try and smooth things over with him. It was kind of an awkward and bitter note they left on, and he didn’t need any enemies here in this new place.

Softly closing his notebook, Dumuzi looked over at his two sleeping pokemon and got things packed up quietly. When he was finished he gently shook his girls and they slowly stirred and woke up. He looked down with that same smile on his face. ”Are you girls ready to get back to searching? We have a bit to do yet, we need to try and get to the point where we can face our first gym leader.” The pair of pokemon sat up, Titania a little slower to wake up than Vivienne was, the latter was finishing getting the sleeps out of her eyes but otherwise looked like she was ready to go and finished what they started earlier. Vivienne shook her head and came up to Dumuzi to hug and nuzzle his leg. He couldn’t help but chuckle and kneel down to give Vivienne a good pet while Titania wobbled to her feet and came over to Dumuzi. He recalled both of the pokemon into the pokeballs, he supposed that he really didn’t need to wake up Titania, but it was probably for the best if he did so. If he didn’t and he needed her in battle then it could possibly result in her getting seriously hurt because she was still sleeping in the pokeball, and it was better safe than sorry. Dumuzi slung his bag back over his shoulder and started towards the field again, the day was still rather young and it was a glorious one at that. It had been a good day to raise pokemon and it still felt that way. He still had some time left in the day, and if need be he could always search into the night as well.

Dumuzi found himself humming a bit of tune as he walked through the tall grass and the flower fields in search of the next pokemon that would help him get stronger. Things started to toil and bubble in his mind, making it twist and turn in some very serious directions regarding what he was thinking about previously when it came to the gender play that he often did inside his own head. He wasn’t really sure what it meant –or if it meant anything at all- all that he knew was that he had these daydreams for years now and he wasn’t sure if this was normal for boys or not. He had no idea what it was to be a guy, he mimicked the best he could and did everything he could to blend in with them, but really he was just faking it. He couldn’t really say that he was a girl either as he had never really… been one? At least he wasn’t physically a girl or socially one as far as he knew. It almost made him wonder why he started this journey and where it was going to lead him, he wondered what sort of things awaited him as he climbed the ladder and caught up to his brother. He wondered if he could finally give his parents something to be proud of him for. He just… wondered about everything that his fickle mind landed on at this point in time. He hoped that he was going to be able to achieve everything that he set out to do and he hoped that he didn’t just set himself up for some major failures now that he was on his journey. After all, if he failed doing what he set out to do, how would he face his family ever again?

Dumuzi’s thoughts were interrupted by a rustling in the bushes, he looked over and saw a familiar looking pokemon pop out of the bushes. Welp, it was show time, he supposed. He grabbed Vivienne’s pokeball off of his belt and released his blue round pokemon to face down the rather odd looking pokemon that had made itself known. He gave a pleased look to Vivienne, knowing that she was going to be more than capable of handling herself even though their opponent was strong. ”Alright Viv, let’s do this!”

Let’s start off with a Water Gun! Get ‘em!” Dumuzi watched as Vivienne’s tail glowed a soft blue before a torrent of water pushed past Vivienne’s lips in a steady stream towards the oppositing pokemon. [Vivienne used Water Gun. Dunsparce took 40 points of damage]
Dunsparce looked rather displeased by getting smacked hard with a jet of water, and it looked as though it was more than willing to retaliate with some sort of attack. It curled into a ball and gathered some momentum before tearing towards Vivienne. [Dunsparce used Roll out. Vivienne took 10 points of damage]

”Okay Viv, we’ll finished this off, one more Water gun and it should be over.” Vivienne waited for the opportune time before she attack, letting the rolling pokemon come closer to her where she was going to get a better shot at it and not allow it a chance to dodge. When she found her opening she unleashed her soaking payload, causing the Dunsparce to roll to an unconscious stop right at her feet.
[Vivienne used Bubble. Dunsparce took 40 damage. Dunsparce Fainted! 5 exp earned!]
Dumuzi gave his little blue pokemon the thumbs up, that was a good battle and he was proud of how far she was coming in such a short period of time. He was starting to feel confident that he was going to be able to take on the gym leader sooner rather than later, and when it came to moving down the path of a champion, that was a good thing.

As Cheria left town and headed for Lumiose, her holo caster went off again. It was from Marx, and it was on time this time. Maybe it was just a blip? Huh. "I'm just now leaving Santalune City. Why was he getting so nervous? Was it the thought of battling a Gym leader or was it the idea of actually having his pokemon face someone else’s pokemon for a change? He had only ever battled wild pokemon before, and he was more or less okay with that, but there was some level of intimidation about having to go up against someone else pokemon in a fight. Or… was it just the idea of losing to this gym leader that he was so nervous and worried about? It was hard to say one way or another. Though the more likely scenario was that he was nervous and anxious about both of these possibilities, for the first time he was starting to wonder if he had the talent to pull this off. His brother certainly had a talent with pokemon, it was almost and instinct for him to sense the strength and potential of a pokemon that he wanted and he could probably make a strong and capable team with little thought and effort. Dumuzi… really didn’t have that sort of talent and honestly he really didn’t care about things like strength and abilities, he would usually just go with the pokemon that he liked and then went from there. But battling them was something that Dumuzi honestly had mixed feelings about. When he first set off on his journey he thought that he could harden himself to the idea of it, seeing as it was a necessary evil, but now he wasn’t so sure. For the most part he was okay with battling wild pokemon but the thought of hurting someone else’s pokemon was something that Dumuzi wasn’t sure he had the heart to do. He knew that if he was going to catch up and get out of his brothers shadow though, he was going to have to do this, no matter how uncomfortable it made him feel.

Dumuzi was perched on the ground, helping Erika get the weeds out of her little garden paradise. It has been a rough day at school and Dumuzi was finding solace in helping the local gym leader with her gym, even if he didn’t have a pokemon with him there was still stuff that he could do. All around various plant pokemon were moving around freely and interacting with each other. The attractive young gym leader had been watering her plant when she notice a distraught looking regular pulling weeds on her behalf, quietly existing among the other gossiping girls that were all around. Erika smiled gently and placed her things down so that she could walk over to the young boy she had seen so often here and knelt beside her, moving the sleeves of her kimono out of the way so that she could help the young boy with his task. ”You’ve been very quiet today, are you alright?” She looked over at him from the corner of her eyes while she waited for the valve to break and the pressure to be released. She had come to accept this young boy’s gentle soul a while ago and ever sense she had seen more and more of him. She had met the rest of his family as they came to pick him up day after day and she picked up on the distance and rivalry between the siblings, so she could guess what was going on with Dumuzi. When you had a talented sibling you didn’t always get a good boost to your self-esteem and no amount of love and attention from your parents could always wash away that feeling. ”Does it have something to do with your brother?” She tried again, once more looking at Dumuzi through the corner of her eye and this time noting the souring expression on his face. She smiled a bit, closing her eyes as she did so. ”Your older brother is your older brother, and you are you, Dumuzi. Don’t feel that you always have to be like him to find that thing that makes you happy. If you always try and be your brother you’ll never be the beautiful you that you were meant to be.”
Dumuzi didn’t know what stirred the memory but he questioned things a little more now. He thought that he understood what Erika had said to him all those years ago, but maybe he wasn’t so sure anymore. Dumuzi was the kind of person who believed that nothing in your life was meaningless and that everything moved you towards a grand destiny that you were meant to have. How you got there and when was irrelevant, what mattered was that you did. Maybe Erika had told him something that he needed to learn, or perhaps he was just so stressed out about things that he was mentally looking for an excuse to just give up or something. He didn’t know for sure, but he pushed onwards anyway, he had certainly burn enough bridges at the moment to prevent him from going back, at least right now.

Dumuzi was lost in his own thoughts for a while before a Ralts appeared in the bushes ahead of him. He smiled softly as he was reminded of Titania, but right now it wasn’t the time for sentiments. An eerie spectral glow entered the eyes of Ralts as it retaliated against the offending pokemon, Dumuzi couldn’t help but wince as he felt the concussive blast hit Vivienne and knock her for some serious damage. [Ralts used Confusion- Vivienne took 50 damage]

Dumuzi looked down at trail of bubbles that the Ralts had trailed away when it was defeated, was this all that there was to raising pokemon? Just battling and toughening up your pokemon that way? He looked down at Vivienne who was looking up at him with a curious look on her face, she seemed like she was okay though he was still a little worried about that confusion attack that she had endured may have done something that he couldn’t heal with the potion, the wisest idea would have been to take her to the pokemon center. What was wiser course of action? As much as he wanted to keep going, he knew that Vivienne’s well-being was far more important than him getting her stronger for the sake of getting her stronger. He would make his way to the center and after he healed his pokemon he would go and challenge the gym. Hopefully Vivienne was good enough to take care of any pokemon that would come across their path, he was pretty confident that she could, but that last encounter had him worried for her. ”Come on Viv, let’s go back to the city and get you healed up. Then… shall we go and take the gym on?” Vivienne’s face seemed lit up a bit, she seemed to want to do what she could to please her human and friend and if he wanted to go and face the gym leader, then she would totally go with him. She trusted her human with something like this and she felt that she was ready for her next chance to shine. She didn’t know how this gym thing worked, but she would do her best regardless. With a happy cry she followed along with Dumuzi towards town.

On their way to the pokemon Center the friend took things easy and gently in order to enjoy the last little bits of the day that it had to offer. Night still may have been a while away, but the afternoon was still getting late and there was a certain stillness that was settling in the air. Dumuzi looked skywards as he walked along with Vivienne and reflected upon his pervious thoughts and what they might have been telling him. All the memories that he had experienced, all the thoughts that were going through his head, the doubts, the homesickness… he wondered what why they were bubbling to the top of his head and caused this turmoil within him. When he left, he was confident in what he was doing but now he wasn’t so sure if what he was doing was right for him. Everyone made battling look so easy and desirable, but now that he was starting to experience it for himself, he was wondering if this was for him or not. He certainly trapped himself in this strange situation, didn’t he?
Dumuzi grimaced a bit as Azurill made an appearance and Vivienne took an eager step forwards towards it to battle. When he battled it before, he had used Titania and quite frankly… this felt a little uncomfortable seeing a pre-evolution take on an evolved form of the same pokemon. It was almost like he was about to watch a big brother get beaten up by a little brother. Dumuzi was hesitant but gave the orders anyway. ”Viv… use Bubble.” Hopefully it would be a little more gentle than the water gun attack.

Dumuzi worried his lip a little bit and looked down at his feet. This almost didn’t feel right to him. Vivi looked just as eager to continue on as she had to start. The little Azurill had gotten a determined look on its face but Dumuzi could feel the worry and it twisted Dumuzi’s heart a bit. Why this all of a sudden? Why now? He had no problem up to this point. Maybe it was the pervious Ralts that he battled and now the Azurill, it was his team that he was facing right now and for some reason it kind of ate at him. He didn’t know why he didn’t feel this sooner but maybe it had something to do with the bonds that he was getting with his pokemon, or perhaps with all the reflection that he was doing and something stirred within him? He hoped this was just nerves before a match with a Gym Leader. ”Let’s finish this Viv, another bubble.”

”…” Dumuzi watched as the battle finished and then looked over at Vivienne, offering her a forced smile in congratulations. ”That was great, Viv. Let’s go to the pokemon center and get you healed up, shall we?”

Dumuzi entered the Pokemon Center and waited in line in order to give his ladies a rest, poor Titania didn’t see much action this time around, but he knew that this up and coming battle with the gym leader was going to give her a chance to shine, and hopefully Vivienne too. He honestly wasn’t sure if he was going to be ready for this or not, but he supposed that he would find out when he got there. He had to win, he had to win at all costs or everything that he had done so far would be for nothing. After an anxious few minutes of waiting he was given his pokemon back and he started towards the Gym where he would stand at the crossroads of his journey and whether or not he was going to be able to get out of his brothers shadow or if he was going to be a slave to it the rest of his life. While he walked towards the gym, his stomach started to get more and more uncomfortable with the butterflies that were starting to take up residence there. He couldn’t help it, he just felt so stressed to succeed that he was starting to get himself worked up and even on the verge of getting sick. His brother breezed through these gyms and there was no reason for him to lose this, not a single one.

Dumuzi slowed to a stop, his head bowed and shoulders slumped. Who was Dumuzi, if not his older brothers little shadow? Who was this person that he was apparently trying to be? He felt a little frustrated among other emotions that twisted and plagued him. He tried to push these thoughts aside, when he won this gym badge, it would be a first step out of his brothers shadow, and it would be the first step towards being himself. He knew it, he knew this more than he knew anything else in the world. Dumuzi picked his head up and started towards the gym again. He was eager to get this done and over with, he wanted to move on because he felt he had spent too much time here already.
~*~*~ At the Gym~*~*~ Dumuzi looked up with tired eyes at the massive structure that was before him, so this was a gym was it? He took a deep breath to settle his flip flopping stomach and opened the door to enter the building. It didn’t take him long to navigate his way down the whole and into the web that made up the floors here. Good Lord that was a long drop… He could only imagine the amount of bones from the unwary or the unbalanced laying down at the bottom of that pit. The thought made his face ashen before he decided to make his way around the web –carefully- and started to make his way slowly towards the little wooden hut that made up the location where the gym battle was going to be taking place. He really hoped that they weren’t going to battle on this webbing… he feared for the pokemon that toppled over the edge because of the excitement of battle or a well-placed blow from their opponent. Then again, him getting bounced off because of the battle didn’t exactly tickle his fancy either…

Viola was photographing her Surskit as it skittered around, a small puddle of water underneath it to allow for some added textures as it splashed and kicked up water. She was getting some incredible pictures, the light catching the droplets just perfectly as her pokemon skirted, hopped, spun, and posed through its gliding, but the pokemon suddenly came to a stop, its little antennae sticking straight in the air. At first, she wondered if perhaps there had been a change in the weather, but when she straightened up and looked around, she noticed a trainer cautiously making their way towards her, and lowered her camera-- and then lifted it back up. She couldn't help but take a picture-- they looked rather elegant, despite the precarious pathway, making their way over.
"Hi there!" she greeted as they drew close, Surskit now jittering happily by her side, "Are you here to challenge the gym?"

Dumuzi was wondering if this was really a good idea after all, maybe he should have found another way around to get to the gym leader… then again there was probably no other way other than over the fall of icky inky death! As he began to approach the woman he noticed that she was taking pictures of one of her pokemon, in fact, it was a bug type pokemon. Dumuzi distracted himself for a moment to make sure that his footing was precise enough to make the right footing before he heard the clicking of a camera, he looked up with a bit of a surprised expression as he noted that she had the camera pointed towards him. So, she didn’t just take pictures of pokemon, huh? Maybe he should charge her a modeling fee for that little snap shot? When Dumuzi finally got to her, he straightened himself up after a rather elegant dismount of the webbing. He looked up at the woman to answer her. ” Yes, please. I’m Dumuzi Blackwood and I would like to challenge the gym leader, if they are available.” Hmm… knowing his luck the leader was probably out getting wined and dined or something. If that was the case he was damn well camping out here until they got back, there was no way that he was going over that damn webbing again! From what Dumuzi had understood, his brother had given the gym leader here a damn good stomping when he faced her. He wasn’t sure the mannerisms of his brother and if he introduced himself properly or if the Gym leader was going to remember the last name. Hopefully not, he didn’t want to have to have a huge, tough as nails battle for his first trainer vs. Trainer battle. He expected a hard fight with the gym leader, but he didn’t expect to lose to a single, well trained pokemon or anything.

Viola smiled, her hands on her hips with her camera around her neck. "You're looking at her! It's nice to meet you, Dumuzi!" she greeted, picking up her camera in her hand, "If you don't mind, I'm going to be taking some pictures during our battle. I'll be starting with Surskit." She smiled down at the pokemon, which chirruped in response, skating forward a bit and swaying back and forth. The ground extended out from underneath the platform as she spoke, covering the webbing until a stage was formed, and Viola stepped back, stopping once she was on her side of the stage. "Are you ready? I won't be going easy on you," she promised.
